RE: Ram oil change

On mine the change oil light started going on at 3000 miles, and the Dodge recommendation is to change it every 7500 miles. (Ya think maybe the dealer wants to change the oil more often to get some extra cash? LOL)
I reset it as shown above, and it came on after another 3000 miles. When I did get it changed, I asked the mechanic to change it, so he did....to 5000 miles! Since I do a lot of towing, sometimes in rough conditions, I usually change it around 5000 miles, so this worked out for me.

RE: newbie backing in advice

Here's some tips from a truck driver:
Backing
One piece of advice a trucker friend of mine gave me to aid in backing and keeping the rig straight:
Go slow and use your mirrors. Whichever mirror you see more of the trailer in, turn the steering wheel in that direction to straighten it out.
Like others have said, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Nobody gets it right the first time...;)

RE: Augusta,Ga traffic on this Sunday

If you really don't want to take a chance on any traffic, you could get off I-20 at Exit 6 in South Carolina and take I-520 through North Augusta and bypass the traffic completely. It's finished all the way around Augusta now and you would be approaching US 1 from the other direction. It's only about 10 minutes farther from that direction.

RE: New Orleans campgrounds

Bayou Segnette is a really nice state park across the river from New Orleans in Westwego. Reasonable cost for the area. Large, open sites (water & electric only), picnic table and grill at each site, some sites have wooden decks. Wave pool in park ($), a couple of hiking trails, and shopping close by. Dump station at the entrance (exit) to the camping area. About 15 minutes to the Algiers Ferry which lets you off at the foot of the French Quarter. Parking nearby and the ferry is free.

Good Sam Life Member logo?

I know this is probably petty in the grand scheme of things, but how about putting a Good Sam Life Member logo on the RV.Net identifying info? Good Sam Membership shows up on the user info...how hard would it be to show a little love for Life Members by adding a logo for us? :B

RE: Campground fire ring/grill

I got me one of these bad boys when the Camping World near here had it on sale for $49. Light weight, easy to clean, can use either firewood or charcoal, and stores in it's own carry bag. The picture doesn't show it, but it comes with a grill top.

You left too soon. It's been in the 80's here in Augusta for the last week and the azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom for the Masters!! :B

RE: Bear Country

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt304/BigDadDogg/Road%20Trip%202009%20-%20Part%202/DSCN0422-1.jpg
Saw this guy only about 50 yards off the road on the way in from the East Entrance to the park. I snapped the picture while slowly going down the road that was congested with Japanese tourists jockeying for position to get the best picture. I didn't hear anything on the news that night about a bear in Yellowstone having sushi for lunch, so I guess it turned out all right. LOL
BTW...there WAS a ranger there who was valiantly trying to keep the tourists away from the bear.

RE: Camping in Cleveland

X2 for Streetsboro KOA. Great facilites, easy to get to, and only about a half hour into Cleveland (depending on traffic of course.)
And it's only about 45 minutes from there to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton!!! :B

RE: Credit Card #'s hacked at gas pumps...

I had it happen to me last summer. I stopped to get fuel in northern New Jersey (a state where it's illegal to pump your own gas.) Gave the guy my Discover card to take inside and ring up the sale.
The next day I received a phone call from Discover asking me about purchases I had supposedly made online from stores in California. I have had Discover for years, and the folks there told me the purchases were flagged because they didn't match my buying profile and exceeded the amount that triggered an alert. We narrowed it down to the last valid purchase at the BP station in New Jersey. Discover voided all the other purchases, cancelled the card, and Fedex overnight delivered a new card to the campground I was staying at. Their response and customer service was fantastic.
To make a long story short, the Discover fraud department contacted me a couple of weeks later and told me that they and the local law enforcement agency were able to narrow it down and prove that the number had been copied down by the young gal who was working the register that day (they found notes of other credit card numbers, names, and the 3 digit security codes on her when she was arrested.)
Lesson learned: follow my credit card into the station and watch the person running the transaction like a hawk! LOL

RE: Bryce, Zion campgrounds

If you want to stay in one spot and don't mind driving a little bit, try Bauer's Canyon RV Park in Glendale, UT. Nice park, reasonable, FHUs, and only about an hour to Zion, Bryce, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
There's a KOA in Glendale also, but I've never stayed there.

Not many of the CG's along the lake will be open after September. Some of the State Parks might be your better option.

RE: Round Pond CG at Westpoint Military Academy

I have relatives in that area and I stay at Round Pond every time I'm there. I've never had a problem getting a site, even over the 4th of July and Labor Day weekends. Call a few days before you get there and make a reservation. The ladies in the office are great and very helpful. It's a beautiful campground and the sites are large and tucked under the trees. Tough to get a satellite signal and cell phone coverage though. The sites are water and electric only, and the dump station is kind of weirdly situated. They do have a truck that comes around twice a week and will dump your tanks. IIRC, it was $3.00 to use it. The bath house is small, but clean. The laundry is in the same building, but there's only 2 machines and they're constantly in use.
It's pretty easy to get to, but the entrance road is steep and winding. Not as bad as everyone says it is, but it can get a little hairy when you're going up and somebody else is coming down.
The PX and commissary are about 15 minutes away on West Point itself. Both are small, but pretty well stocked. Round Pond itself is out near the training areas and in the summer they are used pretty regularly. It's not uncommon to hear firing at all times of the day, but not too bad. When I was there last year the cadets were on a road march and the route took them through the campground. It sure was fun sitting there with a cold one and watching them pass by instead of being out there with them! :B
If you get a chance, take the West Point tour...it's pretty inspiring.
Have a great trip!
