RE: Two lane roads - Iowa to Black Hills

No problem . . . plenty of gas stations. It may be sparsely settled, but folks out here need fuel too!

RE: Two lane roads - Iowa to Black Hills

Just a further note . . . should you be in a position to overnight in O'Neill, the local campground is located in Carney Park, just off US Hwy. 281, approx 1/2 mile S. of Hwy. 20. Electric hookups are available & there is a dump station.

RE: Two lane roads - Iowa to Black Hills

I live on Hwy. 20 in O'Neill, NE, approx. 125 miles W. of Sioux City, IA. I wouldn't hesitate recommending 20 for your trip. Many of the small communities along the way, including O'Neill, have municipal campgrounds that are available at very minimal cost. Traffic is light . . . enjoy!

RE: Electric Tongue Jacks - How do I know What Diameter to Buy?

I've always wondered why there are so many refurbished Ultra Fabs for sale. I've never seen that with any other brand. I'd stick with a major brand like Atwood or Barker. They seem to make 'em right the first time.

I think you won't go wrong with either a Barker or Atwood.

RE: Easy way to find TT model you want?

Along with a previous suggestion, before we bought our Jayco Designer, I contacted the Jayco factory & they were able to pinpoint a dealer within approx. 300 miles that had the particular models I wanted to see. I called the dealer, & sure enough, they had the models & we made the trip there to see them.

RE: Running portable electric heater

In cold weather I use 2 1500 watt heaters, one plugged into the trailer wiring & the other on an extension cord run through a window. That'll keep us warm in outside temps below freezing. My furnace very seldom runs, perhaps in the morning to take the chill out of the air. I have thermal windows which also helps a lot.

RE: Wheel Lugs

I would retorque considerably sooner than 50 miles after a wheel has been removed & reinstalled. And then as several mentioned, it often takes 3 or 4 checks until all lug nuts are reliably seated.

RE: kearney nebraska campgrounds

Consider Ft. Kearny St. Park which is just east of Kearney a few miles, & just a couple of miles off the interstate. Its very close to Ft. Kearny Historical Park which occupies the site of a pioneer era army post. While there, plan to vist the Great Platte River Road Archway . . . very interesting & worthwhile.

RE: Fiberglass or aluminum exterior?

If you live or travel in areas that are prone to hail, fiberglass is the choice. Season before last a hailstorm hit the campground I was at. I collected nearly $7,000 hail damage to my tow vehicle. The only damage to the trailer was several roof vent covers & caps over untility vents.

RE: "Thermo Pane Windows" -- To Buy or Not to Buy ??

My TT is nearly 10 years old & has the dual pane windows. I do have one window
where the seal has apparently failed, but the fogginess shows up only when the sun is shining directly on it. I plan to do nothing because I believe the insulating qualities are still there. I do some cold weather camping, & not having to continually mop windows wet with condensation is a real plus.

RE: dining room table in FW

I allow the kitchen table to stand free in our TT. It always stays put. The TT is a front kitchen model, & the only time I had the table tip over in transit was the time I forgot to lower the fold-down extension.

RE: Fiberglass or aluminum siding

I bought my '03 Jayco Designer new in '02 . . . zero problems with any sort of delamination. Actually, I don't recall ever seeing an RV with delam problems, altho I certainly concede there are some out there, just not as many as this thread would imply.

RE: what's the best cold weather TT non-5th. wheel around 36' ?

If you go with a regular travel trailer, thermal windows are a real plus . . . more insulating qualities & really reduces the amound of condensation on windows in cold weather.

RE: Aluminum vs fiberglass

Just my personal experience . . . I have a fiberglass '03 Jayco (purchased in '02) with zero problems. I like the looks & I live in an area where hail is a definite factor. My tow vehicle sustained $6,900 in hail damage last year. The only damage to the trailer were several vent caps & plastic domes on the roof.

RE: Anyone have thermal pane windows here..worth it?

I too camp in colder weather, & like most of the previous posters I highly recommend thermal windows. Condensation is almost zilch. It'll be a must-have option I'll have in any future RV.

RE: Mallard or Prowler Lynx

I believe both units were made by Fleetwood, which no longer produces towables. I can't imagine there'd be a big difference in quality or lack thereof, but fiberglass is generally considered an upgrade. It could make a big difference if you live in an area that's subject to hail . . . fiberglass being far more hail-resistant.

RE: Jayco TT

We bought our '03 Jayco in '02. There were a few issues during the 2 yr. warranty period, but all were satisfactorally resolved by the company & our dealer. I find the overall quality along with fit & finish to be outstanding. I'd happily buy another Jayco as long as they have a floorplan that fits my needs.
