RE: Biggest New 5er behind my '06 Dodge 2500?

I've been coast to coast with no problem towing my 40' 4 slide 5er with my 2500.Just because you are doing it does not make it right!
Look at the following post from Ricochet (posted 5/9/12).
I'd say you are firmly in the #3 category.
"Having said that you are always going to have 3 types of folks towing.
1 is the GVWR guys who use the safety ratings set forth by the manufacture. I'm one of them.
2 is the RAWR guys who stay under the rear axle ratings which is most likely the same as your tire ratings. Logic is its legal in most states.
3 is the guys who don't believe in ratings period and would tow a Grand Teton with whatever they happened to own.
Just me but 3k pin is where I draw the line between the SRW and DRW trucks. Although the last couple of years the SRW 35 series trucks have made some big gains in payloads due to the bigger wheels and tires.
Good luck with your decision. Phffffft!!!!

RE: Camping Memberships - how many do you have?

We have thousand trails and as fulltimers it works great we also use military bases.Between the two we are pretty much covered.

RE: picking up a 2003 Sandpiper 27RLSS tomorrow

Good for you,you gotta be carefull. The laredo is still in that age range where lippert had the bad axles.Just be sure to check for even tire wear.I believe the laredo has electric slides which I prefer just make sure they run smooth.Good luck

RE: Spring Hanger question

Yes you can use one or both holes for desired hight. While you have the bolts out replace the plastic bushings with wet bolts and bronze bushings. They are not expensive.

RE: Satellite equipment

We have Dish and are planning to full time in June. When I spoke to Dish, they gave me a price of $400 for the equipment. Do I understand correctly that the dish and tripod can be obtained with no cost?Yes, if you agree to a 2 year contract.I did 2 years ago and they installed all the equipment including the reciever in my RV for free.We have been happy with the service.

RE: picking up a 2003 Sandpiper 27RLSS tomorrow

My previous 5er was a 2004 sandpiper platinum (that's the grey color)Looked just like yours. It really is a good finish that open range is now copying.Just take a good look at the tires,if they are wearing out at the edges you have the improperly arched axles.I had this problem and had to replace the axles. Also had leaks in the hydraulic slide rams and replaced those.Otherwise it was a nice 5er.

RE: Insurance

I called geico, progressive and good sam. Geico wanted 600 per 6 months for the rv and 3k for my 2 cars. I pay 3k through NJ manufacturers for 1 year. Good sam wanted 400 for 1 year on the rv.
Geico was a joke for me. Seriously? 3k for 6 months? Insane.
Not sure what that was all about,WOW!! I got a quote from usaa since I am military to see if I could do better than gieco but thier quote was almost $1300 which was more than double my gieco.Guess i'll stay put.

RE: How did you start fulltiming?

We got our rig in 07 just before putting the house up in 08.Turns out that was very bad timing as the market crashed and we had no lookers much less offers. So we waited till 2010 and bit the bullit and lowered the price to sell.Getting rid of things was the hardest so do it early as possible. We ended up with a storage unit which I hate but the wife insists. It is a small one so $30 a month will not kill us.Been fulltime over 2 years now and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

RE: belly pan

I was recently under my buddies cardinal and his belly pan was a corrogated metal. It looks a lot like tin roofing.Check that out as an alternative. If I ever have to pull my plastic belly pan I will replace with the Tin roofing.
