RE: Pulling a 2008 Saturn Vue behind class C

Have towed a Vue for six years. Great vehicle but I would never tow without a supplemental braking system. That's a fair amount of extra weight pushing you and you will feel a significant difference with a toad braking system. Just be sure your hitch is properly rated for your weight and go enjoy!! Remember that you should NOT back up when the car is connected.

RE: 2006 Vue - which fuse to pull to tow?

Further reading online and in the manual tells me that yes, I need to pull that 30amp fuse. Think I will get a switch added to avoid that under the hood hassle every time. THANKS all for your help!

RE: 2006 Vue - which fuse to pull to tow?

We towed and '04 and all we pulled was one 10amp fuse inside that controlled door alarms and dash display. Hoping for the same. I know - I need to read the manual.
Still hoping someone with an 06 Vue can help me out. I am hoping to 30 AMP fuse is not the one required. Thanks all for your help with this.

RE: Water Filter & Surge Protector Needed at Topsail RV Park??

I uses both a water regulator and a surge protector. My surge protector has saveed me at least once for absolute certain and possibly twice more. The water pressure at some parks can be VERY high and for a few dollars you can easily protect yourself.
I have chosen to use both so I can rest easy. I am in the camp of spending some $$ to protect an electronic loaded MH. Only you can decide your risk comfort level. Travel safe.

RE: Now that I have 440ah power how do I receive cable

We have a similar solar set up and use the Winegard Traveler dish. I turn on the inverter (we only have a 600 watt!) and off we go. The first surprise, when a newbie to solar, was how much the inverter draws while on. I have a newer 35" LED TV that draws little power. Our winter in AZ now have evenings of TV and daytimes of recharging. Works very well. We have 2 Cpaps that work all night and rarely need to run the generator except on cloudy days.
We turn off the TV/satelitte receiver when not watching to conserve power. All TVs and anything else we can disable are also on power strips off and the inverter is ALWAYS turned off when not is use.
Our Winegard has worked flawlessly for three year. Good luck!!

RE: How much longer is the drive in an RV?

Driving/riding tolerance is so variable. I am now a more "mature" driver and 300-350 miles is a long day for me. 250 miles for us is a good day as we like to relax a bit and take a walk after arrival. Bonus, I am not so fatigued. I used to drive 400+ miles a day but since I am retired, I am not in such a hurry! I know other people do tons more miles per day. 500-600 miles was never something I did.
RVs go slower up hills, wind will effect you more and you have to travel at truck speed limits in some states. Terrain and traffic can have a bearing on your average speed. You gain some time by not having to find a restaurant or restroom but can make use of a quick break at a rest stop along the way.
Driving an RV can be more tiring than driving your car. The last thing you want to do is to drive too tired. If your family tolerates long days in a car, then they can likely do the RV for more miles also. Nothing can ruin a family trip faster than arriving totally exhausted and cranky at your destination! Good luck with your trip - travel safe!!

RE: Cheaper - Propane or Electricity?

If you have and enclosed under belly, you must run the furnace to get that warm air down around those pipes and tanks. We set furnace very low around 45-50 degrees and hunker down under extra blankets at night. Good luck!

Using a Terrain or Equinox?

Looking to replace or beloved Saturn Vue as she is simply too tired and worn out. Retirement time is here for her.
Anyone using a Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain? Curious as to any issues, real life mileage you get and would you do it again?? Will add a Blue Ox base plate and a supplemental braking system, probably an SMI again.
Thanks for any user input.

Avoiding the CA/OR Siskyou Mountains snow on I5

Traveling with Canadian friends who MUST head home shortly. They are in two RVs - a 30' trailer and a 34'MH. The weather for the Siskyous has intermittent snow forecast for their travel window.
Failing to hit a clear window - what is their best option to go over to the coast, up 101 for a ways and then back to I-5 in Oregon beyond the Siskyous?? Currently in Palm Springs, CA. Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Oregon Coast Rd to Washington State

Yes, it is a great trip! Doing from Seattle south puts the pullouts and views on the right side. You can do it and see things heading north but all ocean view pullouts of on the ocean side.
I strongly recommend reservations as it is high season then. All state parks will be full as will many private parks. Also, travel will be slow - some curvy but very doable stretches with you rig. Mostly an issue of lots of traffic and some hilles but who is in a hurry through such pretty country. The coast highway is well kept and not an issue for any RV. One of our favorite trips!! Enjoy
FYI - Seattle is not an RV friendly town. Do NOT take your RV into the downtown area which is built on high hills and has extremely congested traffic areas. RV parks are non-existent in town, so if needing a place to park, it will be outside of Seattle.

I have a set of short instructional videos and have some people that cannot view them - some Vista and some MAC users. Is there a good file converter anyone can recommend to allow these folks to view the files?? Got quite a few choices when I searched and looking for something you have used with success. THANK YOU in advance.

RE: geocaching

YES!! And we have discovered that at many interstate rest stops there are geocaches. Makes a great break and gets us out and walking before heading down the road. Now have caches in 22 states and counting. My new Iphone app makes this SO much easier. Happy caching.

RE: Thumbs up to Coach Net

We broke down near Hyder Alaska and had to be flat bed "towed" to Prince Rupert. CN arrived as promised and took GREAT care of us. I am a CN fan and will continue to be a member for years to come. The estimated $2200 rescue from near Hyder cost me zero and was covered with my annual dues. I figure I can be a member for almost 15 years and still be $$ ahead.
