RE: Michigan Body Repair

Check this place out. Schroeder's Body Shop.
They always have at least a dozen RV's in their lot. (I work next door to the place)

RE: Generator will not stay running?

I had a similar problem with my Kohler. It would lose it's voltage to the coil and would shut down. I found if I applied an external 12 volts to the coil when it was running it ran like a champ. Found a internal relay with bad connections on the contacts. Burnished the contacts and it has ran fine now for a couple of years. Of course it's an older unit.

RE: 225/70R19.5 Versus 8R19.5

I talked to my Carb guy and he said he can hold off the secondarys for a little bit longer. Should be able to do 65 before they start to cut in. And no I don't have a tach. On day though...

225/70R19.5 Versus 8R19.5

Well after all of the bally who about going to the 225/70R19.5 tires I finally put Hankooks 225/70R19.5 tires on. They ride smooth and quiet. But after putting these on last fall I am disappointed with the switch. My gas mileage is down and so is the ride, not to mention these tires are about 20-30 lbs heavier than my 8R's. It did straighten out my speedometer to the correct speed. I used to drive 55-60 mph and knew that I was going 5 mph faster. What i didn't count on was my secondary's on the 4 bbl carb. are kicking in sooner. So now I have to slow down about 5mph slower to keep that from happening. The other problem is when I turn into a place that has a raised drive the bumper hitch now drags slightly. The rear springs are new as of 2008. As far as handling there is no noticeable change in that. ( it's still lousy :-) ) I guess I am stuck with these for the next 7-10 years if we stay at status quo.
Just ranting a little.

RE: OMG PLEASE HELP!!!

I also had the same problem when I replaced my brakes I worked it out myself but spent more time than I should have for the job.
I feel confident in my ability as a DIYer but sometimes it helps to ask for the tips and tricks from those who have the experience and willing to share.
As far as taking it to the PROS there are a lot of mechanics out there I wouldn't trust to check the air in my tires however there are many real pros but finding them is not an easy task.

RE: Electrial gurus, need help with door awning, please.

What is the current draw on the motor when it is going out and then trying to retract? Are you able to read this with your VOM? It looks like a Greenlee meter so I'm thinking you can read up to 10 amps.my thought is to find out what the current & voltage is when the unit is going out. Then monitor the current & the voltage trying to pull it back in. If the current drops when the voltage drops then your most likely looking at a supply problem. If the current goes up and the voltage drops your looking at a mechanical problem.

RE: OMG PLEASE HELP!!!

I am defiantly no expert, but in the past when I've done disc's the orientation of the pads is important.

RE: Coach shuts down when turn signal given.

I had this happen a couple of years ago on my old beast. It was the ignition switch. I turned on my turn signal and the engine died. I went to start it back up while running and KABOOM. I barely touched the key and the engine fired back up with all of the unburned gas in the exhaust system. I kind of knew it was going bad because it ran warm.
gas verses diesel etc two entirely different situations and a bad Ignition switch will have "NO" effect on temperature
I thought it was about the engine shutting down when the turn signal was used? Just a thought.

RE: Just when I was getting happy. It dies :(

On my "90" which is the last of the carb engines I had the switch blow out last summer that turns on the tank fuel pump. It was "T" in with the oil pressure switch. I was still able to run with just the mechanical pump but I could not do the hills very well. But it still ran.

He was a great guy. I had talked to him a few times over the last year. In fact the last time I talked to him he was saying he had so many more projects that he had in mine to do. We will all miss him.

RE: 454 still getting hot now what?

Quote: Will also replace the fan clutch. Please tell me the radiator does not have to come out to change the fan clutch.
As for the electric fan on the front...I think all that bastard does is block air.
I replaced my fan clutch from underneath a few years ago. It's do-able Take your time. As far as the A/C coil and fans are concerned yes they do block some air but not enough to warrant taking them out.

RE: Future Project List for COming Year

Adding rear air bags. Have to reroute the exhaust system first. Maybe a trac bar after I see how the air bags work.

RE: 454 still getting hot now what?

Time to check the exhaust system. Sounds classic plugged cat converter or muffler.
Over heating, no power. It is a good thing that the radiator has been changed though.

RE: clutch fan?? Louid idle?

When we are going down the expressway and then slow down to get off at an exit, our clutch fan always kicks on and then after we stop it will continue to run for a minute or so till we get back up to speed again.
