RE: 3G vs 4G...AT&T

We only get AT&T's E here. I'd love to see a single G.
I also would like to see some Gs. Quartzite is 2G and also is most of the area I'm in in New Mexico. It would seem AT&T doesn't really care that much about out lying areas.

I have a black lab/newfie mix that is shedding right now. If you decide not to go with the sheep skin, I can send you enough hair to build another dog.:B

RE: Solar for RV's and home Solar systems.

No, there is not really any big difference between RV solar and off the grid residential solar, other than size of the system. They both require the same equipment and setup. Here is a link to RV Solar Electric and IMO, Doug has about the most informative website for a novice to look at and learn from. He also has about the best prices for solar in the west and his installer D & R Family RV Service in Glendale, is the best I have ever seen work.
I agree. I've had one of their systems for over 2 years. I could not be more pleased. D&Rs Service and installation were completely satisfactory.

RE: Should I buy a Honda EU2000I or a Yamaha EF2000IS?

For me, service and parts made the difference. I own both Honda and Yamaha generators. I use the Hondas when I'm on the road.

RE: RV off the grid Ideas

I boondock 24/365. My original setup includes a 2000 watt inverter with the 100 amp charger. I quickly found that one Honda 2000 will not charge at 100 amps. It will only cover 60-70 amps depending if anything else is running. I paired the Honda generators primarily to run the a/c but quickly discovered they would charge at the full rate. There are some restrictions. You can't run the a/c and the micro at the same time.
My inverter is a modified sine wave. It messes with the micro. If I had to do it over, I would spring for the full sine wave. Also, the big inverter pulls power by just being turned on. I rewired some outlets to run off a 400 watt inverter just for the TV and computer. That alone cut my daily consumption by 30 amps.
I am solar powered and haven't had a generator running since around the middle of Feb.

Well, I know this is sort of an old topic but I've lost 2 shurflo 5.7 pumps in less than 48 hours..
Has anyone found another pump that I can use for replacement?

RE: Budget charge controller advice for AGM batteries

Hi,
Instead of worrying about the price look for a controller that can treat the AGM batteries "right".
So find out what the maker of the AGM batteries wants for a charging voltage--and find a controller that allows that to be chosen.
THAT is the correct answer!

RE: Install home dump station?

Anybody ever installed a place to dump the trailer tanks at home? We've got a septic tank, and looking at it it just doesn't seem like it would be all that complicated to run a pipe at a downward angle from near the driveway to the tank so I could empty the trailer tanks at home. We camp without full hookup a lot and generally not too far from home, having the option to come home and dump rather than wait in line at the dump station is appealing. Also because I'd like to use the camper as kind of a guest house this summer, and a working bathroom would be a big benefit.
Anybody done this who can point me in the right direction?
You can put a "clean out" anywhere you want. If it happens to be near the drive way and happens to be large enough to handle an RV dump, so be it. I wouldn't mention it to anyone. Just do it.
I know it's worked fine for me.

RE: Internet Set Up for Full Timers Who Work on the Web

It depends on where you are going to be. If you are going into the boondocks, but still need to work, you probably need a sattelite connection like Hughes Net. If you will most likely be near good cell phone connections a 3G/4G hotspot from Verizon or ATT would be sufficient.
The advantage of building a solution around the hotspot is that when you can find it, free wi-fi would save you the data usage on your wireless plan.
I agree, being a fulltimer that spends a lot of time around small towns and out in the brush, If I had to have extended access I would go sattelite. Too many places here in the west have either 2G service or no service at all.

RE: Magnum ME 2012 Inverter/Converter

While the rig is in storage I have no AC power and the Magnum draws 0.3A DC. There is no switch to disconnect it from the battery. Besides adding a switch is there any way to reduce the draw?
That draw will discharge the batteries to 50% in 30 days and so I will add a switch if that is my only option.
I also run the Magnum 2012. When it is turned off it draws 0 amps. What you are seeing is a DC draw in your rig. Probably the propane detector, or CO alarm. It's not the Magnum. I would add a DC switch to shut down all draws from the batteries.

RE: actual trailer being towed

My truck is a 2005 crew cab Duramax. With the 5er hitch installed it weighs 7,000lbs. My Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating is 22,000lbs.
My trailer's gross weight is rated at 11,000lbs. The pin is less than 2,000lbs. The last time I put the rig on the scales the combined weight was 16,800 with all tanks full and fully loaded for the road. It's a very comfortable weight for the truck.

RE: advised not to use a solar panel?

You really won't understand solar until you read a bunch about it.
I suggest http://www.jackdanmayer.com/rv_electrical_and_solar.htm
He has one of the best sections on solar in his web site. And...He's not selling anything.

RE: 28 Foot 5er...Do We Need 2nd A/C

I have a 28' Wildcat with single pane windows and a single 15K a/c.
If I let the trailer get hot, it would be nice to have a second unit to cool it down in 100*+ weather. However if I'm parked and start the a/c earlier, it will keep the trailer cool. The trick is not to let the interior warm up. Everything in the trailer will radiate heat and the a/c just cannot cool it down below about 80*.
