RE: Anaheim CA Rally, April 12-14, 2013

Dwight,
Pechanga is a very nice resort. That's why they will never let you in.

RE: Anaheim CA Rally, April 12-14, 2013

Oh, its Vince's Birthday, I would have never guessed unless Facebook didnt tell me (of course that was 3 days ago)......lol I thought "Old man River" was still hibernating... who woke Tom up anyway? :B
Dwight,
Are you ready to give me your motorhome? We are going to the Pow Wow at Pechanga in July and with that cool paint job it would be the perfect set of wheels.

RE: Awning Rolls Up Crooked

I had an electric awning on my previous trailer that had a similar problem. What caused the problem was that the awning material had moved on the rail and caused the fabric to roll up and a little crooked and the supports would not align correctly.

What if Tom doesn't want to be woken up? Taint touchin that!!!
You better not be touchin nothin when I'm sleeping. And will you guys please keep the noise down?
Got rid of our 3 year "house guests" and we have been busy fixing, replacing, cleaning, planting the vegetable garden, etc. We don't even have any camping trips on the horizon.
Now leave me alone.

RE: My moho is a life saver

I agree that A/C is invaluable. And we have used ours when the electricity went out. But I have always been curious about how people lived before A/C. It's hard to imagine.

RE: Ride Quality

Explain to your marital unit that in a DP she can put the foot rest up, sit back, snack on food she just got out of the refer or cabinet and read. And occasionally tell you how to drive. No more using rest rooms at rest stops.

RE: Thinking about a Jeep

Yes, Jeeps ride like a, well, a Jeep (Well, what do you expect?).
NO, they don't get the greatest fuel economy. (Isn't it strange how perceptions change. I can remember when 18 MPG was GOOD, and $1 per gallon fuel was obscene! Now, we are convinced that $3 per gallon is great, and vehicles should get 25 to 35 MPG!)
Yes, the new Jeeps are, in some ways, better than the old ones. So I hear.
I like my 2006 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited just fine. It has just the mods I want, it has the look I want (I don't much care for the design of the new ones), and I have driven it on several long trips (as in Montana to NW Washington to Central Cali and back). No problems.
AND, it tows very nicely behind my Tioga Class C. It also gets a little better than twice the fuel economy that the C does.
It is also presently our daily driver, 10 mile round trip commute to work, grocery getter, etc.
It is all relative...
The commute is short, and I have done some homework and know the mileage is not good and they ride like a Jeep. Like all things RV, you have to make compromises. I am more concerned about the weight, and also wonder about insurance costs. Is insurance any more/less than a comparable sized vehicle?

Thinking about a Jeep

We are considering buying a Jeep to replace our Saturn Vue as a toad. The reason being that we would like to be able to do some easy off roading in the desert. Sand roads, etc. but definitely no rock climbing or anything like that. The Jeep would also have to serve as a commute vehicle for a few years. No freeway, just surface streets.
We would be towing with a 40' MH with a cat 350 and would need to stay under 5000 lbs, preferably way under.
Given all of the above, what models of Jeep should we consider?
Thanks for any responses.

RE: HOW do you do it?

Our first trip to Anza Borrego was in October. Miserable just like your trip. But now we go in November and March, and when we arrive there we both feel like we are coming home. The desert is an awesome experience if visited at the right time of the year.

RE: Getting out the door

We keep linens, personal toiletry items, non perishable (and some perishable) items, some clothing in the MH. A few days before the trip my wife shops and we put the rest of the perishables in the fridge. The night before we add any clothing we may need.
Then on the day of departure we load personal electronic items (cell phones, Ipad, etc.) meds, reading material, cats, litter box.
Unhook electrical and surge protector. Unhook battery minder.
Position wooden ramps so the motor home doesn't drag coming out of the driveway. Start engine and wait for air bags to fill. Pull out.
Put wooden ramps away.
Hook up toad. Get in motor home start engine, put in gear.
Then my wife goes back in the house to get whatever she forgot.
Put in gear again and pull away. Look at watch because at some point my wife will ask "what time did we leave".
It's worth it, but it's not quick.

RE: Strangest thing you carry with you

I carry a fence stretcher patented by Edward C. Lott on Feb 8, 1898. Patent number 598526 (www.google.com/patents/US788855.pdf). As near as I can tell, it was made that year.
I can see where that could come in handy.

Bumpy,
Here in CA the heat pump does a good job of heating, however it (like the AC) is noisy so we prefer the gas heater.

RE: Anaheim, Ca. Rally April 13-15, 2012

We are at Pleasant Lake RV for 27 a night, with Good Sam rate. Great resort and very quiet at night...you can hear the wild burros fart in the early AM. Will check out "The Rally" tomorrow. Then we must decide if we will adjust the travel plans home, due to a projected storm.
Come on now. We all know it was Vince you heard.
How was the drive over?

RE: Anaheim, Ca. Rally April 13-15, 2012

Nah, nothing like that Tom, heck, Ill even miss you! How sad is that on my part? :B In reality, Im told Im doing pretty good, physical therapy wise. I have full movement back in the Knee, we're just waiting to get Full movement without it "killing me" and to get strength back in that leg. Im really regreting cancelling but even a short drive in the car is a killer, cant imagine driving the MH down and then trying to set up. You all have a Great time and take plenty of pictures...OK?
Just take care of yourself and do as the doctor orders. There will be plenty of rallies in our future.

RE: Anaheim, Ca. Rally April 13-15, 2012

I just realized something...........................................YIKES, I put Dwight and Tom next door to each other. LOL Is there gonna be a cat and dog fight????? hehehe
And here I just sent you an E-mail about the dreaded "cancelling"....I hate to do it but after a small outing on Friday that involved some walking, some sitting, some standing...well, without alot of Great detail, I just dont see my mobility being up to Par for all the activities that make Anaheim so much Fun. As indicated, I hate to do it because Ive never missed this Rally. Sorry :(
OK, I can take a hint. You just didn't want my motor home to look bad by putting yours next to it.

RE: Rapid RV assembly

The plant was in northern Indiana, and I saw a Jayflight banner in the background in one shot.
How can a human being work at the pace for an 8 hour day, day after day? The workers have my respect, not so much the manufacturer.
