RE: Feedback on Bounder

We bought a Fleetwood Southwind 06' in 2010 and are very happy with it to date.....quality is good throughout coach....it had 24K miles on it when we bought it and is running great with no issues so far knock on wood. Only issue I have is the "roll" the suspension has when driving on winding roads and I could spend $$ on modifications to it but not going to now.

RE: Campfire recipes

Best idea we every got was our "tube buscuit" donuts.....just put a tube busquit raw on your campfire roasting fork through the side and slowly roast it until nicely browned and it rises.....melt butter in a small frying pan and roll the buscuit in the butter, then roll into cinnamon sugar.....kids luv em and so will you.....

RE: Any day/night shades expert here?

If you have to re-attach the spindle to the cord....what I've done is go buy a metal sewing bobin at Walmart to replace the plastic one....it's much stronger. Good luck.....

RE: This has always perplexed me...

We have a county campground in the San Diego county park system we like to use as often as we can. It is always "quote" booked up in the system on line and at the park ranger shack on the board as you arrive any Friday afternoon. It shows all 32 sites are taken. Now every single time we've stayed there, there invariably are at least 10 or more sites that remain empty all weekend long. This makes us crazy.....we've many times had no luck getting extra sites for friends who want to join us later. So what's up with these folks...?? We've always figured they change their minds due to weather or something. The county gets it's money, so they're happy.

RE: looking for extended stay in Longbeach, CA area

As a Long Beach resident and RVr I can atest to the comment above......the only RV park around here is the Golden Shores....after that the closest would be Canyon RV park in Yorba Linda off the 91 about 20 miles away...or Newport Dunes down the 405 will cost a fortune....could go North and try Dockweiler state beach is in the Los Angeles County system....good luck.

RE: SoCal Camping

Look up Santee Lakes inland San Diego....that's a great one....Newport Dunes at Newport Beach is expensive but nice....also Ocean Mesa above Santa Barbara is nice. It's too hard to get spots at the beach here in California with the system in place....we go to County park websites and private parks. Try Riverside county parks and San Diego county park websites.

RE: Reservations or no reservations?

Those of us still in the work force usually need to make reservations as time is more valuable to us than some of those RVers retired and travelling on their own terms. Then when you also live in a state like California which is so crowded we can't camp on a whim....if we want to use our own beaches we have to book 7 months out get a spot if we're lucky. I look forward to the day when I can just jump in coach and drive in any direction with no timeline or particular distination in mind.....well, I can dream.

RE: Camping in Laughlin, NV

Our favorite Laughlin RV park is the Avi.....it has a KOA park right next to the casino/hotel and staying there you can use all the amenities of the hotel....beautful pool area, buffetts, restaurants, movies, nice sandy beach on river....little store there sells fireworks they let you set off in a field there.....about 10 miles south of Laughlin.

RE: My first RV was....

Great story....I work for local utility and started as a meter reader 15 years ago. Got bit by a dog during that time and filed a claim against the home owners insurance....led to a small windfall to family. Our church got some $$, our boys elementary school got $$...and we got our first pop up camper. That started our RV journey....now our boys are seniors in high school, and we have gone through that pop up, a new fifth wheel/truck, and now a class A. It's been a great ride....now looking forward to the wife and I doing some "retirement research" in the coming years.....:)

Given the chance our state legislators would LOVE to get revenue from us driving on our own roads....you just wait.

RE: Campgrounds and public transportation to Legoland Florida

Can't confirm "walking distance" camping....but I believe there is a state campground (through reserve America) in Carlsbad at the beach....Legoland is inland on Ease side of the 5 freeway on a hill. I also can tell you that the railroad line runs right through there as well, so you could take the train from almost anywhere on the coast that would let you off there. You'd need a taxi to the park. Good luck......

RE: Bullhead City RV Resort

Well....first of all, you ARE ON THE COLORADO RIVER so you should expect winds in that area. We've been there when the wind picked up so fast we were running around the rv park trying to save other folks canopies. We like to stay at the Avi KOA accross the river just north of the 40. Staying there you can use all the amenities of the Avi resort as well....great pool, restaurants, buffets, movies. Will be there again in June.

Look into the Oasis RV park.....heard good things about it....it's West of the strip off of Las Vagas Blvd....I think it has a shuttle service to get you into the strip.

RE: Lake Tahoe area CGs

We've only stayed at Zephyr Cove.....the location is great, and right accross the street is the beach with all the rental boats and cruises to take on the lake and a restaurant too. Just about 3 miles to the casinos.....we enjoyed it.

RE: Reserve America

Most people can't roll with 3 days notice.....those of us that work need advance reservations. You really can't make plans when you can't roll on a moments notice......California is just too populated to be able to use our own state parks, and the price just keeps going up for what you get. Just my oppinion.....

RE: Reserve America

We gave up on Reserve America a long time ago.....it's no use playing their little game. As you see, you can spend hours on the phone even with multiple phones calling in....if you don't get lucky enough to get through within an hour or so on the first of the month 7 months out....then all sites are gone from San Fran. to San Diego for that month. We use County sites, and private RV parks....granted, it's not the same as a state park on the coast, but let's face it....most of them have railroad tracks running right there, and the prices have gone through the roof. We can stay at an RV resort with golf, pools, tennis, spas on a developed site with outdoor kitchen, fireplace or pit for $55 bucks per night.....what are they charging now for dirt at a state park....???

RE: Lending your Rig

If they are reasonable/logical at all...they should understand the issues. When we started RVing with a pop up camper, there were so many steps opening it up, stableizing, breaking down....if these steps where not done in the correct order, or skipped/forgotten, then severe damage could occur to the RV. This still applies to trailers, 5th wheels and class A's. It's not like a stick home, where the most important thing is to lock the windows and doors, maybe turn off water so pipes don't freeze in winter. Why do you think that "rental" trailers are in such poor shape...?? End of issue.
