RE: Electrical issues???

If you don't have a tester to check the voltage at the pedestal or appliances, might try hooking to a different power pedestal. Or ask the campground if they have a tester to check the pedestal.. Surge Gard would be a good future investment..

RE: Opinions and advise about the Sidewinder

Here is a good way to measure to determine what the sidewinder will do for you. Got it off of E-trailer's web site..It is the same one I used to dertermine if it would help my situation. You will need to find the silver tag on your pin box and get the model number and brand of the pin box. The lettering on my Lippert box was faded real bad but I made out enough of the tag to get the information to order the right sidewinder.(or in my case 5th Airbourne) Also you will really like the way it swings the front of the trailer away from the corner when turning because it helps you make tight corners. That sucks about Olbeast hitch. They were great to deal with. But I bet they will help with advice on correct setup. They took great care of me.. Clearance Formula for Sidewider: Use the formula below to ensure there will be enough space between your truck cab and trailer when executing a 90-degree turn. (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab B = Length of Sidewinder arm (16K = 22", 19K = 22", 19.5K = 22") C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half) For example: With the 16K arm, if the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36", 36" + 22" = 58". If your fifth wheel trailer is 102" wide, take half (51"), then plug in: 58" - 51" = 7" of clearance.

RE: Opinions and advise about the Sidewinder

I have the Husky 16K and didn't like the clearance on my shortbox Ford F-350. So I baught the slider kit for the Husky. It is a manual device. While it works, it was still possible to hit the cab going forward unless I slid the hitch back. This was a pain to me. So I baught the 5th Airbourne sidewinder. It has air ride and shock absorber to reduce all the chucking. I love all the features and never worry about hitting the cab again..Sidewinder feature is fantastic. But a auto slider is nice too..The sales desk at Ole Beast Hitch helped answer all my questions and made sure I got the right set up for my trailer. I appreciate all the input on the Sidewinder hitch but I just keep looking at it thinking to myself its a crazy contraption that's going to place unnecessary stress on the truck hitch and the trailer frame. It just looks weak too.:h If the trailer dosn't already have an extended pin box, I would not install the sidewinder with out the mfg. approval's for the added stress on the frame. If it has a extended pin box, you will be fine. The side winder is very strong and I wouldn't worry about it. If you go with the 5th Airbourne Sidewinder you will need a couple of guys to help install it because it is heavy. Using the universal wedge will work well but I have read the custom wedge for the different hitchs is even better because it will be tighter and less play.. A large hitch distributer can usually give sound advice for model of trailer and truck. As others mentioned if the trailer does not have an extended pin box, you just might want to look for a different trailer..

RE: Which hitch?

I have the Reese 16K and it is very easy to use, and sturdy as can be. Can't imagine one being easier, but there are lots of style to reduce the chucking and bouncing effect which is nice. Others with more experince will chime in soon Iam sure.

RE: Help! Newbies need some advice!

Sounds like you have a lot going on, hard to guess what the previous owner might have done. Might try and contact them and inquire if he made changes. If that dosn't work Russ Dean RV and Broadmoore Rv have always given us great service.Might give them a call for technical advice.

RE: Off tracking

Best bet is to find an open area and flag or chalk out a replica of the driveway and see if you can make the turns and most importantly get turned around. Would sure beat being stuck on the driveway and damaging the 5er.

RE: How does aero-dynamice affect towing/mileage.....?

When I drove cabover semi's our company required maximum speed of 55 mph. It is proven above that it takes 50% of the fuel to overcome wind resistance at 60 mph. and it goes up drastically the faster you go.Our trucks get 9-9.5 mpg's at 55 and as low as 7mpg at 70mph. Like others said you will have to travel a lot of miles to pay for the aerodynamic stuff. When slowing down is the best option.
