RE: New Campground Host's Can Spoil The Experiance

Well OP, was your dog on or off the leash when talking to the host? I can see your post interpreted both ways because of how it is written.I didn't say I didn't break the rule, but the pup hadn't more than touched the ground at the time, and the next infraction wasn't even our dog! I'm not offended by the information, I'm offended by the attitude, and the feeling that we're being watched.
The previous hosts did a good job, and could point out an issue without making it a big deal.
What? My 10' leash isn't good enough? How about if I tie a knot in it? (it still says it's a 10' leash).
For those of you who have never broken a rule, what about quiet hours? It's open to intepretation. We all know not to run the generator or play loud music, but can we hold conversation around the fire, or do we all have to go to bed? And what if you snore?

RE: New Campground Host's Can Spoil The Experiance

OP here:
I've been camping most of my 70 years of life and never met a CG host I couldn't get along with. I do appreciate what they do, however I've never met one who would quibble over a foot of length on a leash. I didn't even know they sold 9' ones and I've been unable to find that rule. We were trying to comply with all of the rules, but when you have 20 or so people in the group for 3 days, someone is sure to step out of line sooner or later, and these folks didn't miss it. There are rangers on site for law enforcement, and I think a ticket for a leash that's 12" too long is their line of work (it's a state CG BTW).
Pass the popcorn.

New Campground Host's Can Spoil The Experiance

We've used the same campground for our 4th of July weekend family camp out every year for the past 10 years. It's off the beaten path on the Kenai peninsula in Alaska, and is rarely even 1/2 full, this year about 1/4 full. It's always been a very pleasant place to be. This year we had new host's who had apparently just read the rule book and were determined to see that we didn't break any. We were told that all dogs must be on a leash including our 10 week old Shi-Tsu (3 lbs.), and that the leash could be no longer than 9', ours is a little pink thing that I can almost hide in the palm of my hand, but it's 10' long. apparently their 60 lb. dog is an exception however, because we saw it off the leash several times.
The leash thing wasn't the only issue we had, but was the most ridiculous.
Thanks for letting me vent. I hope they read this.

RE: Need to pick up a dogbone adapter -- which one?

The photo you posted of the dog bone looks like a 20 amp to 30 amp and wouldn't do any good in a 50 amp site. You need the same type of adapter with a 50 amp male end and a 30 amp female end. I'd avoid the plug only type and stay with the Dog bone style.
I thought the same about the photo, but a closer look says it's just a bad angle in the photo.
With a 30A rig, I would carry the adapter anyway because the 30A outlet gets a lot more use and are sometimes in not very good condition. The 50A gives you a lot more surface area at the connection.

RE: Denver, I 70,,east to west

You're crossing the continental divide, to make it any easier would require a major detour. Just take it easy and stop and let it rest if needed.
We encountered an accident coming into Denver from the East, and another on the hill to the West (both on the other side of the freeway), it look us over 8 hours from the time we entered Denver to the tunnel. That's where I learned to take it out of gear when idling, we overheated while waiting.

RE: 2006 WInnebago Itasca Class C Popping 20 Amp Breaker

If I'm reading correctly, the 20A breaker feeds the AC. In normal operation, the AC cycles on and off as temp demands, giving the breaker a chance to rest between cycles. With hotter temps the rest times get shorter to the point that the breaker trips. This would indicate that when the AC is cooling, it's drawing 20+ amps. You could verify that with a clamp on ammeter.

RE: Class C Toilet Clogs

I'm guessing that you have a pyramid, and that the snake is just poking a hole in it. I would try a wand on the end of a hose with lots of water pressure. The wand can be found at any place that sell RV supplies (Walmart).

RE: newbie battery question

Just follow the white cable to see where it goes. Usually the cable is grounded within about 24" of the battery.

RE: 30 Amp power plug issues

One bad outlet can get the burning process started, and then once your plug is burnt and you plug into the next one, your plug can start the process there. It's like spreading a virus.
The 50A plug fits a lot tighter, has more surface area, and is used less. But make sure your 30A plug is in good condition or it can spread the virus to the adapter.

RE: Class A Gas.......Launching a Boat?

You'll find it easier to back with the MH than with a pickup. I like to stay in the drivers seat and let someone else handle the boat. Check the ramp out before you commit, make sure you have enough staging area to turn around and line up and go for it.
With my boat, I just need to keep the boat out of view of the mirrors to keep it straight. I do have a camera, but mostly use the mirrors.
One more thing you should be aware of is with the long rear overhang of the MH, you create a whipping action on the boat with dips and bumps and they are exaggerated on the boat. A speed bump would be a good example.

RE: installing 50 amp rv receptacle at home

I'd say get another electrician. All you want is a standard 50a, 115v outlet (hopefully you have the service capacity for it). I have only a 30 on mine but I think you need either a NEMA 10-50R or a 14-50R, depending on your plug configuration.A 50 amp RV only has one plug configuration, NEMA 14-50R. The 14-50R is a standard 4 wire 120/240 volt 50 amp outlet.

RE: leaking ac condensation

When it happened to me, it wasn't the gasket, it was that the hole in the drip pan was plugged so that the pan was running over and the fan was blowing water inside. For that, you need to take the outside cover off, and the drip pan is under the condenser (radiator). In my case, the hole in the gasket under the pan wasn't lined up with the hole in the pan. The water is supposed to run out that hole onto the roof.

RE: 50A vs 30A service

What if you look at it as available watts? (instantaneous power available)
a 30 amp single leg has 30A*120V = 3600 watts available.
A 50 amp double leg has 50A*120V*2 = 12000 watts available.
which makes the 50 amp connection capable of providing 3.3 times the power of the 30 amp.
So when you plug in that big chunk 4 conductor plug into the NEMA 14-50R you can cackle, "MUAHAHAHA! TWELVE THOUSAND WATTS!"Well said skylos! This subject always gets some wild comments.

RE: 50A vs 30A service

Last post was long and confusing to me. So, if we have a 30 amp
wired trailer and use an adapter to connect to the capsite 50amp
outlet, it's ok? Good to go? No problems? Won't the trailer cord
be the same temperature regardless of plugging into 30 or 50 amp
with an adapter assuming one uses the same appliances in the
same manner?
you're right on! The circuit is still limited to 30A by the breaker in your rig.

RE: 50A vs 30A service

50A is a 4 wire, two hot 50A each, a neutral and a ground. 30A has 3 wires, one 30A hot, a neutral and a ground.

RE: Newbie question re full hookups

The ramp for the hose is usually used for long stays at one location, not worth the effort if you'll only dump there once or twice (IMHO).

RE: What Killed my Battery?

As Bill says, the converter isn't working. When plugged into shore power you should read over 13V at the battery even if the battery isn't fully charged.

RE: Could we still do Alaska leaving Mid July??

You shouldn't have any problem with that time frame. The traffic will be lighter for your return and most of the construction will be winding down, but plenty of services.
