RE: Pulling boat behind fifth wheel?

19 states do not allow dbl tow (trailer behind a fifth wheel) If allowed it has to have own braking system, not exceed 65 feet. Check with your insurance carrier if they will insure pulling a second trailer. I don't feel it's safe have two pivot points towing....whips to easy

RE: Satellite Fee's from Direct TV, city to city free

You can't always be parked where you will have television reception through your antenna. Getting the network channels, ABC,CBS etc is impossible when you're 300 miles South of Denver, nestled in the mountains...have the local channel option allows you to watch a host of channels even in remote areas.

RE: Satellite Fee's from Direct TV, city to city free

Where do you get the $15 fee? Is it because you have a home & an RV? We only have the Rv and pay $5 extra per month for local channels. Wherever I park, Olympia, WA....Ouray, CO....Victor, Idaho...I call Directv, give them my new service address + zip code and I get the local channels....not east-west coast feeds..something to check into. Been doing this for 7 years now

RE: Towing

You'll do fine towing with the diesel....but you might be suprised if you take the trailer to a place where you can weigh it like Flying J truck stop...if that's the sticker weight dry, that's before the factory adds air conditioner, refridge and any other features....by the time you load all your "stuff" you'll be close to 15,000

RE: Jayco Granite Ridge (2003) - No water coming out - help!

On some Jayco units, where you hook up the water and power are 5 switches..."Normal" "City water" "sanitize" "Tank Fill" There should be a diagram showing how the levers should be pointing. "Normal" is when you ned to use the pump.

RE: What is boondocking and how to do this.

Boondocking is camping without any electric, water or sewer hookups. Water is what you carry in your rig and power is a generator or solar power. Many people spend weeks in the desert or just an overnight in a parking lot is booddocking. You can't just pull in someplace that has a large parking lot and spend the night without permission from the store management.

RE: Dually towing... Few questions.

The only time I turn off the OD is steep grades. Driving on level roads, OD lets you have lower RPM's, better fuel economy.

RE: trailer size in parks

Strickly trailer length....for the most part the truck doesn't stay hooked up to the trailer.....now if you had a 40' motorhome and pull a 20' trailer....problem

RE: Texas or SD for permanent address

Lots of options to consider....we are registered in SD. Not personal income tax, no personal property tax, no sales tax, lower insurance rates, etc. No endorsements or vehicle inspections. We use a mail forwarding as our address and they obtain our tags for us, sort our mail and other odds & ends. Every 5 years you have to return to the state to get a picture taken for new drivers license. Vehicle tags are cheap but if you're buying a new rig and haven't paid sales tax, they don't have sales tax but an excise tax of 3% on a new purchase. Still cheaper than the 7% or 8% sales tax in other states.

RE: Direct TV receiver

When you go online, you will see a billing address (where your home is and where the bills come to) and a service address. The service address is where you are parked, that's what you change. As I move around the country, I change the service address to obtain the local channels and get a signal.

RE: rv cards

We've handed out cards for years as a full timer. We have a folder where we log new cards from people we have met and where. Nothing fancy on the card, just a name, our home state, email address is enough along with a web site or blog of travels.

RE: 10-ply tires

Not only the truck but I have 10 ply tires on my trailer. They have stronger sidewalls and can handle the bounce going down the road. Less chance of a blow out and that's peace of mind.

RE: Holding tanks won't empty

Another method used by many is making sure water is in the black tank, dump a small bag of ice cubes down the toilet then drive for 20 miles or so. Those ice cubes bouncing around in the tank will knock off and clean deposits built up inside. Within a couple of hours the ice cubes will melt and you can open the valve and drain the tank. Always, always use lots of water every time you use the toilet. You should have 2/3 water & 1/3 waste when you dump the tank. The force of all that water trying to get out the hole sucks paper and waste with it. Water is your free friend.

RE: CARPET -OUT!!!!

When they build an RV, they install the carpet then add furniture and cabinets on top of it. In some areas you'll only be able to cut the carpet close to woodwork, etc. Unless you want to strip everything out, lay the tile and replace what was removed.

RE: black tank cleaning

The hardest part is breaking up the deposits that build up & stick to the tank. It's a heavy PVC material so detergents will not harm the tank. But look at getting a wand that you stick down the stool and blast deposits from the tank. You can also add 15 gallons or so of water to the tank, drop in a 10 lb bag of ice cubes down the stool and drive down the road. The movement will let the ice cubes clean deposits and slowly melt leaving water and waste to empty down the sewer. I usually do this a couple of times a year when I'm going from one campground to another. I check in, hook up the sewer, dump, add chemical & water...ready to go again for a few months. Big key, lots and lots of water is needed in the black tank. You should end up with 2/3 water and 1/3 waste when you dump. The force of all that water trying to get out the hole sucks waste with it. Water, water, water!!

RE: Double Tow 5'R and Boat

Check into electric brakes for the boat or an independent brake system & check with your insurance company to see if they will cover a double tow...some will not. You could be safe in your state but illegal in other states. 19 states it is illegal to double tow....just a heads up.

RE: FLAT TIRE!!!!!!

Bottle jack works great....stores in a small space, lifts with ease, just make sure wheels are blocked to prevent rolling if unhooked. Also carry an old rug or bath mat so you have something to lay on when sliding jack under axle or just to put down to do any work.

RE: FLAT TIRE!!!!!!

I carry a hydraulic jack that fits under the axle to raise it up to change a tire. No need to unhook, just make sure you're out of the flow of traffic as much as you can. You can use the same jack to check brakes & pack wheel bearings. I carry a 4 ton jack as smaller doesn't lift as well.

It's like a cell phone...you have to have a subscription to something so it will work. So you will need a subscription to Directv or Dish in order for it to work.
