RE: Mandatory vehicle coverage with GMAC?

Try Progressive Ins. They do it for me. No problem. The RV policy is written like a home policy and is separate from my pickup policy. It turned out to be significantly cheaper than GMAC.

RE: Two generator questions

Combustable fuel inside the cab... Never! Too risky.
Put it in the bed of the truxk. That's what the bed is for... To haul stuff around.

RE: Sleep number mattress issue(s)

Never had a problem with mine like you describe. Although, prior to purchasing our Sleep Number we noticed that the "plywood" board on the bed platform was bowing down when we were in bed. It was flat when the mattress was removed. So, I added two angle iron cross pieces under the plywood surface, dividing the platform in about thirds. One crosses approximately at our hips and the other is at chest level. By useing angle iron, we didn't loose any under bed storage. We love our Sleep Number! My side = 50, her side = 25.

RE: Black Tank issue

If the plastic bottle is sealed, it should float. In my rig, if I turn on the tank flush with the drain valve closed, I can look into the tank through the toilet flush valve, and see the "liquid" in the tank slowly rotating. I would try to use a trash pickup tool, or some kind of grabber, to catch the bottle as it floats by. Good luck. :)

Port Townsend, lots to see and do. Same with Port Angeles. Sol Duc Hot Springs is a great soak. And, as previously mentioned, Forks, Ho Rain Forest, Ruby beach and Klaloch lodge.

RE: Farewell Bend State Park, Oregon

Beautiful little park. Nice place to stay several days and relax. When we were kids we used to swim in the Snake River. I don't know if it is ok to do so anymore.

RE: Fresh water tank overflow line????

In every rig I've seen, the vent lines are plumbed into the top of the water tank. I don't see how any siphon action could occur. You could have some "slop" as the water moves around when traveling, but that would be pretty minor and would stop as soon as the tank is down a couple of quarts. Am I missing something?

RE: New Good Sam Cards have no exp date?

Is it possible that Good Sam is in the process of rolling out their own reservation/registration computer system? That would allow them to instantly check for valid cards and current membership dues. Much like KOA uses. If you don't make your annual payment... no discount. And, the cost of that computer system, and the fees charged to campground owners would generate another revenue stream for Mr. Lemonis. Just asking...

RE: keep warm..

Years ago when I was a Scout Master, the troup camped with hammocks everywhere we could put one up. The ground pad would go in first, the sleeping bag next, and then bundle in. We would also put up a rain fly over the top. We kept very warm because the ground would wick heat away more than air moving under us. The comfort of sleeping in a hammock can't be beat. Never had a problem with the ground pad scooting out from under us. Several times we woke with 4-6 inches of fresh snow on the ground and on our equipment.

RE: Any hidden costs associated with the Hughesnet Lease Option

Thanks for all your advise. The consumer ratings I found have Hughes as the top of the heap. Sounds like no hidden extra costs. Thanks again.

Any hidden costs associated with the Hughesnet Lease Option

So I have been doing some research on satellite internet...
Factors:
-Fiber optic connection is not available. The resort has fiber optic connection for their business use and provides Wifi for employees use.
-DSL is not available at all.
-Cable is not available either.
-Wifi is nearly non-existent where I am. Due to high use it boggs down to a frustrating SLOW crawl. A directional antenna does not help much.
-Cell based internet connection has simmilar issues. 4G and 3G is not available.
So:
I have been looking into setting up my own system with a Hughesnet Lease.
-One question is, are there any hidden costs with Hughesnet? The basic package promotion indicates $39.99 for three months, $49.99 thereafter, $9.99 equipment lease, and a $99.99 setup fee.
-Another question is, will the basic package be enough for me given our useage is email, facebook, some picture posting, internet casino games, and internet searches. And, of course surfing the website here.
-Anything else I might need to know?
Thanks

RE: medical insurance in Canada for non residents

Check with Humana, they will have the answer.
Just as a side comment... Back in 2006 during our return from Alaska we had a medical emergency in northern BC. After talking to the medical biller for the clinic, we found that the cash price was about 20% of the insurance price. We never did try to seek insurance reimbursement because our deductable was about 20% anyway.
Now days we are finding more and more clinics here in the states are giving huge discounts for cash payers. Major medical insurance is all we purchase anymore, just to cover if anything really bad happens.
The only potential problem we could have is if we needed a very expensive prescription. It would take us a while to pay off the deductable. So far not a problem.

RE: Death Valley Campgrounds?

Furnace Creek Ranch run by Xanterra has some full-hookup sites.
Stovepipe Wekks run by Ortega Brothers has some full-hookup sites.
One of the Natioal Park campgrounds at Furnace Creek has some as well, but as previously stated is closed for renovations.
There are many dry National Park campgrounds. The weather here is cool with temperatures at night in the low 50s and air conditioners are not needed at this time.
Come on down!

RE: Talk me into/out of full-timing

A couple things to consider...
-A popup is not a full-time rig. You need someting bigger. And, rated four season.
-If you have to weigh "pros/cons" to convince yourself that full-time is an option for you, you will probably grow out of the notion. For the most part, those who are happy and successful in the full-time lifestyle knew when they first considered it. Or, they were working toward it for sometime.
-The suggestion to reduce your realestate holdings is a good one. That may take care of most of your concerns.
Good luck!

It is also reassuring knowing that co-workers are not some sort of criminal. I have nothing to hide, never been arrested, and never been accused, so any employer can feel free to check me out.

RE: Fridge Turns Off - Turns Back On When I Turn A Light On!

And another update: A few minutes after the last post I had a few lights on and was using the water pump. This time the pump was already on and pumping and the power cut out. Putting the fuse back in and taking it out didn't solve anything this time, but I heard a very faint crackle from one of the batteries and thought that a connection might be loose. Before I had time to look more closely at that possibility power came back on, but I may have also bumped into one of the cables.
But it still seems as though adding an incremental draw makes a difference. Still flummoxed.Your batteries should NEVER crackle! Check and tighten all connections and then begin trouble shooting again.

RE: Oregon Coast

While not the most popular time for coast travel, I stayed at numerous state parks Nov, Dec, and Jan several years ago. It was the perfect mix of weather, from sunny/warm to cloudy/brisk. And, I saw some of the most spectacular storms, and sunsets. I would return that time of year again for more of the same.

Marriage License doesn't prove you're a citizen.
Doesn't even prove you're still married. What if you are a foreign national married to a US citizen? Actually, this is one document I may have been jesting about.
