RE: Awning Sun Screen

I don't know the brand off hand, would have to go out and look, but we bought a sunshade in Quartzsite. Its similar to the other brands, but a portion of the shade remains attached to the awning. You can buy the shade in various lengths depending on your awning length. One piece of the shade, with a zipper running the length of it slides into the awning rail and hangs down. When you want to use the shade, you attach the large portion of the shade to the part in the awning rail by zipping them together....very easy. Since some awnings are taller than others, the piece that slides into the awning rail comes in several lengths so that you can easily reach up and zip the two together. I bought a 16' shade with an 12" drop. I think you can buy up to a 24" drop. The drop piece in the awning rolls up with the awning and never needs to be removed. We have a Carefree automatic awning and you don't even know the attached portion is there. I think you may have one of these.. Shade Pro Regards, Hamshog

RE: Awning Sun Screen

This is the one we have. It's worked awesome for us so far. You can see through it and it still shades the sun and keeps the temps down.Patty O Shade How does that attach to canopy? Thanks, Markiemark I have a Patty-OShade too. They have a strip at the top which you insert into, and slide along, one of the open slots that canopy rollers have. Pretty simple and works well. Will they roll up in awning or do you have to take off each time you put awning up? Our Carefree of Colorado sun screens will roll up in our awnings, but not for travel!!! Only for wind, while at the site.. Regards, Hamshog

RE: Upgrading 30A to 50A 7kw Generator

I'm not sure what Chris means by "30amp and a 20amp", but your genset should provide 7000 watts or 30amps of 240volt power(30a x 240v = 7200watts), or (2) 30amp circuits which = 60 total amps of 120v power. An RV pedestal with the 50amp recepticle provides 12000watts (50a x 240v = 12000watts), or (2) 50amp circuits of 120v power. You cannot get 12kw out of your 7KW genset. Regards, Hamshog

RE: Thermal Pane

2 Things to look for 1. Are the windows in your new Cedar Creek crank out or sliders. All dual-pane windwos in RV that I have seen have been sliders. Hehr makes crank out dual pane windows. Several brands use them. 2 With a slider window open is the glass component thin (about 3/16 inch) or thick (about 1/2 thick)? If thick it should have a thin rubber/silicone seal between to sandwich panes of glass.

RE: 3 Season Trilogy by Dynomax

Was looking at a Trilogy by Dynomax, a Forest River product. It has a water line attached to the side of the frame, right out in the open. Noticed some other exposed plumbing in the area of the water control center. Not exactly a entry level product. Really surprised about the plumbing. Hey Luke, Being a 3 Season coach, it probably isn't enclosed underneath. Tanks, lines, ecetera are exposed.. Regards, Hamshog

RE: HOW do you do it?

Desert dwellers.., how do you enjoy camping in the heat? We just got back from a VERY SHORT weekend trip after testing the heat. Paid for two nights, stayed one. This trip wasn't suposed to be this hot! It was a rescheduled trip that got put back from the Easter weekend. Almost wish we would have gone then. All indications were mild weather but it was hotter than a pop-corns fart. When we finally decided to pack it up & go it had cooled down to 105* at about 5:00 pm. I didn't check the actual temp for the high of the day but I estimate it got upwards of 110* to 114* in the shade under the awning. Even the 15K BTU AC unit couldn't keep up with the heat load, just to much! Is this suposed to be fun? I wish I could say never again but I can't predict the weather so I'll say I hope to never do this again. Anyway, have another trip scheduled in two weeks to make it up to the little trolls, they kinda got short changed in this. I'm done with the desert though for the time being till it cools off, it's only gonna get hotter till summers end. Hey E&J, First, we don't camp. We're fulltimers and don't enjoy the heat of the desert, but we work here, so we move to the mountains where it's 20 to 30 degrees cooler during the day and still only have a 45 minute drive each way to work. You can say "never again"! You can predict the weather!!! It's done all the time!!!! Check the weather channel!!!!!!!! You can get a 10 day forecast that's pretty dern close to what it will be. Now if you have to make reservations more than a week out, you takes your chances!! Regards, Hamshog

RE: bought a house

so we are no longer fulltimers. We fulltimed for 3 years..loved every minute of traveling, but sitting still for 3-4 months in a 37 foot mh in warm weather in the winter drove us nuts. We bought a 2 bedroom 2 bath home in florida, so we can have company during the winter months. family and friends, (noncampers) have already started looking at flights..yeah! Have not sold the rig, will travel in the summer, spring fall and continue to enjoy life. As an aside to those getting ready to go on the road, the stuff we kept in peoples attics etc cause we could not bear to part with it or thought we might use if we bought a house..we we do not want it. Does not go with our southern home, and differnt lifestyle. Hey tohare, So you bought a home to sit still in for 3-4 months, instead of the MH?????? Hey, if you're happy, we're happy!!! RE: WHY TEXAN?

We have been FT for just a little over 5 yrs. We have been using mail forwarding service in Sioux Falls, SD as our 'domicile'.....DL's, Vehicle Regs., Voting, CCW, VA, address for Uncle Sam and insurance coverage for 5'vr & truck. Time to renew DL's so we thought we would look into becoming Texans. Contacted our vehicle insurance and asked for a quote....straight across coverage.....no changes other than address. WOW!........FT'vrs coverage on 5th wheel DOUBLED and coverage on truck 50% higher just for the privilege of changing address to TX. Hey OB, Everything is bigger in Texas!!!Haven't even checked on the registration costs. So tell me again......Why Texas??

RE: Sidewinder Pinbox with long box truck

I'm trying to keep the rear of the pinbox from hitting the bed rails on the pickup. (2010 Silverado 3500HD)(2003 Cardinal - extended pinbox) Does anyone here use the Sidewinder Pinbox with a long bed truck? It's either a Sidewinder or a shorter pinbox. Any downside to the Sidewinder with the long box. Any info would be appreciated. Paul.... Hey Paul, The downside isn't the Sidewinder with a long box, but whether your frame will over flex with the extended length of the Sidewinder on the extended pin box that Cardinal installed as OEM equip. You may end up bending your frame.... Better check with Cardinal before installing.. Regards, Hamshog

RE: 50amp Electric Requirements?

I am a newbie as far as fifth-wheels are concerned. I have a 37' Challenger fifth wheel that has a 50-amp electrical connection. So I am making my reservations for this summer's camping and have found a campsite that offers very expensive 50-amp sites, and much more reasonably priced 30-amp sites. My fifth-wheel has one 13,500 A/C (and wired for a second bedroom A/C) plus everything else you'd find in a trailer of such size. As I look over the trailer, it doesn't seem to have any more electrical appliances than my pop-up did (same size A/C even!) and that only had a 30-amp cord. Why this trailer needs a 50-amp connection is beyond me, but someone else here probably knows better than I. So what is the biggest electrical draw in such size trailer that I'm not thinking about? And do you think a 30-amp site would work? Thanks to all who answer! Brian Hey Brian, 30amps will work, but you'll need an adapter pigtail from 30amp line to 50amp load. Regards, Hamshog

RE: Why a cigarette lighter type plug?

I would think it's not due to no one thinking about changing it, but more that it was adapted to use as a source because it was there originally for the cigarette lighter. Still works pretty darn good... Regards, Hamshog

RE: Pulling double trailers

What makes a fifth wheel a fifth wheel? Is it the manner in which it is attached to the TV? If so, when I see a semi pulling a long trailer I'll stop calling them tractor-trailers and start calling them tractor-5ers. Hey remoandiris, Really?? Yup, the manner it's attached. Also refered to as a semi-trailer. Regards, Hamshog

RE: Pulling double trailers

A fifth wheel setup is not a trailer, it's a fifth wheel and you can attach a trailer to it and you are legal, the thing you need to consider is the length, that's where you'll be breaking the law. Hey ramlinwillie, If your talking about a 5th wheel dolly, it is a trailer used to provide a front axle for a semi trailer. If your talking about a trailer that attaches to the truck with a "fifth wheel" hitch, yes it's a trailer. If your talking about the "5th wheel hitch", no it's the part that hooks the trailer and truck together and lets them articulate to make turns. If your talking about something else, please 'splain???? Regards, Hamshog Because we're talking about campers it should be easy to understand. I'm talking about double towing, a fifth wheel is not consider a trailer and you can attach two trailers behind a fifth wheel and you would be double towing, legal in CO. Hey ramlinwillie, To say a 5th wheel coach is not a trailer is flat out wrong. Must be the thin air in Colorado.... :) Regards, Hamshog

RE: Stupid Question

If you are a working fulltimer, then you're probably closer to a Workamper than you are a fulltimer. Somehow *my* interpretation of fulltimer doesn't mean simply living on wheels in an RV park and rarely moving. But I guess you could take it that far - if it sounds better than "living in a trailer park". It's sort of like a gal I know who considers herself "not married" just because she hasn't lived with her estranged husband for 20 years. They just never bothered getting a divorce. Ah the details. We have "Workcampers" in the park. They're fulltimers too!! Somehow *my* interpretation of fulltimer doesn't mean simply someone who doesn't have a job and travels from place to place. But I guess you could take it that for - if it sounds better than "living like a gypsy". When I was working in Seattle and living on my boat on Lake Washington for a couple years, I was considered a "liveaboard". Didn't have to sail the seven seas to be one... Opinions and interpretations are great. Everyone's got their own idea of what's what. Regards, Hamshog

RE: Stupid Question

Would you consider "full-timing" when you live in your RV but still work full time at a regular job. We are hopefully going to be doing this in the next few months for about 2 1/2 years until DW retires. I just want to know what to say to the good folks out there that ask, are you full-timers. Right now we say full-time workers and part-time RV'ers. But we still have a stick home and that will change. So I think technically we would be FULL-TIMERS.:h Hey blkdodge, Sure you're a fulltimer. Just like we are. Only 58 and can't retire yet, but living in our coach for over a year and a half now. Have an annual site in town and a summer membership in the mountains to get out of the heat in the summer. We're like many that are working fulltimers. Others like 2oldman that may be retired fulltimers. Don't have another place we call home, so we must be fulltimers..... :) Regards, Hamshog
