RE: Went and Did it!!!

Congratulations on your new baby. We do remember how it feels and all the excitement. Make sure the dealer has someone show you all the goodies and explains them. See you on the road.

RE: Refrigerator not working

When you run the fridge it will need 12 volts for the brain. 120ac or propane it still needs 12 volts.

RE: Won't start

My buddy's rv won't start if the slide outs are out. The slide out behind the driver seat will not come in if the driver's seat is set back. He has to slide the driver's seat forward and then bring in the slide and then he can start the engine.

RE: Generator surges under load

I agree with ryanallie1 about the Sea Foam. Inexpensive and will clean out the carbon and gunk in the gen set. Recommended by Onan. I put some in a spray bottle and took off the air filter. While running spray into the air filter until the gen set stops. Let it sit for an hour or so and start it up. Stay away from the exhaust pipe because a lot of junk will shoot out. Don't ask how I know.

RE: Question re DP Starting Batteries

They sell cut-off switches. One is a knife type and the other is a screw down type. Install one at the starter battery and disconnect or open the switch when storing the unit. About $10.00 or less.

RE: Block Heater on DP

My next-door neighbor bought a new rv. He asked me why the AC meter on his house ran so fast when the rv was plugged in. We went step by step and worked it down to the engine block heater. It pulled close to 15 amps all the time. That was after he had the rv for about a month and couldn't figure why it pulled all those amps when it was turned off. We live in Calif and he unplugged it and never needed needed it again.

RE: Re-upholstering sofa

One way to do it is to sign up for an upholstery class at your local college. My wife did that and they had students bring in whatever they wanted to re-upholster from classic car seats to rv to home furniture. She re-upholstered a chair she got from her grandmother. The teacher graded them on the finished products. She couldn't go wrong since the teacher was there and helped all the students.

RE: 12 Volt Lights Flickering

Do they flicker when running on gen set? Do they flicker when on outside power?

RE: Energy Management Questions

You'll be fine with your setup. When we run the gen set in the am we run for an hour and set the two ac electric heaters on. One in the bathroom so it'll be warm for later and one in the living room so it is warm for breakfast. The batts get topped off after the nights use at the same time. We use the microwave while the gen set is running. We don't use the furnace because it wastes so much propane and electricity when running.

RE: Just need to vent...

Now now don't get us started. After 45 years we both have stories to tell. When gasoline went up and we had to wait in line. My wife skipped the line and filled up with diesel because it was cheaper and no line. She did get it home and we heard her coming several blocks away. Bang bang bang and clouds of smoke. Since diesel has a unique smell I knew what had happened before she explained that she saved us money and time by skipping the line and that the fuel was cheaper. Eventually I used the diesel in a sailboat diesel engine so no harm. The gasoline motor recovered just fine after I changed the oil and re-filled with gasoline. She has stories about me too but we won't go there today...............

Remember that the new batteries will be heavy so make sure the floor will hold the weight when bouncing along.

RE: New sound in my 454 Chevy engine

I agree with Tek-Rep, when your fan belt starts to come apart sometimes it will make a tick tick as it passes over different pulley's. I would check the belts first then move to the more complex possibilities. Another simpler possibility is the smog pump if your engine has one. I had one go bad and it also made a tick tick just before it seized up and shredded the fan belt. Good luck.

RE: SWITCH AT DOOR SHUTS DOWN 12VOLT

That switch doesn't stay engaged. That switch operates a heavy duty relay that latches to turn on the 12 volts. When you push the switch down it unlatches the heavy duty relay and opens the 12 volts. The switch is a momentary contact switch so it returns to the center position.

RE: New to A's

Ha! Funny, in the beginning we all were new at rving and asked all the normal new questions. Notice I didn't say dumb questions. If you don't know something and ask a question how can it be dumb? As has been posted, ask away and the first person that says it is a dumb question will have his/ her memory erased and they can start all over from the beginning. Happy rving hope to see you down the road.

RE: Whining noise in speakers when brake applied

Well, the motor is grounded since the minus 12 volt lead goes to the chassis at some point. Is it a new radio? Has it always done this?

RE: Generator Fuel Supply

I replaced the fuel line to our gasoline powered gen set. I had to stretch my arm up and over the tank but the outlet was in the corner nearest the side so it was accessible. My problem turned out to be the fuel pump but I now have new line also.
