RE: Mother's Day sewer hose

40 years ago I got my wife a Porti Potty for Christmas. She still mentions it from time to time. 50 years ago when she was 9 months pregnant, I asked her "How come you walk like a duck". She still mentions that from time to time. Women have very long memories. P.S. Yesterday I got mixed up when I wanted to ask her if I was taking her to the doctor and said "Am I taking you to the vet?" instead. She probably won't ever forget that either.

RE: Coach Batteries

Have you checked to see if the battery disconnect switch has accidentally been pushed?

RE: Roof Top A/C

Other than keeping the coils and filters clean there isn't much you can do to them. There are two sets of coils. One is on the back of the AC and the other is behind a sheet metal plenum. This is the cooling (evaporator coil) and inside air is circulated through it. Dust and pet hair can clog it and reduce efficiency and if bad enough can cause freeze up after running a few minutes.

RE: Can't reply to one post

The percent sign was the issue. Removed it and the reply went though fine. Thanks for the help.

RE: Florida or Texas vehicle tags

Take a look at Alternative Resources in SD. They have a lot of info about SD. No state income tax No inspection No inheritance tax 3 percent tax on RV purchase - none on RV being registered if 3 percent or more paid when registered in other state. In Minnehaha county (Sioux Falls) you can be excused from jury duty on request. Probably in other counties as well. Easy to register to vote. Do have to go back for new drivers license every five years. You can renew up to a year early and can get an extension of up to a year. My plates and registration for my motor home and Honda combined was $264 this year.

Can't reply to one post

For some reason I can't reply to this post at this address http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26052583/gotomsg/26054811.cfm#26054811 I can reply to other posts just not this one. This is the second day I have had the problem with this post. Neither Quick reply or Reply to topic work. I get an error page saying: "The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

RE: Onan 4KY Carb Replacement

Clay L ONAN did away with the low oil level switch on the later specs and, since the unit doesn't burn too much oil, most technicians recommend that the switch be disconnected on the early specs. Just check it once a day when running. JimL I didn't know they have done away with it but his is a 2001. Didn't they still have the switch then?

RE: Onan 4KY Carb Replacement

One other thing to check is the oil level. Some of the oil level switches are very sensitive. That generator uses a splash oil system rather than a pump. The oil tends to foam after it heats up and some oil level switches see that as a low oil level and interrupt the ignition. The engine slows down and the oil level comes back up and the oil level switch opens activating the ignition. That happened with my last motor home and the oil had to be right at the top of the dip stick. Using 30 weight instead of 10 W 30 also made the level much less critical.

RE: Water in Refrigerator

There is a small plastic piece in the end of the drain hose. It has a small hole in the end and is designed to slow the water draining to a rate that allows it to evaporate in the small tray in the outside refrigerator compartment. They often get plugged and need to be cleaned out. Check the tray inside the refrigerator at the back and see if enough water is accumulating to overflow. If so thenthe drain hose is blocked. Either because the drain plug is blocked or the hose is blocked or kinked.

RE: Strange water problem

If you have an outside shower make sure that both valves are turned off. If they are on and the shower head is off you will get a cross feed feed that can cause weird things - like cold water coming from a hot tap.

RE: Sealent Tape, Which to Use - Putty, Butyl or PVC

Butyl putty tape is a lot different from the usual putty tape. It looks similar but is very stretchy. I have seen two types of butyl tape used on the rails. One is the light colored Butyl putty tape. The other is a much firmer (hard to stretch and very hard to pull apart) black butyl tape with an adhesive on one side. I suspect it is used because it can be stuck to the coach making the installation easier. I would definitely use stainless steel screws as recommended above by John.

RE: First Time Class A Buyer

Clay, I wanted to thank you for not only the reply back, but the link as well. Its people like yourself that makes me excited about the RV life. At 54, its great to know that there are people out there that embody a selfless spirit of helping each other make the most out of the RV lifestyle and why I'm so ready to get out there and meet people just like yourself. I've got so much to learn and so ready to do just that. I hope that at some pojnt in my travels, I meet up with you and get to thank you in person. Be blessed!! You are quite welcome! Come on out to Grand Junction CO in the summer or Bouse AZ in the winter and say howdy.

RE: route co.springs to grand junction,co

There are more grades on I70 than 50 but 70 is four lane. That's the way I go. When you get to Grand Junction you are welcome to stop by site 21 at the RVranch RV park in Clifton (abuts Grand Junction on the east) and say howdy. We are in the Winnebago Sightseer with white Honda toad.

RE: First Time Class A Buyer

Clay, Thank you for the reply. I will definitely check out the Motorhome and FMCA websites for the info you shared. My apologies for the ignorance, but what does OCCC stand for? Thank you in advance for your reply. It stands for Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity. It is a newer rating that the industry started using a few years ago (4 or 5 years ago maybe?) This is the definition of CCC HERE To get CCC from OCCC subtract the weight of the water and the people on board from the OCCC. That leaves you with the amount of cargo you can safely carry.

RE: Cable TV down Sat TV Cable

Your existing coax will be fine for satellite. If it is RG59 it will have higher loss than the desirable RG6 which has lower loss but the RG59 will work okay. There are several ways to do it. If you have a Winegard bat wing crank up antenna Winegard recommends the diagram below. Making the connections the way Winegard recommends does not require adding any coax connectors to the wallplate. Note that this assumes your front TV is connected to the coax connector on the front of the wall plate. If yours isn't, there should be a splitter in the line labeled "To second TV" that will send the signal to both the front and rear TVs (if you have two TVs). What Winegard calls a "power supply" below is the wall plate with the antenna booster switch and LED showing when the amplifier is on. If you still want to be able to use the external cable in for both cable TV and the external dish just add an A/B switch to switch the incoming coax from the sat receiver "sat input" to the sat receiver "TV input". One thing not shown in the diagram is using the RCA type connections or the better quality "component" type output or the HDMI (best) output between the sat receiver and the TV. That will yield a much better picture with no interference from any local channels. You have to select a "video in" with your TV menu instead of using channel 3 (for example). Some newer satellite receivers don't have a coax output so you may have to use HDMI or component connections. If you have a video distribution box that will have to be taken into account. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/ClayL/Winegardsathookup.jpg

RE: Dish for HD reception

$100 meters, tripods, switches, messing around aiming. Not me. After I saw how easy it was to setup the Tailgater, there is no way I would mess with all that crap. The procedure went like this. Plug cable into tailgater, and drop it on the ground aimed somewhere towards the southwest, plug cable into trailer, turn on tv, watch tv. It doesn't get any easier than that. You can't get Direct HD with the Tailgater so it won't work for the OP but it seems to be great for Dish Network.

RE: Dish for HD reception

I don't know what tripod you are using but be aware the new HD dishes require a larger support tube/pipe - 2 inch as I recall. A number of people have recommended this guy HERE as a source for tripods and other accessories for the Slimline dishes. I went with the Winegard SK3005 automatic dish and am very happy with it. I still carry the old 18 inch dish and tripod so I can have TV if trees get in the way. That will be SD only but historically I have only needed it once a year or so. I can live with SD for a night or two.

RE: First Time Class A Buyer

The Thor was reviewed in either Motorhome or the FMCA magazine within the last two months or so. In one of the reviews the OCCC was disclosed and it was way too low for a full timer. You might want to check out what it is. Most/many of us full timers find that we need at least 1500 pounds of CCC per adult. To get CCC from OCCC subtract the weight of the water and the people on board from the OCCC. That leaves you with the amount of cargo you can safely carry.

RE: How long for poop to break down?

The waste tanks are a sealed system except for the roof vents. If you have odor coming from any other place you have a problem that needs to be addressed - not chemicals. I have used only water for ten years and don't have any odor. Even after two weeks without dumping the black tank in 95 degree weather in AZ. I do have a venturi device on the roof vent that pulls air of the tank when moving or if there is a breeze when stopped.
