RE: Des Moines paper reporting attempted purchase of Winnebago

IMHO, Winnebago won't pull the trigger on this! There one of the most solid RV makers World Wide! They manufacture just about everything they need. They go outside of there own company to buy glass, tires etc. they just expanded back into RV Trailers and will be the leader in trailer sales in 5 to 10 years. Right now were on the upside of the worse depression the U.S. have ever experienced and Winnebago survived it! And that alone speaks for itself! Thanks for posting the article. Rooster

RE: Roof versus Basement A/C Units.

Silverback and Big Katuna....
They discontinued gas motorhomes because the 4th slide on a Winnebago wouldn't work with basement air.:B:B:B

RE: Tire Question

Yes, inspect them every time you stop keep your air pressure correct and you should be O.K. IMHO! My tires are good to go for this season, had them inspected, and they are an 2003 date.

RE: What would you do?

There's an RV Park in Lake Havasu City with this rule? I asked why and was told that they didn't want any rundown not maintained (outside appearance) RV's in there Park! But he did mention to me he wouldn't turn down anyone driving a 10 year old or older Prevost.

RE: Roof versus Basement A/C Units.

roof air means more opportunity for roof leaks, potential damage from low hanging branches and plastic deterioration from UV rays but more storage space. basement air means less storage space and a cleaner look. we've had both and prefer the basement AC. I've also owned both and prefer the basement heat pump. In our Fleetwood our roof A/C it had to be replaced and the dealer spilled liquid from the A/C onto our carpet and floors removing it from the ceiling, it was a mess and he had blue plastic sheet of plastic on the floor. Also, are current coach doesn't get effected by wind drag as our Fleetwood roof air did. It effected steering when the wind was blowing (especially a sideways wind) and you lose fuel milage with roof air due to wind drag. I talked to a gentleman in AZ. with a Winnebago DP who didn't have basement air and I asked him why? He told me that Winnebago had to installed a uretha tank (hope I spelled it right) New EPA clean air rules at that time the uretha gets mixed with diesel fuel. There was no where for Winnebago basement air due to that uretha tank so they had to go with roof air. Happy Trails

IMHO your not idiot! It's what retirement does to you Lou! At times you just get too relaxed! Your doing the right thing by doing most of the work yourself (a good thing that retirement brings) sorry about what happened.

RE: LP alarm

Welcome to the Forum!
If you bought a older used RV, be aware than a smoke alarm is only good for 7 years or so. After that, the sensor fails and the alarm will start sounding for no aparent reason. Then it's time to replace it! X-2

Goodyear, Michelin or any other tire! I can't even start to tell you the tire abuse I see every time that I go camping! I'm really surprised that there is not more blow outs! It's unreal what I see and too numerous to list.

RE: Tire pressure versus tire age

Robert, I suggest trying different tire pressures and monitor it and see what works best ( handling etc.) I have Michelin Tires on my coach and my manual suggests 85 lbs. rear and 90 lbs. steer tires. This did not work for me due to at highway speeds the handling of my coach felt wishy/washy a little sideways motion. I increased the tire pressure to 100 lbs. all around, and there was a difference of night and day. That was the sweet spot for my tire pressure. I'm getting great tire wear and handling! The only negative thing that I experienced was my coach rides a little stiffer due to the increased air pressure, but I'm willing to sacrafice that.

RE: Does such a thing as a decent gasser exist?

I don't know about Thor so I won't comment! I owned a Fleetwood in the 90's and it was nothing but trouble! But, I have to admit Fleetwood's service made everything right. It got to the point were I was afraid to take it out! Traded it on a Winnebago (our 2nd Winnebago) and very few problems since. Keep in mind you can get a bad coach any brand there called lemons!
