RE: CUMMINS C 8.3 DP- JUST TOLD I NEED A NEW HEAD/HELP?

In theory a Cummins Coach Care facility understands that they are working on oil/grease/dirt inside your home. Worth considering and even more so for a rear radiator.

RE: removing bad battery switch

Ok, yes, it was the emergency start switch that runs from my dash to the solenoid right next to the battery. Thank you, I will connect it as it was originally hooked up. Many thanks! The solenoid likey also serves as the battery isolator. Use a voltmeter and make sure the house batteries are charging while driving.

RE: Small Solar for Storage Battery Maintenance

The estimated wire run is 27' or 54' of 10ga wire for a 1.9% drop panel to battery. I suggested using a combiner box with a loop of slack wire to add a second future panel if desired. This would increase the wire drop to 3.5%. Since these are 12V panels and PWM controller I thought that would be acceptable. The initial emphasis is for storage but with the possibility of expanding in the future. So part of the evolving plan is for learning. An existing voltmeter helps in that direction. A larger initial CC is also a possibility. The storage area is in Sacramento which is very warm during the summer.

RE: more newbie questions

The 50' hose that winds up flat on a reel is an excellent solution for filling the tank as it takes very little storage space compared to a normal hose. It is not as damage proof as a regular hose so I wind it up when done.

RE: Battery Shorting and can't find problem

Mark cables with red for positive and Black for negative with colored electrical tape. Mark inside of battery box or compartment with color code. And then take pictures before you take it apart.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

My RV charged just fine in my garage on a GFI outlet until I replaced the converter with an inverter/charger. As soon as I plugged into my house power, the outlet tripped. My RV has a Prosine 2.0 inverter/charger, and it has an option to defeat the internal automatic neutral bond which caused the GFI outlet used to feed the RV to trip. I set the option to defeat the automatic bond and no more external GFI tripping.Sounds like a faulty installation to me. For a built in inverter the AC output neutral and hot should be isolated from the rest of the rig by a ATS and the neutral and ground for that output circuit should be bonded in the inverter. This bonding will not in any way effect the shore GFI because of the ATF isolation.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

From many posts on these boards moisture is the leading cause of a GFI triping. Typically those areas are the refer, HW, outside plugs and then sink area plugs.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

My bet is on the fridge. Unplug it and see if it still trips - if it doesn't then replace the heater in the fridge.Good suggestion and leads to something I should have suggested. The main rig breaker is off and so no power. But the fault can be on any plugged in or connected device. Following my suggestion if when removing the main panel neutral the problem no longer existed then the problem is one of the devices/plugs/connections in the rig.

RE: Ground Fault Keeps Tripping

I also turned off the Main circuit breaker in the coach and the circuit breaker still trips.I'll assume that you meant that the house GFI tripped. Few seem to realize that GFI can have a second detection system namely a ground to neutral fault detection that doesn't require any current flow to detect. So exactly what do you have between the male plug and rig main CB? Plugs, wire, connectors, ATS, power protector or? All are suspect. I'd start at the far end (with the plug out) which is the rig CB panel, remove the neutral and work backwards to find the problem.

RE: removing bad battery switch

It sounds like a battery isolator solenoid and not a battery disconnect. Does it have 2 extra small wires?

RE: Small Solar for Storage Battery Maintenance

How long will these batts be sitting?I'll ask but my guess is 10+ months/year.

RE: HELP! EMERGENCY! NEED HELP NOW!

Now on our coach 2012 Georgetown, with electric slides, there is NO manual crank, asked when we did our walk through.. bad design on their part.. I was going too suggest reshutting all the bay doors. Glad it all worked outJoe, You're out camping and the slides won't come in. What do you do? 1. Get out the credit card 2. Jump battery power directly to the motor 3. Remove the motor/gearbox whatever to get the slide in and then secure the slide in the closed postion 4. etc Not sure what you meant by manual crank. All of my slides have a manual procedure to retract. Always good to know your options. Just saying...

Small Solar for Storage Battery Maintenance

My son wants to install a small solar system to maintain the 2 12V marine batteries in storage in Sacramento with above average sun. A 100W 12V panel seems right at $130. But what controller? The Morningstar SS6L at $48 will do the job, but he would like one with a meter and the only Morningstar I see is the Duo at $146. I'm thinking a HF DVM mounted next to the controller will give him easy ability to check the battery voltage and would meet his desire for a meter. Suggestions/comments appreciated.

RE: New fridge not cold. What did I forget?

It could also be a air leak at the door seal or in the back.

RE: Sheets for king size bed

Or just use a sewing machine and shorten the oversized sheets.

RE: Sheets for king size bed

RV kings come in a variety of sizes - whatever the mfg ordered. Then you have thickness, pads, etc. There is no king standard for a RV.

RE: HELP! EMERGENCY! NEED HELP NOW!

Yes. good that the slides now work. But, but, but - OP Do you know how to manually operate the slides? That's when you can have closure on this thread.

RE: HELP! EMERGENCY! NEED HELP NOW!

OP, It would help if you established what type of slides - hydraulic or electric motor. Also doesn't the Monaco manual give information on the slides including how to manually retract them? No manual? Call Monaco with your coach number and ask them what to do and where to look. Now that the back slide is also balking the next step is to check the house battery voltage, could be low. If you don't have a DVM buy one for $10 at a local store, turn on a bunch of lights and post the battery voltage. Measure from a good clean frame ground to the positive terminal. Interlocks: On my 04 Endeavor (electric slides) there was a relay for each slide. The purpose is to use the low power switch circuit to activate a relay and provide the much higher power to the slide motors. Plus the relays were interlocked so that only one slide could be moved at a time. I'd be surprised if you have hydraulic slides. On my Endeavor the slide motors had a brake lever that could be released, manually wrench the slides colsed and then set the brake again. As I've stated many times it's best not to take possesion until you know how to manually operate the slides. I knew how on the current rig but due to an LCI design error the manual operation failed on my front hydraulic slides. With a lot of creativity my son and I got the slides in and secured. I pleaded my case with LCI about their leaking pump, etc and they replaced the entire unit with a updated design. Other than not using the slides for a few weeks it worked out well and I have no problems with LCI. BYW My hrdraulic slide are very distinct with 2 hydraulic rams and 4 hoses all visible with the slides in or out. What do you see under the slides? If it's a rack and pinon type of setup then they are not hydraulic.

RE: Out West

Tazymae, Any of this helpful? One very important item that has not been mentioned is mountain driving. In the west we're talking long steep grades and high altitudes. Not only does your equipment need to be in top shape you need to know how to drive in the mountains. Use the right lane as appropiate, brake check areas and be very sure that you know how to downshift and minimize brake usage on grades. Three friends took Teton Pass in Jackson. They all stopped in Wilson where the friendly sign said free coffee and popcorn while we repair your brakes. :B The average cost was $3000. :( In Jackson they then went and watched videos etc on how to drive in the mountains. So be prepared. Coming down Pikes Peak the brake lights on the car in front of us were constantly on. At the brake check area (yes they check the brake temps) they were told to stop and wait several hours for the brakes to cool. Two examples for your safety and consideration.
