RE: Motorhome Insurance Through Hartford (AARP)

I have had Hartford for 5 years...one claim, busted windshields, and it was handled in a great manner...My RV is a rider on the car/truck policy and is administered by another insurance co in Texas...think they "farm" out the RV part in Texas...have had good luck with them..and they were cheaper that AAA

RE: Roof versus Basement A/C Units.

we have an 03 Weenie with the basement air...in a few words, my next RV will have the roof units...ours is noisy..does not cool as well as the one I had with the roof air...I have owned both,,,I would take the roof units over the basement anytime..I now carry a portable ac to assist the basement unit...

RE: What's your rig(+toad) and what's your MPG?

lucky to get 6mpg with a 33 ft Winnebago, towing a 10 Ford Escape on a dolly..appr 21000 total weight...wish it was better--but i look at it this way...the Ford Escape is getting 1000 MPG whilst it is being towed :B

RE: Motorhome Insurance Through Hartford (AARP)

I had Hartford for 5 yrs...one claim..I had the windshields broken by a flying rock...no problems at all..they had a company send a windshield to the installer of my choice and he came out to the house and installed them...no troubles at all..they were the cheapest and best coverage...I switch from AAA to Hartford and saved ....I think they are a good company to deal with... p.s. just received my yearly renewal..same price as last year...I am a happy camper

RE: Winnebago Adventurer

I have an 03 with the Chevy and Allison combo..its been a good unit...62k miles and counting (knock on wood)--good travels, as far as gas mileage...the Chevy gets about 6 mpg and the 98 Ford got about 6 mpg...I don't think the mpg will be much different...good luck

external radio on RV

Had a problem for the past few years...on occasions the external stero system, the radio would come on by itself...why, don't know, but it had run the batteries down a couple of times..guess it would happen when we drove the RV..finally removed the radio and removed the 10 amp fuse on the back of the radio..that cured the problem...but could never figure why the thing did this..it is a factory installed Jensen radio/cd player in the compartment outside..I am going to fix it, think i will put a external switch on the radio..any suggestions would be appreciated.good travels to you and yours

RE: ros and cons of Tow Doly

Why does everyone keep saying dollys need plates? They don't. Also you can't back up with a dolly either. Any new dolly has a swivel plate which means it behaves just like 4 down. I can back my dolly without the car aboard...mine has a pin you put in the hole and it will back...

RE: ros and cons of Tow Doly

I have used both...I now am using the tow dolly, the only disadvantage that I can think of is you have to get on the knees to hook the safety chains around the towed vehicles axle....some don't like the tow dolly, but I having been using the dolly for 2 yrs and have had no problems...I used a tow bar for 30+ years, and it is true the tow bar is a little easier to hook up, but preferences is what makes the world go around...a couple more things...unhooking the tow dolly to back into a space...stowing the dolly when you get home, I put a ball on my riding lawn mower and I have no problems at home...it is a matter of preference, tow dolly or tow bar...I have had good luck with both...if you don't want to spend the $ for the base plate, tow bar, lights, and brake, then get a tow dolly with brakes...but research the toad you are going to use, ..some can be towed 4 down, and some can't be put on a dolly...confusing isn't it...research...good luck

RE: Setting up DirecTV

z-man//my dish also "nods" so bad in the wind that the signal is lost..I complained to Wingard and they sent me a repair kit...it did not solve the problem..so I can relate to the signal loss....I finally got a dish on a tri pod setup and it works great...the only problem is..securing it in these Panhandle and Oklahoma winds..good travels to you and yours

RE: Does anyone park their MH on driveway gravel and if so

mine has been parked on gravel most of its adult life...it is an 03--the shed under which I park it is 1/2 inch gravel..I used gravel in lieu of concrete..it hasn't seemed to bother the tires...why would gravel hurt tires?

RE: Haveing dealer remove and re-caulk MH

I did my 33 ft RV myself...Dicor is abut 8$ a tube here....I used 5 tubes..I haven't done the sewer vent or frig vent as yet, but I guess 2 more tubes of Dicor self leveling stuff will do it...that said, total about 65$.. I would rather do it myself, then I know it is done the right way...good luck
