RE: Fantastic Fan

We have 2 fantastic fans. One in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. I use the kitchen one sporadically but the bedroom one is use all the time. No condensation when showering and it definitely helps keep our bedroom cooler. We close all the windows except for the one at the foot of our bed, turn on the fan and it makes for great sleeping! RE: 5th Wheel Tripod Stabalizers?

We had a bi pod for years but it didn't help. Dutch even added an extra set of arm jacks to the very rear of our Carriage. Better but not good enough for me. We are 16 year fulltimers and I didn't want to live with unwanted movement.
Installing permanently mounted stabilizers did the trick and have made the last 6 years so much more pleasant than the 1st 10. Diana

RE: Question on TPMS

Check your tires 1st thing in the morning before using your truck. This would then be your "cold" tire temperature.
Set your parameters for 15% above and 10% below that tire temp. Those are the parameters TST suggests but we have found that setting our parameters 20% above and 15% below the cold tire temps works best for us. Using these parameters we are still fully covered but don't get false alarm readings. I hope this helps. Diana
My tires hold 80 psi do I set my default to 80? It came from the factory at 72.4 psi and in a short ride, three of the tire alarms went off. They were all indicating 86 to 88 psi but temp was only 64 degrees. Please respond in elementary language, as I am not a techi!

RE: TST tire pressure monitor: is "repeater" needed?

With truck attached we're 54' long and don't need a repeater. It is not always just length. Sometimes it is interference between the truck and 5th wheel like tanks etc and sometimes it can be from GPS Cell phones, etc. I know you can buy one later if needed so why not try the system with out it 1st? We have used our TST for over 2 years and have had no interference issues. Di

RE: How does glass and breakable dishes like to travel in a 5er?

I don't really do much. The plates and glasses just sit in the in the cabinet. I do put a piece of non skid material in-between my Corning baking dishes but I'm not sure it is really necessary.
Hope your house sells quickly so you can get out here and join the rest of us. Hugs, Di
Yep, we don't really consider ourselves as "campers" we are "Mobile RV'ers" our her exploring our wonderful country and have been fulltiming for 16 years. Since we carry our "home" wherever we go, whatever you have in your home, we probably have in our Carriage. I want all my conveniences which gives me more time to have fun and explore and I definitely want my food on real plates and my libation in a glass! Diana
We hope to full time some day in our Carriage too if our house ever sells. How do you store them so they won't break or chip?

RE: any ideas for me?

You might want to check out:
Carriage--even though the company went bellyup there are still new or 1 or 2 years old that are good units. Ours has held up great for 16 years
NuWa-Hitchhiker-A popular brand.
DoubleTree-Select--Mobile--Elite Suites.
We have friends how own these brands and all seem to be pleased. Keep us posted on your decision. Diana

RE: How does glass and breakable dishes like to travel in a 5er?

We too use Corelle dishes and pans and never had a breakage. We also use good glasswear and again no breakage. We've been traveling fulltime over 15 years with no issues. I would think if you found an issue,it would be more to do with your suspension than your 5th wheel. Diana

RE: Totally off subject: Lasik Surgery

I had my left eye done about 4 year ago and am going to do my right one next year. Most people choose to have them both done at the same time but since I am an avid golfer, share the driving of our RV and do all of the night driving so I decided to do one eye at a time. I had planned on doing my right one 2 years ago but things just kept keeping me from it.
Prices do vary but didn't consider price, I wanted to go to the doctor who did Dutch's cataract surgery.
I'm glad I had it done and am looking forward to having my other one done. Diana

RE: Automatic Levelers

We added the Big Foot system on our older Carriage over 2 years ago and have had no frame twisting. We've used it raise it up to change tires and re-pack the bearings. Great system and love the automatic feature that remembers your height when we go to hook back up. Diana

RE: Stackable vs combo washers

We have the Sears Stackables. We have been using them for 15 years and have had only 1 repair which we are pleased with. Ours being older units are bigger than the Sears models offered today.
We had the room so the stackables were the way to go for us. We had friends who had the combo unit and their only complaint was the drying time. Seems it was longer than our Stackable.
I also like the stackables in case I wanted to do several loads in one day. Diana

RE: 5th wheel stabalizer jack

Some do and some don't. It really depends quite a bit on your RV. The levelers are not meant for stability but they do offer some. We have friends with Big Foot Levelers and they don't need stabilizers. We too have Big Foot Levelers and found we still needed stabilizers. We're 38' long with 3 slides and a full rear wall entertainment center. Diana
Do you need those with auto-levers?
Just saying..... Probably not

RE: Driving School for fivers?

I agree that unless you both feel a real need, you should be able to just expand her amount of driving. We switch drivers every 2 hours and have done so for 15 years. We do it for several reasons:
We both love to drive.
By sharing the driving we are both able to enjoy all the beautiful scenery. When you drive, you can glance but not really see!
Neither of us is tired at the end of our day, be it a short or long day.
I would be totally bored-even with all there is to see- if I had to sit in the passenger seat all day.
I would keep it to dual highways at first and have her stay in the right lane. If there is traffic behind you, she won't be bothered as they have a whole lane to get around you. After awhile,if you are both ready, you can start adding hills or maybe a small town or two. Once she gets here feet wet, you both might be surprised at how much you enjoy sharing the driving. Diana
ps. If you both feel a driving school would work better for you, go for it. Whatever gets her behind the wheel.

RE: 5th wheel stabalizer jack

For us a bi/tri pod just didn't do the job. We even added additional arm jacks at the very rear of our Carriage. It helped a bit but we didn't get any real relief until we added aftermarket permanently installed stabilizers on the front and rear of our 38' Carriage. That was over 6 years ago and took care of our interior movement completely. Diana

RE: Pin stabilizer dimplex fireplace

The king pin stabilizer didn't work for us and we have been using our aftermarket permanently attached stabilizers for over 6 years and we are very happy.
We purchased our Dimplex from an outfit in Elkhart, Indiana about 8 years ago. If I can find the name of the company, I'll let you know. We just love it and use it all the time. Diana.
Which king pin stabilizer do you suggest? Also, has anyone purchased a Dimplex fireplace, if so could you please tell me where?
Thank you all for your time and info.

RE: Quadra big foot

Yes, no matter where you are from, you must pay Michigan sales tax because the sales tax is charged on where it is installed. The only way you could avoid sales tax is to have it shipped to you and you either do the install yourself or have a local shop install it. Diana Do Quadra charge Michigan Sale tax if you are from another state. How about handle fee.

RE: Newbie: top ten must haves for new 5th wheel

For us is was as many "conveniences" as we could put into our Carriage. For the most part, we are traveling not roughing it. Which includes a roof mounted satellite dish. We are set up to boondock and that means doing without our "extras" but after a week or so, we are ready to get back to hookups and our indoor amenities. That is just for our way of travel.
A good generator to charge your batteries if you are going to boondock.
A tire pressure monitoring system
A good brake controller
While a bi or tri pod helped a bit, we were much more comfortable and stable when we installed our permanently mounted stabilizers.
Get your spouse to drive!!! How much more pleasant to arrive at your evenings destination not tired. We switch drivers every 2 hours. That leaves the passenger to actually see this big beautiful country you are diving through.
Enjoy yourselves--that is what you are supposed to be doing
And I agree with those above who mentioned the all important "sense of humor"!!!!! That has allowed us to get through some not so ideal days on the road! Diana

RE: quietest coldest air conditioner

Too cute!! :B DRV is Doubletree RV in Indiana.
We've had the duo therm and Carrier both in our 1996 Carriage and while the Carrier is definitely more quiet, I feel it is still noisy. If anyone does come up with a quiet unit, I'll be high tailing it to the front of the line. Diana Who's DRV? I'll PM him him or her, LOL
