RE: blew something!!

If you still have AC power on the other circuits then the inverter is not the problem. It is either a GCFI that you have not located, or you may have actually fried the breaker. Switch breakers if you can. Make sure to power down everything first.

RE: Convection Oven Problems

Unless the breaker is tripping the oven is getting all the current it is asking for. I would guess the oven uses propane for the heating part and electricity for the convection (fan circulation) part. Could that be part of the problem?

RE: Fresh Water Problem

FYI. I opened the freshwater drain because of below freezing forecast. One hour later it was still draining. At the same time I opened both lowpoint drains and opened faucets inside to break the vacuum. I guess I will add more later as time and the weather permits.
It is starting to sound like a trip to the fixit shop.

RE: stolen Hitch

Thieves are usually smarter and more determined than we give them credit for. All we can really do is slow them down which will "usually" discourage most professionals. Amateurs are different in they don't care if they destroy the object in the process.
Having said that, I padlock the locking arm on my fifth wheel hitch and remove the fuse from the 12 volt feed to the front jacks when I am not using them. I'm just trying to stop the "Hey Dudes, Watch this..." idiots.

RE: Its official

Welcome to 5th-wheeling. Look at sites that handle consignment sales to get a feel for used prices. The used prices also let you know how much depreciation to expect if you buy a new one. Bottom line is have fun and don't spend too much time looking backwards. You are going to be too busy in the present to waste time on the past.

RE: Fresh Water Problem

There is no gravity fill inlet on my 5th wheel. The only inlet is the city water inlet which probably has a check valve which the bilge puimp we were using may not be able to trip. I will know more when I can get outside and do some testing. Time and weather have conspired to limit my efforts.
I will post any findings here in the hopes of adding to the general base of knowlege here.
Alid - My hunting partner owns the aforementioned Prowler which has a gravity fill inlet (no problem there). He attempted to top up my freshwater tank while I was away doing honeydo projects. He tried various valve settings with no success and gave up. We had a lot of things on our plate planting 1500 trees and stuff plus some general tractor cleanup work. I was really unable to dedicate time to the water problem when I returned. But I am pretty sure we tried all valve positions with no success.
Pipeman - The Air compressor is a good trick. I may use that since I carry a compressor capable of 150 PSI. Putting positive pressure on the 60 gal barrel may overcome the check valve and let me fill the tank. I could adapt a deer feeder tripod and raise the tank about 10 feet in the air, but that's not much pressure gain. We are open to suggestions since we are both new to trying to adapt "city" trailers to the "backwoods". We only recently got electricity there and are in the process of setting up a septic system. We don't have a prayer of getting city water since we are about 1/2 mile from the nearest dirt road and all dwellings in the area (very sparse) are on wells or trucked in water.
Thanks to everyone so far. I have a lot of things to try. Hopefully one of them will work.

RE: Fresh Water Problem

Thanks for the reply. The overflow vent worked fine when I filled the tank. I am pretty sure there is water in the tank is water in the tank since I checked with the drain valve a little bit. The trailer is back home and I will try to see how much water is remaining in the tank when it is not raining and cold like it is right now. The trailer has a sealed bottom and I cannot see the tank or the plumbing. I dumped on the way home and hooked up to city water at the dump to flush out the black tank. Pressure came up fine and dandy. I opened the fill valve and could hear water going into the freshwater tank. I didn't add much cause I wanted to observe how much was actually reamining later.
All suggestions will be appreciated.
Yep fill is from citywater side, the fill valve is supposed to be closed when on city pressure and you want to keep your tank empty. You open the valve until water comes out the overflow then shut the valve. My hunting partners Puma has two fills. one for tank and one for citywater hookup. Mine has only one inlet. It worked before...but only on city pressure. This was the first try to refill on site.

Fresh Water Problem

Recently while dry camping I needed to add water to the freshwater tank. We topped up an older (2003) puma with a 60 gall barrel and a bilge pump. When we tried to add water to mine (2008) the water pressure from the pump was apparently not enough to push in the water. Also after giving up, My onboard water pump ran all the time without building up water pressure. My freshwater tank still showed 1/2 full. I turned off the pump after about 60 seconds in fear of burning up the pump. Tried a few more times with same result.
What heppened?? Did the pump lose it's prime (a lot of gurgling was heard during the attempt)?? How much pressure does it take to get the water in?? Help. I definitely feel like a lost newbie.
We thought about elevating the barrel to generate pressure, but 100 feet gets 41 psi and that's way too far up in the air for a couple of rednecks out in the woods.

RE: Commercial License Required to Tow 13,500 lb fifth wheel?

All in all, this sounds like another good reason to avoid California. Having to get commercial tags for all pick-ups, take a special test for towing a trailer, etc. sounds like just a reason for them to stick thier hand a little deeper into your wallet. If the test is that easy, then it adds no safety or security to the drivers.

RE: Charging batteries

Another vote for a charge wizard. Disconnect and monthly maintenance is best but sometimes you get busy and forget. Even disconnected you need to reconnect and cycle a bit to prevent stratification. Especially if you get real low temps you need to store inside if disconnected. The charge wizard (or equivalent) will periodically (once a week or so) wake up and cycle.

RE: Merry Christmas

Stay in the park until roads improve. We Texans talk a lot, but we don't know how to drive in snow and NOBODY knows how to drive on ice. If you get on the road, a lot of things can happen and only one of them is good.
Watch TV for the traffic show of idiots committing Truckicide and playing carhockey. Trading paint can be fun if you have lots of insurance and you really don't like your ride.
Have a very Merry Christmas.

RE: Any problems with length and height??

The video you probably saw was some fool at a bank drivethru ATM. Most gas stations built in the las 20 years have plenty of clearance. Just pay attention and stay away from banks.
Oh yeah, watch out for older campgrounds and state parks. don't forget to look up as well as back.

RE: New Visa Card trick

Just my observation, but recently I have had a cluster of mail from any card I ever had claiming they were "modifying" the business model.
Chase says they are moving to an adjustable rate instead of fixed rate. At 12 percent over the prime rate it is not a very good deal.
Most of the rest are setting the interest rate at 21 to 26 percent if you ever make a late payment. Ouch! When I was young the govt made anything over 11 percent illegal. Then the cards got powerful and bought enough politicians until they got their way.
My point is they are all thrashing around looking for loopholes in the new laws. And there are bound to be some because their accountants are better than the government accountants. If they can't find one they will just have their paid for congressmen create one. So just realize that they are NOT on your side.

RE: Anybody else watch that RV Reality Show on NBC last night?

My opinion only, but I would not want to be in the same campground with any of these people.
These shows get their ratings based on the amount of "drama" and controversy. So they choose the wierdos and dysfunctionals. Then they stir in some exhibitionist ex-cheerleaders and "poof" you got a hit show.
An extra added attraction is if someone gets hurt or injured. Heck if someone blew up a trailer, they would have a monster blockbuster hit show.
It might be interesting to interview the camp hosts after they left.
