RE: STEER SAFE STEERING STABILIZER

We have had both a hydraulic system and a Steer Safe on prior motor homes, and when we decided to put one on this RV, it was a Steer Safe system that we installed. We were never happy with the shock absorber system(Safe-T-Plus) on our prior DP, but had been very happy with the Steer Safe, so stayed with a quality product, IMHO.

RE: Nibbles on the hook...

Sorry to hear of your troubles in trying to sell a trailer. Around here, they are selling like hotcakes on Craigslist. Our neighbor across the street sold theirs in 2 days, for their asking price and the neighbor on the next street sold hers in less than 2 weeks, again, for the asking price. A friend down the road sold a small 5th wheel the same day he put it on the list. I guess even with RVs, it's location, location, location....LOL...:B

RE: Drivers Licence

In the US you need an International Drivers License, which is just a legal interpretation of your European license. The IDL can be had at many places, including your local Embassy. You will be allowed to drive whatever you are legally allowed to drive in Scotland, nothing more and that is the reason for the IDL, so a LEO in the US will know what you can legally drive.
EDIT*****
Here is what the USA.Gov site says about driving in the US.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) translates information contained on your driver's license into 10 languages so that officials in foreign countries are able to interpret your license. An IDP supplements a valid government-issued license--it does not serve as a replacement for a license. If you are stopped by law enforcement, you will most likely be asked to produce both your IDP and your official driver's license. The United States does NOT issue International Driving Permits to foreign visitors, so you will need to obtain this document before traveling to the U.S.

RE: One reason our "system" doesn't work as it should

well I am a generation X raising generation Y kids, and let me tell you if this had been my 14 year old, his father and I would have said, "Good, you got what you deserved. we hope you learned a lesson from it." We try to teach our kids to take responsibility for their actions. I certainly hope we are NOT in the minority!I would like to think you are not in the minority, but after 25 years as a LEO and watching what is happening with today's generation, Yes you are in a very small minority. To you I say thanks, for being a caring parent, not one of the obnoxious "helicopter" parents, who won't allow the child to grow and learn, with proper guidance.

RE: Hankook tire pressure chart

I thought I had it book marked, but can't locate it. With our coach, based on a 4 corner weight, we lowered the pressure 5# when we switched from G670 to AH-12. The ride and handling is 1000X better with the new AH-12 over the G670 junk.

RE: Your Opinions/Experience with Speedco Lube & Tranny Service

.....and got the engine oil analysis. Will use them again.
This is something that I saw in their menu that interest me, especially since it's done while you're there. While you wait??? I doubt that it is the same analysis you get from a lab.The same exact report that I got from Blackstone Labs, that cost 2.5X as much and took 4 weeks.

RE: One reason our "system" doesn't work as it should

Today, some parents think their little monster can do anything to anybody and it is perfectly fine, no matter how wrong the kid was. I think the kid got what he deserved and the parents should be responsible for their monsters actions.

RE: Your opinions/Experience with Speedco Lube & Tranny Service

If you're talking about the one in Casa Grande, they are very good. Clean, efficient and professional, would be the way I would describe my experience there. I have used 2 of their locations, one in Fernley NV plus the one in Casa Grande and was very satisfied with both locations.

RE: Foul smell coming from the toilet area

It could be a dried out gasket between the toilet and the floor.
Had a similar ongoing odor problem that seemed incurable. We had the flooring replaced, which involved re and re of the toilet including of course a new floor gasket. 3000 miles later and still no smell.
When I look at the toilet I didn't see how it was mounted. Since I have more time tonight I'm going to take a good hard look at everything.
It's a ceramic toilet, do they use wax gaskets like in a home?NO, do not use a wax gasket, they use a rubber seal.

RE: 50 amp RV,how is it setup?

A)
A 50 amp power cord has all 4 conductors the same size. If the neutral opened the power would be interrupted and there would be no current flow if the neutral and ground are not bonded. If the neutral and ground are bonded in the circuit box the current flow would then be through the neutral. Please tell me where to buy 6/3 with ground, direct burial cable, that all 4 are the same size, 6 ga. I have not been able to find any where the ground is also 6 ga. I am going to install a pedestal at our new house, is why I'm looking.

RE: Foul smell coming from the toilet area

Sorry, but the holding tank is nothing more than a small septic tank. All a septic tank does is hold the waste and allow it to be digested and turned to a liquid before running out into a leach field. If a person does not dump at least weekly, then Rid-X will perform the same job and turn the solid into a liquid in your holding tank. As full timers, we dump our black tank every 2 or 3 weeks, depending on our location and I see a large difference in the lack of solids when using Rid-X and not using it. I agree, the normal RV holding tank chemicals are a total waste of money and can be very detrimental to waste treatment systems. However, Rid-X and similar products are not detrimental and can do nothing but good for both your system and waste treatment facilities, as the commercial plants use a very similar product in their treatment process.

RE: Disappointing Cummins service

Any Speedco in the US will have your Fleetguard filter, at a reasonable price. Cummins and their Coach Care, is an expensive joke, IMHO.

RE: Foul smell coming from the toilet area

Great ideas, thanks, will use the hose method when I get the vent cap off. I would prefer not to use any chemicals if possible so hopefully this all works and we can just enjoy the RV soon.Rid-X is not a chemical, but a good bacteria that digest the waste in a septic tank, which your holding tank is.

Rid X is a good idea for a potential fix but don't try to add it to the system on a regular basis. And your reason for this comment..:h

RE: R4RR Trailing Arm Failure Rate

The failure rate is approaching 100% of all trailing arms inspected by a "qualified" mechanic. I have heard of some with close to 30K miles, being inspected and found to be free of cracks and then failing within 3K miles. There were many thought to be crack free, until the mechanic used a wire brush to remove the paint and found small cracks forming that were not visible otherwise. The risk factor is just to great to say that if they haven't formed by now that I am safe. It is not if the fail, but when they fail, the results could be catastrophic. Navistar did it the right way and tested theirs, which counts big time in my book. If they are still offering the rally price on their new arms, I would save the hundreds of dollars and use them.

RE: Workamping in California

For someone that knows nothing about us, making such an elementary, ignorant, judgment statement must make you feel good.
We fly under NO radars. We faithfully pay our taxes every year, NO MATTER where we workamp, and yes, that includes California.
and after 30 days do you switch driver's licenses, vehicle registration, etc. to CA like required?
bumpyAmazing Bumby how some will listen to a "tax advisor" and believe what they say and others will go to an CA certified Tax Attorney and hear what the law and case law actually says and the possible consequences. If they "volunteer", not receive one dime of pay, they are probably OK. However if the compensation involves any pay other than site and utilities, they are liable for some consequences we did not wish to be involved with. This was from a CA Tax Attorney on my dime.

RE: Foul smell coming from the toilet area

You are not a full timer, so you have time for this to work. Next time you are not using the RV for a few weeks, fill the tanks over 3/4 full with fresh water and add 4 oz of liquid Rid-X to each tank. This is the same solid digest type bacteria used in septic systems and it will dissolve any crud setting in the tank over time. The next time out, do your flush routine and then always add 1oz of Rid-X every time you let it set for any period of time. This will clean your tank and in most cases, stop the smell also. This is a very common cure on the Monacoers forum, used by many Monaco product owners.

RE: electric toilet in HR endeavor fitting burst

Ours didn't burst, but did start leaking in the 1st year. We could not find a replacement at any RV store in San Antonio, so I went to HD and they had one for high pressure irrigation system that worked perfect. Been there for 4 years now, without a drop of water showing. I no longer shop RV parts stores for plumbing parts of any kind, HD or Lowe's always has what I need.
