RE: Battery chaarging

No. Unfortunately, the Sears brand automotive chargers I own do not have a ""reconditioning" feature. I think that by employing a heavier charge, the battery plates de-sulfate. I just don't have the capability.

Battery chaarging

I have 4 6VDC house batteries that are about 6 years old. I took my coach out of storage and found out that the batteries were flat out dead. So I have removed them and placed them on two separate chargers (Sears brand) for in excess of 36 hrs and they will not charge beyond 60%. So my question is - are they beyond help and need to be replaced? I don't think keeping them on the charger will help. Opinions? Thanks.

throttle return springs

My 8.3 Cummins mechanical diesel is now 20 years old. I am finding that on occasion the engine RPM is a little to high when going from a drive position to reverse. I have to go back to the rear and lift the bed to manually pull the throttle back to slow the engine down. With that done, the the Allison will shift. So far, it has happened twice. The Cummins dealer advises that the spring set is now obsolete and are no longer available. Any suggestions from the Forum members? Any help will be appreciated.

Engine mounted A/C compressor

Two days ago, I noticed that the belt running from the engine to the A/C compressor was missing. There were shreds of rubber pieces all around the immediate area. I went to the local Cummins dealer for a new belt only to find out that the compressor was frozen solid. It had seized apparently from lack of oil. So I am asking for member suggestions for a good service center in the Greater San Diego, California area that can change out the compressor. Opinions on price will also be appreciated.Thanks. Jim

Another anniversary with the Forum

I just checked and discovered that three days ago, I passed my eight years of continuous enrollment with this Forum. Thanks to all who responded to my concerns over these years. I am still driving my first motorhome, a '93 Pace Arrow diesel. Not using it as much now and I am hoping to change that soon. Regards to all. Jim.

RE: Keeping the old class A

I have had my first coach for some 9 years now. I routinely go to RV shows and see some fine newer used units. I keep asking the question "what are you going to do with a newer model that my current one is not already doing?" At age 70, I don't want any new debt, so I guess I will stay with what I have until it is time to hang up the keys for the last time. Jim

RE: Serpentine belt noise

I had what I thought was belt noise. It turned out to be a failing bearing in the tensioner. I had it replaced and the noise stopped. Jim.

RE: Allison problem

I had a similar problem with my Allison 3060. It turned out to be a broken throttle return spring which allowed the engine RPM to remain to high for the transmission to engage. A new spring set took care of the problem. Jim.
