RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Well everyone play nice today and think of us once in a while, we have over 45 calechie trucks coming in starting about 2 hours from now. Will be very busy for a couple days, but thats what we get paid the "BIG" bucks for. LOL

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Here is a quick video that shows some of the steps to fracking. Fracking I found it of interest. Hope some of you do. Thank you that was really neat, I had talked to the company man about the drilling and fracking but the video showed what goes on....thanks.

RE: Funeral Edict?

If for no other reason but respect for the person that has pastaway you should stop. I sure would have. I have never been in such a hurry I did not stop for a funeral. The person in that casket does not have to be a war hero....I'm sure they are a hero in someones eyes.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

CC Forbes rework crew is in. Say they will be done by Tuesday. The crew leader just stopped by and said they were catering a rib eye steak lunch tomorrow so we need to hold off on eating they are sending us a couple platters. Last week they catered a porkchop dinner. There goes my diet again.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Wow...last 2 nights very busy. No action from our location but have water trucks running all night taking water to another location, don't quite seem fair if our location is not running all night for another location to keep us up. All part of the gate guard life, at least most of the time we get to sleep all night.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Well we came through the nite. We never got a drop of rain after about 5 yesterday afternoon. We did see a lot of ominous clouds and a lot of lightening all around us but we got nothing more. Our road out is a mess.

RE: Flat tire

I had a flat, called Good Sam, They had a guy come over 66 miles to no-where with a NEW tire and changed the tire right there. The only thing I paid was for the tire. Service call, labor was all taken care of by Good Sam RSA. In the past 6 years I have had to call Good Sam's on several cases and have never been un happy. Two years ago on my way to Indiana from Arizona I had to be hauled on a flat bed on 4 different occasions. GSRS never balked was always there and even called to make sure the service man arrived when he said he would. My Beaver loves GSRS. My GSRS card is as important as my American Express....I never Leave Home without it!

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Our 3 1/2 mile mud bog is back and we are getting rain (don't need any more) Tilden was getting hit hard. One of the workers came in said they were getting 3" to 4" hail close to Tilden. Lots of standing water but dry around the pad we are on. Storm seems to be passing east of us so far. On another note I talked to the ranch owner on Monday...he was not aware that Swift was closing the gate on Thursday. Well after a call from him they are not closing the gate...looks like we will stay put till we leave the end of June.

RE: Hoover Dam

Yes sir...there is a really nice COE just north of the dam close to Bolder City, Nv. There is also a RV Park right next to it. We have stayed at the COE park several times. No hookups but a dump station and fresh water there.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

I am supplementing my income with GGing and not sure that this would be another wise decision to catch and sell!!! I have seen the program on TX Rattlesnake roundup or hunting and one segment was on a friend of mines ranch near Brackettville. I just want to make a hat band and maybe a guitar strap...Not sure how to cure them though. Anyone with know how? A mexican guy Gate Guarding on the next lane made mine. Said he skinned the snake, scraped the hide and salted and let set in the sun to dry. He done a very good job and I am sure if you could get over here one day he would show or tell you how, maybe even do it for you.http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/smithster_photos/Hat.jpg height=350 width=550

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

I stand corrected that one is not a rattler. The other one however is. I just read what I put down, sorry didn't mean both were rattlers. Also seen a indigo but didn't get a picture of him. This morning was very productive. I saw two more rattlers, didn't kill them just let them go their own way. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/smithster_photos/DSC_0010-1.jpg height=350 width=550http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/smithster_photos/DSC_0055.jpg height=350 width=550 The one on top is not a rattler. It's kinda hard to tell from the pic, but it looks to be a bull snake.

RE: Information Discussion for Gate Guards

Repreive..... The company man called Huston and told them we were very busy here and they needed a gate guard on duty. I called Roger this morning and asked him what was up, we were almost done packing when the company man stopped us.Roger said he would call us back. We will be staying on this gate till next Thursday, then Swift is closing it. Question from the company man was why....Pipeline crew is in here, Starting next week on a new pad for #77#8 wells, the drilling rig will be back in about two weeks. Well looks like we will be moving next Thursday.

Guess we will get all packed up and ready....then have to unpack if we stay. Does anybody

RE: THANK YOU & ?

Bob We have not camphost at a campground but my wife and I have volunteered at several Nat't pParks and Historical sites. The compensation is the good feeling of giving something to help this wonderful Nat'l Park system, meeting a host of new people and making friends. I would say the RV community has more wonderful people than any other group around. Everyone trying to help and just be nice. Wouldn't it be a beautiful world if everyone would just smile and say hi.

RE: How did you start fulltiming?

We had never camped or Rv'd. In 2005 I realized I would be 62 soon. I was working 10-12 hours a day, 7 days a week and decided I didn't have to do this anymore. I went into the office told them in January I was retiring, we went and bought a Beaver Diesel Pusher and took our first ever RV Trip to South Dakota. We Liked It.We have 6 grandchildren that was starting to get homes of there own....moving out, getting married and so on. We told them to come down and take what they wanted we would have a sale on everything else. Guess What....nothing left to sell but the house, put it on the market and in less than two months we were closing and moving in the Beaver. Jan 1, 2006 we left Indiana and havn't looked back. Oh we go back in August every year to visit with family and get doctors taken care of, but other than that we're on the road "LOVIN IT!" We ahve been all over Alaska to the center of Mexico....went to Tequila, Mx and visited Jose Quervo.
