RE: Workhorse closing down

Just want tell anyone with a Workhorse chassis that they are closing down Workhorse this fall. ( November )
If you have a WH you need to get the brake recall done now. Parts are still available and WH is still paying to have it done. May not be the case after they close down.
Ron
Why would you post this? You're apparently very misinformed.

RE: Hartford (AARP) insurance

Hartford was twice as much as Goodsam/ GMAC. Progressive was 3 times as much as GMAC. I haven't had a claim so I can't vouch for quality there. We tried the GMAC, they seem to take payments efficiently. :D
I've had the same experience with Hartford and Progressive. We are now with GMAC thru FMCA at a very attractive rate. They also allow you to suspend your collision if in storage but, that may depend on your finance co. if financed.
Richard
And for me, accident free, living in Ma., Progressive was about half the cost of GMAC.
Go figure.

RE: now what

I purchased our MH on Ebay. The seller had very good feedback, over 300 transactions and they were still at 100%. I flew to Az. to inspect the rig and verify VIN numbers, and only after that did I call the bank and ask them to xfer funds. This is not rocket science. People buy things on eBay all the time without getting ripped off. There are a few basic things to pay attention to, but no reason to automatically assume that because it's on eBay it's a scam.

RE: Hartford (AARP) insurance

I don't think The Hartford is allowed to see insurance in Mass. We clearly need to be protected from consumer predators such as them.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

I had an intermittent short in an outside plug in my curb side storage bay. Water had gotten inside the plug, and the wires were corroded. Until it went completely bad, took a while to find it.

RE: Fresh water tank filling while connected to shore water

When that happened to me, it was due to not having a valve in my wetbay completely closed, as JimGo mentioned. It was just opened a smidge, hard to even notice, until I pushed on it with my fingers just to make sure.
Hope your's is that easy to solve :)

RE: goodyear tires

Considering the tens of thousands of Goodyear and Michelin tires that are out there, and the fact that those two brands are used exclusively on most new RV's for decades, their record for performance is outstanding.
Sure some of those off brands MAY perform well, but they all, in total, represent a very tiny fraction of the RV tires in use, so no valid comparison can be made. One person having good luck with some Korean tire is no guaranty that every one of that manufacturer's truck tires are great.
So you're saying that the number of trucks/truckers that might use a given tire don't count, because they're not RVs?
Not sure I follow the logic there.

RE: Water Pump keeps running

Toss my vote in for the valve position. My coach does the same exact thing if I leave the valve in the "Fill tank" position. I don't think there's any check valve on that inlet, because there is a valve.
Glad you're all set.

RE: Highway Restrictions - NH to SC

I take I84 west through Ct, and pick up 684/287 to the Tappanzee, then down from there. Bypasses the whole New Haven/Stamford I95 mess, as well as the George Washington Bridge.
As a side note, you might want to check the weight of your trailer and the towing capacity of your Thor. Most gassers are rated between 3,500 and 5,000lbs towing. Depending on what's in your trailer, you may be close to the limit.
Safe travels,

RE: Tecma toilets

The friend said it was where the water entered the system. I went to the MH a couple of hours ago gently put a plunger to it. The water that I had poured into the bowl went out fast but it will not go through the flush cycle. I poured another gal water and it drained right on through. Does this system work with a Vacuum.
The way mine is set up, I don't believe there is any way you could "plunge" it. The macerator doesn't really have a flow-through arrangement. It's more like a water pump impeller with wide veins. But it was 2yrs ago, so I might be misremembering, as my DW says frequently happens.

RE: Towed vehicle safety cables vs chains question

Big huge thing often neglected when talking safety chains is where they attach to. Most base plates have convenient hooks to connect the chains, however what happens when the base plate comes loose. This has happened several times here on RVnet, which resulted in the safety chains not doing anything. The safety chain must be secured separately to the frame, otherwise their redundant function as a safety device is moot. After reading several of these failures, I added new chains that wraps around the frame. When I connect the chains, I connect into the baseplate and the extra chain.
I installed my blueox baseplate myself. I know that the 10 bolts that hold it to the frame are at the right torque, and were all coated with LockTite when I installed them. If, somehow, the bolts came loose, all 10 of them, coated with locktite, then there are 2, not 1, safety cables that go around the baseplate and the frame of the vehicle. There's no way my baseplate is coming off.
And my receiver pin has a safety pin through it, so there's no way that's getting pulled out of the receiver.
If a baseplate came off, it was more than likely a crappy installation, or a home-made baseplate coupled with a crappy installation.
And NO NO NO, you should definitely NOT use those safety cables!!!
Sell them to me instead :) :) :)

RE: Tecma toilets

I had to take mine apart due to a clogged macerator pump. NOT fun.
I don't remember any filter though. Why would they filter THAT water?
Good luck.

RE: Sumitomo Tires 275 70r22.5

Once again I have never understood why people want to go cheap on the single most important thing on your RV. Your life rides on your tires and everybody thinks cheap is best. Not me mister, I value my life and my families way more. You pay for what you get.
Don,
I've never understood why paying more makes people think they have a better product. I bought my Sumi's from a local, family-run truck shop. These people have been putting Sumi's on trucks for years, and have had no trouble with them, and they not only take pride in their reputation, they DEPEND on their reputation as a locally-owned small shop.
My Michelins were an odd size that was difficult to find, and they were expensive by 2X the price of the Sumis.
I'm very happy with my decision.

RE: First Trip Towing TOAD - STATS

I've put roughly 18,000 miles on our Pace Arrow 36D, Workhorse 22 chassis, 8.1L, Allison.
I don't think it would get 9mpg going down hill, and no, I wouldn't trust the computer. How fast were you cruising? I run 65mph, and average 7.5, more like 7.0 towing a 3000lb HHR.

RE: looking for owners of 2004-2005 Pace Arrows

Ready Brake here. Very little work required on the car, it's a steel cable that runs from a lever on their receiver, through the front of the car, around the engine compartment, through the firewall, and clamps to the brake pedal. As your MH slows down, the car pushes forward on the receiver, which in turn pulls the cable and the brake pedal. Very little to break, and very simple system.

If I recall correctly,on my 2005 36B,that light is controlled by a switch on the dash labeled "Utility Light"
Bingo...that's it.
Thanks AHRMA1! Something so simple...just never got to it until now, and never really had a need for it.

RE: looking for owners of 2004-2005 Pace Arrows

I picked up the 1/4" hex head screws and I'll be attempting this fix next week.
Can't wait. For 4 seasons I've been squirting dish detergent on the sides of the dash whenever it starts squeaking, and watching the sides of the MH bounce up and down relative to the dash thinking "That just ain't right" :)
