RE: ANOTHER recall from Diamond~It's now time to contact FDA

There are more voluntary recalls of other brands of food manufactured at the Diamond plant. I don't believe these have been posted by anyone here yet. If they have, then sorry for the repeat.

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

If you must attempt to hide it in something pumpkin puree(not pumpkin pie filling) is very effective. It's thick enough that they don't realize there's a pill in there most of the time. Never met a dog who doesn't love it and it's good for them.
I could introduce you to a large number of dogs who detest pumpkin. I have no idea why so many people believe it's widely loved but dogs, but IME it's no different than any other fruit or veggie--some dogs like it and some don't.

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

Pill gun...get one at Petsmart. We have had difficult dogs and cats over the years and we found this the easiest to use and it was the most effective.
That's what I'd try. A pill gun is inexpensive, so if it doesn't work you haven't lost much. But IMO it makes pilling cats and non-food-motivated dogs a lot easier. Here's a link so you can see one:

RE: New Maryland state appeals court ruling on Pit Bulls

How many of these made the national news?
Newborn dead after family dog attacks (a lab)
Dog breaks free, attacks another at Brevard beach park St Bernard-Lab mix
Three dog bite attacks JRT
Child's Death Following Dog Attack Ruled Accidental Mastiff/Rhodesian mix
Golden woman injured in dog attack Karelian Bear Dog
I saw a story about the RR/Mastiff attack on a televised national news program. It was either MSNBC or CBS Nightly News, I don't remember which. I read about most of those on various online news sites. Don't ask me which ones, I regularly visit several news sites and couldn't say which one(s) I saw the stories on now. I do remember the story about the RR/Mastiff mix got fairly broad coverage. I don't remember reading about the Brevard Beach incident.

RE: Free Kindle Books

A lot of Amazon's free books are free for a very short time--sometimes as little as a couple of hours. And some stay free for weeks. Sometimes when they're no longer free for everyone they're still free for Prime members. You just have to make sure before you "one click."
Chopper Bill, you can return an e-book to Amazon and get your money back. I believe you have a seven day return period.

No, I didn't miss it. But since it's completely impossible for anyone on this forum to know the thoughts of the majority of RV'ers . . . I kindly ignored it. ;)

RE: Myrtle Beach SC

This website is the only place I have ever heard of people that dont like OL's makes you wonder if some people just like to find a reason to complain.Everybody likes different things but the majority of RVers like OL's or it would not stay booked.:)
We know quite a few people in real life who don't like OL.
And that's okay. Really, it is.
We prefer MBTP, to the point that we wouldn't stay anywhere else. But I know some people don't like it. And that's okay, too. Really.
Just because someone else has a different preference than you (generic "you") doesn't invalidate your choice at all.

RE: Any dog parks in Pigeon Forge?

I don't believe it is ever acceptable to let a dog run leash free unless it is in an enclosed lot.
And that is exactly what a dog park is -- a large, fenced area specifically for dogs to run and play off leash. Most municipalities of any size have at least one dog park nowadays.

RE: bunkhouse or NO bunkhouse?

We have a bunkhouse Class A. We didn't consider any type of RV that didn't have dedicated sleeping space for everyone. Having to pull out a couch every night and put it up every morning is most definitely not my idea of fun. Plus I always get up a couple of hours before everybody else. I want room to make my coffee, read or do whatever I want w/o disturbing anyone.

We tow an automatic 2001 CRV. No idea why you have to do the run-it-through-the-gears thing, but we sure do it.

RE: Lucky

If somebody called us lucky we'd say "Absolutely!"
There's a great deal of luck or good fortune or whatever you want to call it in play when a person gets to live their dream (or even a little bit of the dream). I've known way too many people who worked their butts off, lived within their means, made good decisions and still struggled for reasons completely beyond their control to ever be so arrogant as to attribute it all to hard work and good decisions.

RE: Ideas to get dog to stop digging under fence & out of yard?

I would go with the chicken wire and try to get the dog some more exercise and mental stimulation. Some of the terrier breeds are hard-wired for digging, but IME the vast majority of dogs who dig do so due to sheer boredom.

RE: heartworm and flea control

I have a (fabulous) but rather "old school" vet whose advice several years ago was to avoid all-in-one products. His theory is that it's maybe not good to throw so many things into a dog's system all at once. I haven't revisited the issue with him recently, but in general I tend to agree with what he said.
So I use separate HW preventative and flea/tick control and space them at least several days apart. Plus I like the flexibility. I don't need to use a flea/tick control product all the time. We don't have any problem here at home, so the dogs really only need it when we're going to be out and about in the RV. If I used a combo flea/tick and HW preventative I'd have to give it regularly and it would end up costing substantially more over the course of a year.

RE: new dog in town

Congratulations!
It takes a special kind of people to adopt an abused dog.
Be patient (maybe very, very patient) and he will eventually come around. One thing that may help is when you're sitting around watching TV or reading or whatever, gently toss a small treat in his direction now and then. To begin with you may not even want to look in his direction or speak to him when you toss a treat if that little bit of "contact" seems to make him anxious or stressed. The treats will send the message in a very non-threatening way that you're a good thing.

Ours has a black tank rinser, but if I remember correctly we had it added as an option.

RE: Our infant world...

It's not likely at all that Wally World would be able to sell whatever envelopes they happened to have in stock, given that they'd have no ability to scan bar codes or use their "cash registers" (which are, of course, computers). Since I assume they probably don't have a supply of functioning "old timey" cash registers stashed in the back of each store in the event of such an emergency, I guess they'd have to go back to putting price stickers on everything, tallying the total up on a piece of paper and keeping some cash in a cigar box to make change. Yeah, that's gonna work well in the short term. :R
And then there's the little issue of keeping up with inventory and re-stocking w/o the benefit of computers.
It would take many, many months (years?) to revert and have even a small semblance of efficiency.

RE: This has always perplexed me...

There could be many reasons.
For us -- We'd want/need to get home and get the RV unpacked and straightened out, get caught up on laundry. There would probably be groceries to buy for the upcoming week. We'd need to check in on my mom and MIL to make sure they're okay, and probably one or both of their yard's would need mowing. Our yard might need mowing, too. The kids would have homework to get done and there might be a sports practice or volunteer activity. In short . . . because for most of us, especially those in the "sandwich generation" with both kids at home and elderly parents to care for, life is full of responsibilities beyond a campground.
