RE: Insurance

My GEICO provides full replacement cost through the first 4 model years, at a good price.

RE: Maryland or Virginia

Storage lot parking can get expensive.
A less expensive alternative might be to check with the nearest military base to see if they have an RV storage lot. I know from staying there that Andrews AFB has one.
Definitely check into the PP tax rate for wherever. The PP tax on our 3 year old 5er is over $1,000 in Roanoke city.

Countertop Dishwasher Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good countertop dishwasher? Or any we should avoid? DW really wants one when we go long-term/full-time.
Thanks.

RE: Flying J

It's not uncommon to see $0.06 more for credit at major truck stops here in the east.

RE: Considering upgrading to a 5er...

When you go looking bring your digital camera. If a unit seems like it might come close to being right for you, take a picture of the brand and model decal, usually by the main door, then the exterior, including storage areas, then of the interior. If there's a "build sheet"/price sheet available, take a pic of it too. This will help you narrow the field without running back numerous times.

RE: Booked up

Finally got a site reserved at a State Park a couple of hours outside of Houston. Wow. Took me a couple of sessions surfing and rooting around to finally find one that had available sites a week away! It was an eye-opening experience as now we realize that if you wanna go trailering, you've gotta plan waaaay in advance. Some of the more popular parks are booked into December!
Either way, once the frost and cold (I use that term loosely here in Texas), we are hoping that everyone else will decide to bug in and we'll have a lot of areas to ourselves.
Anyways, how far ahead do most book your spot, or do you even do that? Do you just wing it and hope for the best? Are people reserving these sites and then cancelling at the last minute before a penalty?
Which park are you going to?

Fitted sheet. We leave both sheets on but take the comforter off when we fold it up.

RE: RV and Truck insurance

We use GEICO. TRhey paid a claim from a "china bomb" that did $2500 last winter without an issue. In 19 years they've paid 4 claims without issue, and their price has always been very comparable every time I've gotten other quotes.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

One thing to watch for if you use the extension cord while it is still on the roll, is they can over heat.
Being on a roll essentially cuts the safe current carrying capabilty of the cord in half.

Does any body use a Tom Tom?
We use a TomTom One XLT, with numerous POI files loaded, and using Tyre for preplanning detailed routes.

RE: Gps systems

You can always load a POI to almost any GPS unit. One such POI file is at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1154. There are others you can find by Googling.

RE: TPMS

TST for me too! Compact, easy to read console. Reads both pressure and temp. With the included dipole antenna attached it picks up the signals from the 38' 5er in the cab of the crew cab long bed.
I bought the older 510 system before the 507 with the replaceable battery went on sale. Given the choice, for the same $ I'd go for the 507 system.

RE: Mifi vs Wifi vs DSL

If your cell phone is an iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Windows Mobile, especially if you have an unlimited data cell plan, check out PdaNet at http://junefabrics.com/ I used it for 5 months while we were volunteering in a state park in TX, and it worked well.
If you don't have one of the above phones, or otherwise want to go the mi-fi route, check out http://www.mobile-broadband-reviews.com/. The author reviews both contract and pre-paid/pay-as-you-go providers and plans. There are less expensive ways to go than a Verizon monthly plan, especially if you only need it a few months of the year.
(I have no affiliation with PdaNet or either of the websites above, just a satisfied user.)

RE: sheets that fit

A standard king size mattress (household) is 76 x 80 inches, an RV king is 72 x 80; 4 inches narrower, same length. We replaced the plywood platform, and dumped the stock queen mattress with an 8" memory foam RV king from these folks: http://www.mattressinsider.com/. We use standard king sheets - microfiber - from J C Penney.
Keep your eyes out for a linen outlet, you can usually get factory seconds at a good price. Two years ago my DW picked up 2 sets of 1200 thread count california king sheet for the stick house for $15 each at Shippeshewana (sp?) IN.
