RE: Consignment of your RV

If one chooses consignment of course you will pay someone...why is that a surprise for some?
The alternative is selling yourself where cost of ads is minimal and you have control of everything...including your time to get it done.
Choice is yours.
yep, obviously you can get more if you sell it yourself outright and if the right and willing buyer happens to show up at your door. but going on consignment removes some of the hassle for oneself.
My consignment dealer actually bought the unit from me and then sold it to the buyer at the time of the deal. Then when the buyer was getting it checked out it was discovered that I had evidently not adequately drained the water heater the fall before and the tank had split on the "dealer's" motor home. They requested that I pay for the tank and being honest and upright I agreed. they did supply free labor however. :)

RE: Mama got scammed

After we negotiated it to $20 I told him to take a hike but he posted bad feedback and Paypal put me on the slow access schedule (I had to wait for 2 weeks to use my funds). They took it off after my next positive feedback so now I get my money instantly. I think they overreacted for one bad feedback but it's their system and their rules.
Dave
and this is not "tying up your account" because? and what if no body came in with positive feedback?

RE: Mama got scammed

snip but their system is streamlined, convenient, and pretty safe to use if you take the time to look at your account and not just believe the email you received.
Dave
so if you aren't careful you can get in trouble? I have heard that they can tie up much/most/all of an account once you have given them access.

RE: Mama got scammed

if you must use PayPal, I would set up a separate small account with limited funds in it for that use only. then when they lock up your funds in a dispute, it will not really affect you.

RE: Mama got scammed

This scam had nothing to do with PAYPAL and PAYPAL didn't do anything wrong. PAYPAL can suck if you are a seller and get a transaction challenged. PAYPAL has straightened up their act in the last few years after they got sued, lost and had to pay back millions to people that got screwed by PAYPAL, including me. I am not defending PAYPAL but I don't like it when someone accuses anybody or anything falsely.
I am not accusing paypaL OF ANY wrongdoing in this case. but since a lot of folks here seemed eager to use them, think some review of their record is indicated. I for one, will never use paypal.

during the first phone call, could they have gotten the impression that it was just a dead battery or were you more specific?

RE: Funeral Edict?

I'm cruising down the highway in semi-heavy traffic. I come up on a big interchange where two interstates merge and I find myself beside a long funeral procession and my lane is about to run out. I couldn't get around them. So I signaled and merged into their line so I could cross to another open lane. Well they were all seriously POed at me. My other options would have been to stop in the middle of a travel lane or pull off the highway altogether. Neither seemed like a safe idea under the circumstances. Thoughts?
If the OP felt his act was the only SAFE one, I'm with the OP. They'll be PO'd, but they'll get over it and everyone will make it home.
yep, the guy in the casket won't care.

RE: Consignment of your RV

I sold my bounder on consignment. when buyer made a lower offer I told the dealer my bottom dollar in my pocket and he lowered his commission.

RE: Tires, surge protector, oil questions

I was told by the dealer I need a surge protector...do I really?
Almost right, you need a multi function surge protector, $250-350, not the $90 thingy.
and I wouldn't be without one myself. and if you get a permanent mounted one be sure it has a bypass feature so you can still run lights, etc. when voltage is low.

RE: changing a bulb

Probably notches in the globe. Turn it slightly and pull it down, it may be tight but that's how mine work.
I'm guessing that this is the answer.

RE: Balance Between Planning the Trip and Being Flexible

Just an FYI August is Sturgis Bike week in SD. Finding cheap or even a possible spot for your RV during August 6 - 12th might be nigh on impossible.
a good "catch" and good advice. avoid rushmore, etc., at that time.

RE: Balance Between Planning the Trip and Being Flexible

make reservations at the "hot spots" so you know you have a site for the proper time frames and wing it between allowing a bit of extra time in case of issues or if you want to stay longer at some newly found location enroute. IMHO no, you don't have to do one or the other,

RE: New window in door The best !

EDWIN solves a problem I didn't know I had for the last 8 years.
it solves a non-problem that I have had for the last 20 years. you have to open the door, step out and open the window then close the screen door and the main door? logistically sort of ??? then when you want to close the window, have to open door and go outside again?

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

I think that any savvy car renter knows to fill it up a few blocks further away from the return spot. I mean the gas gauge doesn't fall to 3/4 in 3 blocks.
of course you could always return the car non-filled up and see what that costs you at the avis counter. :)

RE: Grey Tank Sizes

Somebody needs to close this thread, the whiners and name callers have arrived and this thread has gone to the dogs..............
Steve
since you obviously can't see the difference between dumping 2 gallons of soapy water on the ground and 75 gallons of soap/grease/body particles on the ground, perhaps it should stay open for educational purposes.
