If interested in a modified Toy Hauler, I just had a great experience with Dutchmen making a Voltage 3600 for me. I had them install grab bars in various locations throughout the RV. That was the extent of the modifications, but I get around on crutches when I'm not using my prosthetic. The lower end of my 5'ver is fairly accessible when the slides are out. But if you need a no kidding fully wheel chair accessible TH, you may have to do more research.
I am hoping with doing what you have done that I will be able to balance and get from A to B in a motorhome...if it comes to a wheelchair, then I will cross that bridge when it comes. But we felt a toy hauler might be the easiest to do the changes to...as long as one could get up the ramp in the back, have a door put in to get from the back into the actual living area, and there ya go. Whatever happens and is needed, refuse to have long time plans derailed.

Physical problems and Class A's
Has anyone had to work around a physcial/mobility problem with your Motorhome. For instance you require something to assist you in walking, or a wheelchair. Just asking as I am looking at a future that I may need something to assit me from A to B.

Thought I was going to be the first to post wine, coolers, beer, little something something for the coffee around the campfire. It is a strange thing but we don't drink at home, just around that darn campfire...lol. I think once it becomes a retirement thing that will stop or we would be half snapped the rest of our lives.

There are a lot of things on our minds, and I thank all of you for your responses and opinions. I have been reading them to Bob. The general consensus is that we will find what meets our requirements, the floorplan we like, and we will go from there...oh and the price, I may be a bit old fashion/cheap myself...lol. It is all about what we fall in love with and can afford. It is the adventure, the life style that we are looking forward to, as we retire in comfort. Thanks again

If we go Diesel I just realized I will have to think about Air brakes. Most do have them do they not? That means a licence change right? So many things to think about.

I trust that you are also going to do some of the driving. You really need to learn how to do it in case of an emergency and to give Bob a spell when traveling. Trust me when I tell you that the first time you use the exhaust brake coming down a steep grade you will be thankful that you went with a diesel. Plus the ride is so much more comfortable and the DPs are generally a little more stable on the road because of their larger mass. Diesel fuel is not a problem. We even found it out on the northern end of Nova Scotia (though it was ~ $6/gallon at the time in 2008), just always make sure you fill when you are about a 1/2 tank down and you'll never have a problem.

Yes Barb I will be doing some of the driving, it would just be plan silly of me not to have some experience under my belt incase of an emergency. Not to mention he needs some time to just sit and enjoy the view. Thanks

Don't let him weenie out on you Sally. It's fine if you do all the research & fact finding but when the facts are in, the discussions should begin, and you both need to sound off. Besides, you said "he keeps looking at diesels", so he does have an opinion.
I suggest a trip to Tampa, FL and visit Lazy Days for a few days. This is not a commercial to buy at LD, but it's a fact and you can see, sit in, and drive if you want, more motor homes in a short period of time than any place else on the planet. All their coaches are unlocked and most are hooked up. You can spend days there without having a salesman shadowing you if you like. They will even feed you two meals a day free. There is no substitute for having some time to sit & look at storage possibilities and visualize living in that space. My wife and I did this in ' 06. We have now lived full time in our coach for 5 years and remain completely happy with our choice.

Not to worry he (DH) knows how to handle me, and get what he wants...lol.
We love places that are all unlocked and will let us just stay in there until we feel comfortable, or uncomfortable....thanks

This has been very helpful, floorplan is important. It is our first step, then on to others. It is a large purchase be it new, used, gas, diesel. What we buy, is all me, fuel, floorplan, chassis, how it all works, the check sheets, the works, all me, Dh is along as my driver...and he is just fine with that. Big learning curve for me, you post it, I read it, I print it off, I research it. When people ask him what my part in all this is, he says I am his talking RV Encyclopedia sitting beside him, with my big binder...lol. The big learning experience when we drive out of the driveway with it.

Diesel or Gas, why is this a big thing for me?
My husband keeps looking at Diesel pushers, and I have no idea why but in my little head I have this fear of not being able to find Diesel as easily when I am in some major out of the way area of Canada or some place in the US. Am I being a silly woman? By the way I can take it so bring it on. I don't want to count out a good Motorhome just because I have this road block where diesel is concerned.
I/We keep seeing more and more Diesel Pushers traded in, that just adds to my worries, why so many being traded in?

We were there two years ago, checked out as much of the area as we could. I picked a park by looking at pictures on the net and map locations and we stayed at Red Bay...We found the pictures were taken back in the 1900's. We almost got stuck in our site, I am sure there were some nice sites, but we sure did not have one, I could not and would not recommend this place to anyone. The owners were nice enough, but it did not make up for the rest. So I have to say stay away from Red Bay....unless you like to rough it.

Seems to me they should be leaving the workers alone and going straight to the oil companies, and telling them to find a place for their workers. I would lay a bet they have the space and money to accomplish this. Not the workers fault, and I can understand the people who live there, saying come on, give us a break, parking lots full, backyards having a couple to make some extra money. No reason to pick on RV's.

Do you keep your RV at your home, if so you need to put the cats in there and let it be their home while it is stationary. Spending time just sitting in it with them, reading or just working around in it. When they are comfortable with that, you start the engine and let them get use to that, again spending time just being there with them. Then a little trip around the block, and back home, if you want to take the time you can get them comfortable in the RV.

Are you saying there is a sticker of some kind on it that says "Lazy Days", Could that perhaps have been put on there when it was originally purchased new if it was sold by Lazy Day Rv? Just a thought as I like the Newmar Kountry Stars and have looked at them often, don't recall anything called Lazy Days

As a woman I have found a show I had no idea was on TV...House Hunters RV, on HGTV. I love it, as they explain the new Class A's, add ons, all the goodies, as couples go through them and buy the one they like. It may be a little thing, but it has made my day...lol.

Well holy******that is some interesting information...I had no idea the Guide just listed 4 down only. As that is the only thing we want, that makes it a handy little piece of paper....of course I will always check more carefully with model and manufacturer. Do love reading this site.
