RE: Tank sensors?

Depends on the tank capacities on your rig. Depends on how many people are in the rig. Also depends on full hook ups or partial/no hook ups. You'll get to know your rig's capacity from using it and how long you can generally go before you need a dump station or to pull the handle on the black tank.
If we have water and electric but no sewer hookup, I usually fill the fresh water tank and work off of the pump. I have a clear view of my fresh water tank. When thats down, its time to dump.
With full hookups we keep the black tank closed and I pull the black water handle every 4 or 5 days.
Either way, make sure you use plenty of water through the black tank. In other words, flush frequently, cause the first time you gotta go fishing in your toilet to unclog the blockage , that definitely will get your attention. Use alot of water in the toilet.
When we have no sewer, the toilet is for emergencies and middle of the night visits. Fresh water is for the kitchen and bathroom sink. Washing dishes, hands etc.
Our sensors stopped working back in 04. (with exception of the propane)
Nothing we tried in the toilet worked to clean them. I've thought about new sensors, but don't really need them or use them.

RE: goodyear tires

I can still see the rivering a bit but its not getting worse. So far no rivering on the steer tires I rotated up.
(72000 miles)
Well, that just changed. Just drove 400 miles and was checking tires during a walk around rest stop, the front tires are beginning to show signs of minor rivering. Still good tread on the tires. Will prbly rotate them to the back.
We've got almost 74000 miles on our 2003 Monaco. Thats about 9000 a year. 2 sets of tires later. We don't sit around much and those are highway miles.
These tires are 4 years old with about 30000 miles on them. No comment about customer service. 2 sets of goodyear tires not working out.
Not gonna bad mouth any brand. Just reporting my experience. You decide.
I will try another brand next change.

RE: AT&T Elevate Hotspot Over Hughesnet?

I tried the hotspot on our Iphone 4's awhile back and it worked just liked you mentioned ryoung. I was less than impressed with that hotspot in the outlying areas. Might just stay with the Hughesnet awhile longer.

RE: AT&T Elevate Hotspot Over Hughesnet?

Bob, were you on the portable hughesnet or the automatic rooftop type?
I gotta admit, I'm not parting with the Hughesnet easily. Been using the portable for 8 years and got pretty attached to it. Easy set up. I was just trying to get away from carrying a tripod and the dish. The Hughesnet worked everywhere including Rocky Point.
With everything I read, not sure yet if I'm gonna make the switch. Hughnesnet is pretty reliable for 59.99 a month and I'm on the Net alot.
Thanks for the info .
Ryoung thanks for the input.

AT&T Elevate Hotspot Over Hughesnet?

Taking off today for a short month trip. Leaving my Hughesnet portable behind. I've been using Hughenet for 8 years and kinda got attached to it. Not great broad band speeds but fairly reliable when traveling the Oregon/Washington coastline where we couldn't get a cell phone signal half the time. Last year, we got cell phone signals almost all of the places we stay, so this year I thought I'd take the plunge with an At&T elevate and abandon the Hughesnet. Almost the same price as a Hughesnet account but the Elevate is waaaay easier and less bulky to carry than the Hughesnet. My only concern was with Hughesnet I could get internet service anywhere in the lower 48. No so sure with the Elevate Hotspot cause of the places we travel. We stay away from the big cities and hang out along the coast in smaller towns in Oregon and Washington. I'm only suspending the Hughenet account in case the Elevate hotspot doesn't work out. Looking to buy an Elevate and activate one so I don't have to get a two year commitment.
Would welcome anyones thoughts on the Elevate hotspot by sierra, sold through AT&T.
Thanks

RE: goodyear tires

Everyone will have an opinion about tires, especially Goodyear. Here's my experience. My coach came with G169 Goodyears on them made in 2002. At 4 years and 25000 miles I replaced them because was they were "rivering" badly. I put G670's H on next. At 4 years (2010) and about 50000 miles the steer tires began to river. I rotated them to the back and haven't had a problem. I can still see the rivering a bit but its not getting worse. So far no rivering on the steer tires I rotated up.
(72000 miles)
I'm due to replace two tires based on age. (and the condition of those rivered tires)
I don't know, maybe the G661 tires will be ok.
I won't be buying Goodyear tires. Gonna try something else.
Others have had good luck with them. I didn't.

RE: Thousand trails

what is 1,000 trails
http://www.1000trails.com/
Its a membership campground. Pay a fee. Yearly dues and become a member. One of many membership camp grounds. Some rv'ers like them, some don't. Take a look at the web site. It lists some info for 1000 trails.
Its been great for us.

RE: Thousand trails

If you have a reservation, you will get a spot. Not an assigned spot. You get to choose. (differs in some) Arrive just a bit before 12. sometimes times there's people checking in. sometimes not. Just pull up to the Ranger Station and check in. Fairly easy. We've been members of 1000 Trails for 10 yrs. We've been been using the 1000 Trails on the West Coast for years. We'll be taking off next week for the summer along the Oregon/Washington Coast. Some of those areas are very popular but with reservations we never have problems getting a spot. For the last 8 years, with reservations, we've always gotten a spot.
Let us know what preserve you're visiting and what you liked or didn't like about it. Since your a non member and not buying a membership, I'd be interested to hear about your experience.

RE: Spare tire

LVYLOG, whats the other end of that strap connected to?
The tire doesn't slide around?
The other end goes under the tire and it's connected to the base of the ladder where it attache's to the roof. No it does not slide around partly because of the raise air vent at the top of the rear cap.
A unmounted 22.5 weighs 100 lbs +/- depending on the size and if your roof cannot handle that then you need not walk on your roof.
For those that say you do not need a spare, I guess you have not had a large truck tire shop laugh at you when you asked if they had a tire to fit your MH. Nice to have the last laugh when you roll your spare off the roof and your on your way in less than 30 minutes.
Putting one around a roof vent in the middle of the roof is an easy solution to carrying a unmounted spare that was one of your takeoffs when you replaced your tires. This tire is only used when you cannot find a newer replacement and it make what could be a long problem into an non event.
Thanks, gotta take a look at my rv roof. Might be a good place to carry one. I've been carrying mine on the a rack on the roof of my towed for about 6 years.

RE: Planning for trip to Rocky Point

I'm not the Russ guy but was there in feb. try this one
011-52-638-383-0650
New road. As you enter the town outskirts, turn right at the road to Caborca intersection. turn left at the next stop sign. Bout 3 or 4 miles. It takes you to the traffic circle by the pemex station just outside Sandy Beach Resorts. No more driving through town.

RE: Progressive EMS problem question

I would call Progressive . This company has been excellent. I too have an EMS system on board. A circuit board went bad. They sent me a new one. Free of charge. My system is 7 years old. I had a problem, They walked me through it over the phone. Excellent service and very patient. They are one of the few rv product related companys that actually stands behind their product. I ran in to them at the Quartzsite RV Show. Im bettin they can can up with a solution for your problem.

RE: Leaving Puerto Penasco/ Lukeville

Hi Galvanizd -
Please provide more details about the new road. How does it route from the Pemex station?
Thanks!
As you come out of the Reef Rv park and start driving towards town, you would normally take a right turn and continue on towards town, in the direction of the Playa Bonita rv park. Well, instead of the right turn, you continue on and you head out to that Pemex Station in the Traffic Circle. The one thats all by itself. Normally you would exit to the right and go towards town, ultimately turning left on Benito Juarez st and heading North back to the border.
The new road; From the circle where the Pemex station is, take the 2nd right and take that new road out of the circle. Continue on for a couple of miles (nice road by the way) and take your first right. Its clearly marked and head back towards Benito Juarez road and take a left when you reach the intersection and head North to the border.
As you are arriving to Puerto Penasco from the North, you normally pass the intersection
that indicates the road to Caborca. Thats where that new road comes out.
I used this road for the first time last week. No more having to drive through town with your rv.

Leaving Puerto Penasco/ Lukeville

For those wondering what the current Northbound experience was like;
Left the Reef, rv park last Thursday. Drove the new stretch of road from the beach area that precludes you from having to drive through town. From the circle outside Sandy Beach resorts, near Pemex Station. Very nice.
Easy trip to Sonoyta. Easy fueling stop. Fuel about $3.00 a gallon. U.S. Border stop. No waiting. Border patrol checked Passports and was very polite. One of the best experiences we've had. We've heard about the bad experiences, well this one was excellent.
Once again, we enjoyed our stay. 8 years running. Got some repair work done on the rv. Got the car painted. Ate some shrimp. Did some shopping. Bought from the vendors. Renewd some old friendships. Will be back next year unless events dictate differently.

RE: Toilet Backs Up?

You might need more water. The size of your pipes could be a problem and is probably going to be an expensive fix. Use more water, flush twice if you need to. I'm guessing you have the common standard in-line water regulator sold at most rv places. It's designed to regulate the water into your coach but often time it doesn't allow enough water into your toilet to fill it properly.
Try this when hooked to "shore" water. Put water in your fresh water holding tank. Turn your water pump on and see if it makes a difference in the toilet bowl with the amount of water through the pipes when you flush. The same concept when you want better pressure in the shower, turn the pump on with water in the tank.
Alot of posts and info on "Better" water regulators on the net. Check around.
Flush out black tanks with alot of fresh water, each time you dump. Ice was a waste of time for me. Calgon rinse was ok.
In any case, use more water to flush. See if it makes a difference.
