RE: Stalling Cummins 8.3 (Sudden loss of power)

You might want to take it into a Cummins service center so they can check the codes in the computer?

RE: how do i flush radiator on country coach 2005 with c9 cat

My Country Coach owners manual specifies a lengthy process of draining, flushing with a chemical flush, then flushing with good quality water ( the flushing is done several times and includes running the engine), then refilling with a specified coolant. I don't have the manual at hand, or I'd give more details.
Because I don't have a way to properly dispose of all the liquids coming out of the flush process, I've never tried it myself, but have used a truck service to do the job.

RE: Verizon Data- Problem or Scam

I'm not up on this stuff (my cell phone only does phone calls :)
However, doesn't the hot spot feature mean that someone else might have been using your phone (hacked into it) as an access point for the internet unknown to you -- and maybe downloaded a number of movies or something?
I'm guessing that Verizon has so much traffic that they don't really keep any records of specific internet accesses -- which means that they probably don't really know what internet activity went on with your phone/hot spot.

RE: Funeral Edict?

My wife is from Alabama.
When we share a road or intersection with a funeral procession, we get out of the car and stand at attention with our hands over our hearts (hats off). When we've lived in the south, everyone else did the same.
In some other states we've lived in, the public shows little or no respect.
Suppose you were in a funeral procession for your parent or spouse or child, think how it would help you through the day to have your loved one's funeral interruped by people who thought that they were so important that they couldn't spare a few minutes to honor your loss.

RE: How many trips do you average?

Our first trip this year lasted 15 weeks (that's during 2012 - we actually started out last December but I'm not counting that for this year).
The trip we are on now will probably last about 8 weeks.
We are thinking that we will make another trip of 4 to 8 weeks before the end of the year.
So, for this year we will have three trips lasting a total of about 6 or 7 months.
I guess the answer to your question is that we average about 3 trips a year, and are usually in the RV around half of the year.
We don't take that many trips, but we tend to stay gone for a while.

Automatic RV weighing?

One of my neighbors drives a long haul semi-truck.
His setup has a system that calculates the weight of the trailer by sensing the air pressure in the trailer suspension air bags.
I believe that it's a simple calculation of summing the suspension air pressure (psi) times the surface area of the bottom of all the air bags.
It seems like it would be fairly simple to make the same sort of calculation for the front and rear axle weights of an RV with air suspension.
Any thoughts?

RE: Splendide W/D

Two suggestions:
1. It could be the motor control board. When it starts the spin cycle, it should first spin a little at low speed and slow down, then spin a little faster and slow down again, repeat a few times. This is the motor control board assessing how much the load in the drum is in/out of balance. Then it should go into full spin, with the max speed moderated by the results of the first spin tests. This is supposed to keep the drum from really vibrating with an out of balance load.
2. If you can use something like high density foam blocks to wedge between the sides of the washer/dryer and the cabinet walls enclosing it, this can absorb most of the vibration.

RE: Microwave/Convection Oven Failures

We had a Sharp microwave that quit. We took it out and carried it to an appliance repair place. They replaced an internal fuse for about $100.
A year later, the Sharp quit again. We replaced it with a GE Convection/MW. Much happier with the oven, and no problems.
YMMV

RE: what about those people who stop fulltiming?

When we retired, we sold the house and used the proceeds to buy our RV (no payments), and hit the road (visiting every state but Hawaii, and most of the Canadian provinces). After six+ years, I developed a medical condition that made it difficult to travel away from my doctors, etc.
So, we bought a one-bedroom condo and stayed in place for two years during which my condition improved. That has allowed us to get back on the road part-time (we expect to be traveling in the RV about 8 months this year (4 months on the road, one month in the condo while going through the medical processing, then repeat).
I's rather be full timing again, but in our situation, this works pretty well.
I've kept up with the forum.

RE: Black Tank issue

If you have reasonable access to the outside or bottom of the tank, you can always cut a big hole and patch it after you extract your bottle.
I would pay an RV repair place to do this job rather than taking it on myself (I have built fiberglass boats, so I'm sure I could do it -- but I just wouldn't want to).

RE: using UPS mail forwarding

IMO, you might want to consult an attorney.
The catch in your situation is that your medical insurance is not valid if you move away from your current home area.
If you have a pattern of getting medical services, prescriptions, physical therapy, etc. etc. while in locations away from your current home base, your insurance company may decide to dump you.
The real risk is that if you have some major medical situation costing in the $100,000s, your insurance company may look very hard to find a reason not to pay.
The father of an acquaintance was visiting in another city in the same state (outside the area served by his HMO). He had a heart attack, and ended up getting surgery in the city outside his HMO area. The HMO paid for the emergency room, but not the surgery. They said he should have taken medevac to get back to the HMO for the surgery.
If the insurer takes the position that you are trying to defraud them by concealing your true home location, it could get even worse.
Of course, YMMV.

RE: What do I put in my water? Bleach?

We bought our RV in 2003, and lived in it full time for six years. Now we are on the road in our RV about five to seven months a year.
We've never sanitized the fresh water tank, and I've never given it a thought.
I guess I'll try doing it the next time it's convenient. In the RV space we are in now, if I were to flush (fill and drain the tank), the water from the tank would run down hill into my neighbors picnic table area.

RE: Do I have to get a mobile vehicle acct to get DirecTV DNS?

You cannot subscribe DNS with a home based account UNLESS you live in an area that is not served by OTA broadcasters. Others may chime in and tell you they are doing it, but it goes against FCC policy and should not be allowed.Just a caution, unless you are the offspring of a government bureaucrat and a federal judge, a normal person cannot interpret government rules and regulations such as those from the FCC governing DNS. Just understanding exactly what the wording says may not be relevant to how the rules and regulations are applied in practice (which also may vary from day to day).

RE: Frustration setting Slimline

My Slimline blew over last week in a terrible windstorm and now I can't find the 101 at all. I'm thinking LNB that has gone south but Popsie's comments about being the dish have now raised another possibility. It has a slight ding at the top edge but the surface itself appears to be fine. Just how badly was the ding on yours Popsie? BTW, I do detect some signals on the meter, just none of them are the right one. thankfully I still have my 18" dish here and have at least SD TV, but no locals, they are apparently in HD only in this part of Iowa. There was a very slight bend in the rim that goes around the edge of the dish.

Ask around at carpeting/flooring stores, or at RV dealers/repairers to see if they know any flooring installers that do RVs.

RE: Frustration setting Slimline

I had a problem recently that resulted from the dish itself being very slightly bent. That prevented me from getting any signal at all.
So, I called DirecTV, and they sent out a technician to point the antenna.
He couldn't get a signal either, so he replaced the dish, and got a full signal.
Interesting to me is that the folks in the adjacent space have the same antenna setup which works fine, but after he aligned ours, we have 3 more degrees of tilt than the next door neighbor, and the antenna is pointed a few degrees east of our neighbors. Both antennas get great signals.
Go figure!
