RE: Dreaded San Jose, CA Trip

I don't know any other places up there but I can tell you about some of the most beautiful places in any of the 50 US states and the're in California.
Certainly agree with your statement. While I wouldn't want to live there for many reasons, one being the cost of property compared to what I'm used to here in Michigan, I certainly enjoy our visits which are frequent due to my daughter living there the past 15 years. Even San Jose has some beautiful areas but my favorite is the Monterey Peninsula which is an hour from SJ.

RE: Dreaded San Jose, CA Trip

Coyote Valley RV Resort is fairly new and a beautiful park. We stayed a month last year while visiting a daughter and her family in SJ. A little pricey for daily and weekly rates, but the monthly rate is very reasonable. I have researched a lot of parks in that area and nothing compares IMO.

RE: National Park Passport - FYI

I have seen visitors at National Parks or Monuments that strictly stop in to get their book stamped. Never understood that mentality !! Personally, I don't have the passport even though we've visited well over 150 parks/monuments....I have pictures to remind me.

RE: King size bed?

Bought a new coach for exactly the same reasons. Our gas 37' Newmar has a stacked washer and dryer and a full king bed, wouldn't be without either. Lots of coaches offer them especially mid 30' and up.

RE: Ford Escape Report

mlh - I would not consider this the last word on this issue. It appears this individual only read the original 2012 manual and based their answer on that language. Ford Customer Service people are not technically oriented and I'm not even sure they are Ford employees. My original suggestion to take this up with the dealer, who can contact people at Ford who know, still stands. In the end, it is the dealer who will be the one making anything right. Good Luck and keep us informed.

RE: Ford Escape Report

mlh - You pretty well nailed my thoughts in your last paragraph but I don't think a couple of your scenarios are likely......primarily the ones involving a buy-back from Ford or the dealer and I agree the dolly would be a poor choice. Since some on the forums have stated Ford paid for a Remco pump installation, that is a viable option for you as you have precedent set in your favor. In those cases, however, I believe the posters had a transmission fail prior to the pump install.
If I were you, I would try to get some sort of agreement in writing from your dealer stating you will be covered in case of transmission failure or get them to install the pump. Guess I'm lucky to have a 2010 model which is still covered on warranty to this point. :)

RE: Ford Escape Report

Let's hope you get a meaningful response from Ford. When I contacted them for information on a TSB relating to towing procedures, the response I got was "check with your dealer". This whole transmission issue may be bigger than I thought if Ford is now flipping 180 degrees on towability of the 2012 model. Like I stated before, it is ridiculous to me to say the 2012 won't tow but earlier models (2009-2011) are ok.......they are the SAME tranny. By the way, the Remco site still shows(as of today)the 2012 towable as is.

RE: Ford Escape Report

If you dig a little further you will see the document is actually a supplement to the 2012 Owner's Manual. If I had a 2012 model, I would definitely check with my dealer as to the ramifications of any warranty claim. I would also ask them to buy me a Remco pump or a dolly if I bought the 2012 model with the intent of towing based on what the original manual said. The whole thing is a little ridiculous in my view as, to this point, they haven't revised earlier model year manuals which have the same drive train. Good Luck!

RE: Ford Escape Report

mlh - Glad to hear some positive comments on towing an Escape. Have towed mine for a couple years with no problems. Was sure your post would bring out the naysayers and it has but I'm sure there are many of us with positive experiences....like you said, you only hear the bad.

RE: internet while on the road

We use a Verizon air card I bought on eBay for $25 and subscribe to their pay-as-you-go plans, either daily, weekly, or monthly depending on length of the trip.

The $10 fee is for entry to the park only. There is an additional camping fee ranging from $10-$27/day depending on the type of site you select.

RE: Propane on or off

I always turn off my refrigerator when fueling as I don't ever want to be a statistic even if the fire hazard is low. Actually, I've had more dangerous experiences at the pump.....one time at a Flying J without an RV island, while pumping gas into the coach I had at the time, I looked over and a guy at the pump opposite me not 5' from where I stood lit up a cigarette while he pumped his gas. Almost had a heart attack. When I asked him to put it out, he looked at me like I was nuts. You can't fix stupid!

Have stayed at Savannah Oaks RV Resort which is about 8 miles from downtown area. Older CG but full hook-ups and fairly well maintained.

RE: Ruby Falls, near Helen Georgia

Visited Ruby Falls in Jan. 2010....there are some short narrow passages to get to the falls but generally nothing really close in on you. I'm not particularly fond of caves myself but this one did not bother me.

RE: Just purchased 2012 Ford Escape to Tow 4 down

Per the Motorhome Magazine 2012 Towing Guide, the 2012 Ford Focus is towable 4-down with either the manual or auto tranny.

RE: Just purchased 2012 Ford Escape to Tow 4 down

Ford is aware of problem but is standing behind problems but they are now recommending a Remco type fluid pump.
Please provide the source of your information that Ford is "recommending the Remco pump". Even Remco's web site states the Escape is towable with no modification. I am aware thru this and other forums, that Ford supposedly has given some individuals a Remco pump when their tranny burned up but I doubt that Ford is recommending it at this time, otherwise they wouldn't advertise it as towable.

RE: Just purchased 2012 Ford Escape to Tow 4 down

PegVanMe - Some have had issues with their transmission while towing their Escapes and, based on a Ford Escape forum I'm on, there are those that have had problems without towing. There are also a lot of people towing and driving the Escape every day without problems since it is one of the most popular vehicles sold today. I have towed my 2010 model since I got it without issue but have been meticulous as to the level of the transmission fluid and other towing procedures outlined in the owner's guide. Good luck with your new Escape, only time will tell.
