RE: Michelins.. ouch!

I've replaced my original Michelins with Firestone Transforce. So far they are holding up nicely and cost less than the Michelins.... X2 and I have had Michelins as recently as 08. Had them pulled off after pulling the camper 1 time because they flex so much. No more for me ever from the trucks to my lawn mower. Oh and yes I can afford any tire out there.

RE: Installing the superglide 18k on Sunday.

It will probably use existing holes in the frame but you have to drill holes in your bed to match up with the mounts. Trust me, use a very small drill bit at first to make sure you are center before drilling the big ones. I have done this now on my Ford and Dodge and measurment is critical. You know the old saying " measure three times cut once"

RE: Boat Trailer Tags?

Lived in Columbia SC for 7 years and moved to Seattle. Pulled our boat all the way across this great country and no one said a word.

RE: How fast do you tow your 5'er

After we put the BF Goodrich TA's on about 70 is a good speed for the Dodge. I let the DW drive for a while coming back from Mrytle Beach while I took a nap. Woke up and she had the cruise control set on 83! :E Cummins was hummin...

RE: Has anyone had this happened to them?

Cables were installed correctly and the tailgate was closed but not locked. Hard to see how it could come off with both cables attached.

RE: what size RV garage/storage do you use ?

Its only 30 x 40 but my camper sure does like it. Heated with bathroom and 12 x 14 door and a 10 x 10 door. http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/Picture192.jpg height=600

Something different, storm shelter with pics

This past New Years we went up to Joplin for a party and spent the night. The next day before we left I thought we could ride around and look at the tornado damage even though it had been many months ago when it happened. It really opened our eyes to what can happen and how so many people lost their lives or every thing they owned. Since we live close to that area and have tornados all the time we decided it was time to get a shelter since we have no basement. We decided on a steel unit from Cozy Caverns here in Arkansas and had it installed a few weeks ago. I wanted to do a few things to it and just like our camper once I started it was hard to stop. The end result has its own power source that will run everything for 5 days, outside camera with infra red night vision, HD TV, air filters, full weather station, 1000 watt inverter, LED lighting with dimmer and enough food, water, and everything else we need to live for 5 days. I then had cushions made for the bench seats with a filler board that turn into a bed in the back. Added carpet, heat and now we have almost a spare bedroom. The whole unit runs on 12 volts so one ground fault circuit from the house was all I needed to run a 4 stage battery maintanier. One big marine deep cycle battery and it all came to life. The DW was concerned about getting to it if rain or hail was falling so of course I had to cover it. Then put a concrete slab over it, solar LED lights under the roof and did not attach it to the house so it could break away in a tornado. This has been 4 weeks of non stop work but we rest better at night knowing we have somewhere to go when it gets bad. We even had storm drills with our 2 dogs so they would get use to it and now with 2 dog beds down in it they love it. I really need to go camping now! http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/SANY0800-1.jpg height=500 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/SANY0781.jpg height=500 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/SANY0794.jpg height=500 http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l325/dcombee/SANY0765.jpg height=500

RE: Toughest trucks

Darn, now I have to figure out how to mount my SuperGlide in a Ridgeline. On the bright side I should save a lot in diesel fuel and maintenance cost. Is that what you call a win win?

RE: Dexter brakes worth it?

Are these "Dexter NEV-R-ADJUST ™ Brakes" the same brakes referred to in this thread? These are on one of my final two selections. Somewhere it points out that these are hydraulic where the other brand are electric. Are the electric ones disc brakes? The Dexters I am asking about are electric drum brakes. The Never adj are just one version. As far as I know, all disc will be hydraulic by nature,at least on trailer and vehicle applications. And thanks to all on the responses, always more to learn on this subject. Most likey will do Dexter drums this time around, since I have found a great price for them (etrailer). Save the 1500+ disc brakes for our next trailer. But they (disc) really sound great. Tom. Is anyone running the Dexter NEV-R-ADJUST brakes? I want to put a set on this spring but don't hear much about them. Seems like a good idea if they work.

Hope that trailer has good brakes on it because the tv brakes are for the tv only so I have been told on here by weight police leaders....

RE: Stupid and dangerous?

Maybe he should ride the bike and you drive the van! Without actual weights and capacities all this talk means nothing. I see trucks all the time with 500 lb bumpers, winch's and snow plows on the road. I agree it does not sound good but if done properly and all weights are in spec it may be much to do over nothing.

RE: What tires do you recommend

What size? Personally, I wouldn't use a Michelin for anything more than a swing! X2 I won't run them on my lawn mower. Had a set wear out in 20k miles years ago and got no warranty support but I decided to give them another try in 2008 on my F-250. Well after a short trip with the camper I had them pulled off because I had bad trailer sway ( with a 5th wheel ) Put on a set of Goodyear Wranglers and problem solved. No more Michelins ever. Your mileage may vary... By the way the factory BFG's on the Dodge are great while towing and have 30k miles so far with 70% even tread left.

RE: Explain limited slip differential

Limited slip, also known as posi-traction, allows both wheels to receive power depending on the condition. Under normal driving one wheel will drive and the other coast. Then if the differential detects one wheel spinning under power the clutches will engage the other wheel so both wheels recieve power. A non-limited slip is referred to as an open differential. It will only send power to one wheel regardless of conditions. I recommend alway getting a limited slip rear-end. You mean it will send power to the wheel with least traction. The limited slip in my Ford does not work all that well. My brother has a mechanical locker in his HD and that is positive traction in my book.

RE: WIll your GPS become unusable in the Future?

Funny that most who don't like GPS say it took them the wrong way. Well guess what, that is software and has nothing to do with the GPS system. Ever since the government turned off SA years ago GPS signals are dead on. I have marked many spots on land and water by GPS and can go back to that spot within about two feet years later. The system was not designed to get you to Grandma's house but for military use. Our use is just a benefit of the system.

RE: Did you get any new camping stuff for Christmas?

A TPMS from TST and not just one but two complete sets so one is for the camper and one for the boat! I must have been a good boy this year huh...
