RE: Slow draining Grey tank

We use Rid-X in our septic tank and after 5 years had the tank pumped as a precaution. It could have gone on many more years as there were almost no solids in the tank.

RE: GM Dingy Caution

As I said in my earlier post, I now have a 2012 Malibu with the 6 speed auto. I origianally bought a 2012 Cruze 6 speed auto. When I found the change sheet in the owners package, I called the dealer and after some time, they offered to take it back. I then bought the Malibu. The district rep assured me that it is towable 4 down.
I found out that the 6 speed auto was developed with Ford but each company has made small internal changes on certain models to make it towable.
I have not towed it yet so only time will tell how well it works.

RE: Ready Brute / Ready Brake System

No problems with mine. Simple system that has less to go wrong than the electronic/electrical systems that I have seen.

RE: GM Dingy Caution

I had purchased the Cruze and they took it back and I bought the Malibu. The owners manual says it is towable and a check with the area rep got the same assurance. I have it equipped with a Blue Ox baseplate but have not towed it yet. Anyone there that has towed one?

RE: Convection/microwave or Reg. oven?

We have had both standard and convection and after a little experimenting with the cooking times, would not want a standard LP oven again. Like the additional storage for pots and pans. We have a microwave/convection oven at home and use it more than our standard oven. Faster warm up and uses less energy.

RE: Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

Got my Malibu back from the shop today after getting the base plate and wiring installed. Also had the connections for the Ready Brake installed. Very nice, clean install. Will be taking the Malibu and motorhome out on the road for a test run early next week. Want to do this before going out on a trip in case there are any problems. Thanks for all the comments while I was getting the towability questions answered. Just a note, I received a second call yesterday from the Area Rep reassuring me that the Malibu was towable four down. I guess the first long trip will be the real test.
I would like to hear from anyone that has towed either a 2011 or 2012 Malibu and their comments on the vehicle.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

Mabry,
I received the same info finally after being told just the opposite. It seems that after many calls, customer service got in touch with engineering and got the correct information. I received info from engineering before the area rep called me. There is a gap in communications between engineering and customer service and the dealers. If the correct info had been available it would have saved me a lot of grief. I am having my base plate installed on Thursday.
I posted the correct info on the Malibu thread that I started. Link is below.

RE: Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

It seems that after consulting with the engineering department, GM has now decided that the 2011 and 2012 Malibu are towable. I received a call from thed Area Representative stating that it was.
I now plan to go ahead with the installation of the base plate and tow it. I will just be careful to follow the instructions about starting and running it on each stop to lubricate the transmission.
Here is hoping that this information is correct and that I do not have any problems.

RE: Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

I have received a call directly from a GM Customer Service Supervison informing me that the 2011 and 2012 Malibu and Cruze are NOT towable 4 down. They are now working to find a solution for me.

RE: Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

Executive,
I would but the cost is a factor, fuel mileage and they are heavier. I got rid of a very good Dodge Durango for those reasons (fuel mileage and weight). It did tow well and if I had known what I was getting in to I would still have it.

RE: Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

NavyChaps,
The transmission that is giving them the problem is the one that was co-developed by GM and Ford and is the one that is giving Ford so many problems in the Escape. Some owners have had multiple replacements. I looked into an Escape before I started looking at the Cruze but did not know about the common transmission till much later.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

I just started a new topic about the Malibu. After reading it in the owner's manual and being assured by the dealer service department and GM's area representative that the Malibu was flat towable, I purchased a Malibu. After finally getting through to a GM Customer Service Supervisor, I find that it is not. Waiting for a phone call to tell me what the resolution to this situation will be.

Malibu With 6 Speed NOT Towable 4 Down UPDATE 9-9-11

After buying a Chev Cruze and then finding out that the Chev Cruze was not towable 4 down I was assured by the dealer that the 2012 Malibu was towabe 4 down. I also read it in the owner's manual. I traded for the Malibu.
Through this forum I got information that made me believe that they were wrong. I kept looking for a definite answer and called GM Customer Service. The first two people that I talked to did not have a clue what I was talking about. I finally got through to a Supervisor and she started digging into the matter. Now, just as we were preparing to install the base plate, I find that the Malibu with the 6 speed automatic transmission is not dingy towable. I am waiting now on a call from GM to tell me how they or the dealer will handle the situation. That call is supposed to come tomorrow according to the GM Customer Service supervisor.
I now know that even though the Owner's Manual says that the vehicle is dingy towable, it may not be. How do we determine which vehicles are flat towable and which are not if we cannot depend on the car manufacturer's Owner's Manual? In the case of the Cruze and the Malibu both manuals said that it was flat towable. I am truly dissapointed in GM.
UPDATE: As noted in a later post, I am now assured by GM Area Rep that the Malibu 2011 and 2012 with the 6 speed automatic are towable. There was a lot of confusion at GM about the subject. Bad communication between engineering and sales.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

JANETRUPP,
Have you found out that the transmission in the 2011 and 2012 Malibu is the same as the one in the Cruze? I have been trying to get someone at GM to tell me one way or the other. So far no luck.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

Has anyone heard of problems with either the 2011 or 2012 Malibu? I am checking now to see if the two have the same transmission. First indication is that they are the same. If so, the problem will exist in the Malibu also. That is the car that they assured me was towable when I found that the Cruze was not and returned the car the same day that I bought it. Now I am wondering if the Malibu will not be acceptable also.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

Wolfe10,
I do not have a reference to the Supplement as it was in the delivery package that I got with the Cruze and I had to return it to the dealer when I got the Malibu. I should have made a copy but did not. It was Supplement 2 to the Owner's Manual.
On Edit: Brett, look at NormPayne's post on this thread. He may also provide a source.

RE: 2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

Fire Up,
So far so good on the Malibu. I was not crazy about the interiors either but the grey that we got is not too bad. Plan to change the seats to leather in the near future. Did the same thing on my wife's 2008 Camry Hybrid and it came out very well. I will use the same shop to do this one.
I bought the four cylinder. It is a bit short on power but sufficient for me and I wanted something that would get relatively good fuel mileage.
As far as to who would be responsible had I taken the Cruze and burned a transmission, I am not sure. I imagine that I would have had a fight on my hands to get it repaired by either the dealer or GM.

2012 Chevy Cruze Not Towable 4 Down

Last week I purchased a 2012 Chevy Cruze. Dealer and owner's manual said that it was towable 4 down. After purchase I was going through some papers and found a supplement sheet to the manual that said that it was not towable 4 down. I went to the dealer who called the district rep who thought it was towable. A call to GM confirmed that the Cruze for 2012 is NOT towable 4 down, no reason given.
The dealer offered to cancel the deal and give me my trade back or make me a deal on a Malibu that is towable. I took the deal on the Malibu.
I wonder how many Cruze's have been sold based on the statement in the owner's manual.
