RE: Towing

Back when I towed a Sundance on a dolly I made a wooden bar with the suction cups and bracket from an old roof top carrier and attached the lights to that. I used a couple of straps to secure it to the trunk lid.

RE: I Don't Think I Am Thick...

If you ask about coffee makers and blow dryers you have to keep in mind that any applicance that has HEAT created as one of it's main purposes is going to be a very heavy draw on the power. Those are the ones that will pull the battery down very fast. We do not have an inverter on our coach but can run the generator any time we need 110V. On most coaches the generator doesn't get enoigh use anyhow and they don't take much gas to run.

RE: Beware in keys

Our son, who live with us, has a storage unit and gets no bill. It is just always due on the first of the month. A landlord doesn't send out a bill each month. Tenants just normally expect to pay to stay. I would also bet he can't go back to that park.

RE: If I wanted a project, I'd be tempted

According to the Bluebird forum it is a scam. He wants money before you can even see it. My daughter & SIL checked it out because he is always looking for a project. His projects always turn out terrific. He is precise on his work. Their neighbor got them started in an old Bird.

RE: Ford vs Chevy

We own a Ford (Triple E motorhome), the fuel use we are getting is 1 liter for every 5 km.
(We'r in Canada: Metric) Not sure how that converts to miles/gallons.
That figures to 11.78 per US gallon. What do you drive to get that mileage.

RE: 25 L / 100 KM is this about average ?

If you can do that repeatedly you are doing great. Between Holland, MI and London, Ontario I will usually get much better mileage than any other time. I get lower on the return every time also.

RE: Marker light problems

$550 for 3 hr. labor is pretty stiff. That figures out to $183 per hr. Did you get something else for that price?

RE: Ford vs Chevy

Chevy, still branded as Workhorse? I don't know, but Ford has shown a long term commitmnet to building RV chassis. GM not so much. They're out there, but I don't know what the "dealer" support is for the GM-based chassis.
Chevy is part of GM and Workhorse is a totally seperate company. Workhorse was bought out by Navistar. Around 2000 Workhorse bought out the RV chassis from GM and just continued to use the GM motors until GM quit making the 8.1L V8.

RE: Does Durabond replace caulking?

Eternabond does not look bad when properly applied. I used it around all of the roof seams where they met the walls on my '96 Pace Arrow and it was very visible from the ground. It was a nice white 4" strip all around the MH and looked good. I also never had a leak.

RE: Financing

We are a little older than you but in my Workhorse chassis there is not much of a doghouse over the motor. Our biggest problem is the 6 steps up from ground level. We are thinking of selling it because of the difficulty of getting up that high. You might consider that also.

Ours is now almost 9 years old and still looks like new. Inside storage hasn't hurt either.

RE: GPS warning

If the GPS told you the fastest way or shortest way to get ti your point of destination is crossing a lake (obviously without a bridge) would you do it??
You have to apply a little common sense, and paper maps, when using a GPS...
When I got my Garmin 265WT I tried it and set it for Holland State Park. There are 2 cgs at the park. The GPS wanted me to go in the back road that the garbage trucks use to get to the dumpsters for the one CG. As I was sitting there watching the sunset on Lake Michigan the GPS said I should go another 200 yards West and then turn right. I don't swim and my car doesn't float so we skipped that one.

RE: Class A diesel pusher chassis....what's best

Each chassis maker also makes different versions. You can spend way too much time worrying about something like that. Get the floorplan you like and enjoy.

RE: No hot water

The electric heating element is not on all water heaters. That was usually an option on some and mostly in later years.

RE: Hello and need some advice

My daughter & SIL have 2 of the English Mastiffs. They love to go camping. The biggest danger from them is getting drowned in the constant drool. They had bunks in the TT and the dogs each get a bunk. Low bunks, not high ones.

RE: What are the best shocks to use

Shocks have more to do with the handling after a bump. The shock absorber controls the up and down motion after the bump. The Ford chassis has always been a little stiffer than the P30 so you could be in worse shape. What have you done to the air bags in the front coil springs? They should be inflated to a certain level based on the GVW of the chassis. Some air bags on the rear could also help the ride a little bit. It is still a truck and will ride a little rougher than your car. I had a '96 Pace Arrow on the P30 and I had to keep 95psi in the front air bags for the best ride.

RE: Vaccums

Consumer Reports 'never lie.' They buy it, they test it and they say what they've found.
Period.
fae
They sure let their opinions enter in though. I read a rating on a Rich TLS401 camera several years back and they said it had a horrible viewfinder. I owned one because of the versatility of the viewfinder and they never read the manual. They also never saw a foreign car they didn't like or an American car they liked. Just based on opinions.

RE: Dinette Invention

Talking about seat belts, What about those many thousands of children transported by school buses every day around our nation? Are they belted in? If so, very few and far between have this option. Seat belts do save lives, we just have to use common knowledge when applying this practice. Thus any attempt to save additional lives is noteworthy.
School buses are totally built different than a MH or car. That steel frame between each window goes completely around the entire bus from the frame on one side to the other. You effectively have that many roll bars on a bus. The seats are now higher than ever to prevent bouncing around. Bus seats are 39" wide and are to seat 3 students. Each student gets 13". There is no room for belts or buckles. Unless you have Kindergarten they are packed in like sardines. School buses that have seat belts are typically used for special needs students. I do not want belts on a normal bus because the buckles get used as weapons.
50 years driving a school bus. I remember red, white & blue school buses.

RE: 93 safari continental friend want to buy

Most 40' DPs don't have a tag axle. The tag usually begins around 42'. A '93 coach would most likely not have a slide unless it was a Newmar. Newmar started them in 1990. On that old a coach condition is the determining factor for everything. Tires may need replacing and the only way I would consider something like that is if the service records available.

RE: If you dont travel with the FW tank full???

The answer to this depends on a lot of variables. If you yhave a small tank you may travel w ith it full. A large tank it may not be necessary. Where the tank is located also makes a difference. I had a '69 Layton 21' TT that had the water tank at the front and the holding tank at the very rear. My parents took it to Ontario, Canada for a couple of weeks. They stayed at family with no dump stations. My dad decided he was not going to haul water home so he dumped all of the water but the holding tank was full. With a Reese hitch that eliminated most of the sway control so on the way home they rolled the whole thing over on t he 401. There was no water to spill but there was 40 gal in theholding tank at the rear. That 40 gal got evenly distributed on the whole interior. The TT got towed to a gas station that day, they drove home in the car and the next day we went to get the stuff out of the TT. The $2. storage suddenly jumped to $10 when I showed up in a Lincoln. We left the ins. co. take care of that.
