RE: Toad Brake-a-way

I have personally had my Toad break away. Last year in fact. I did not have a braking system at that time. As I slowed to get on the approach ramp to I40, I notice the Toad suddenly shift to the left. First reaction was putting my foot on the brake. Yep, the car shot to the left and the cables yanked it into the side of the motorhome. Slight damage to both. Root cause, my in attention during the hook up. I had backed the RV up the driveway to reposition it for hook up. I backed too far up my drive, and the left rear wheels dropped off the pavement. A very slight drop, but between the incline and the pavement level, the drop receiver caught the edge of the pavement, and knocked off the little lock mechanism off the end of the hitch pin. I couldn't see that side of the pin during hook up, so I went on my merry way. Made it about 2 miles. Should have done a complete walk around - and always will from now on.

I read once that Benjamin Franklin wanted to make them the National bird instead of the Eagle! Glad that didn't work out.

RE: What's your rig(+toad) and what's your MPG?

2005 Allegro Bus 40' - 400ISL Cummins. We tow an 08' HHR. I average 8.2-8.4 depending on my speed and of course headwinds. I have not seen a difference towing or not towing, but I am not as conscience as most about my speed. If the highway is smooth I'll cruise about 68-70 mph. If it is a rough road(Hwy 40 in Arkansas!), I'll drop down to about 63-65 mph. We pretty much always run the generator for HVAC and the residential refrigerator. In fact, I couldn't tell you what difference the generator makes on mpg, because it seems to always be on. Having said all this, we have only put about 12,000 miles on this rig. Also, we are not full time yet. Most people haul a lot more stuff then we do.(Weight)

RE: 2005 Tiffin 40QDH Rear Breaker panel location

My 05 Bus has fuses in the panel by the fridge, fuses under the driver's window and fuses in the rear compartment by the inverter. As far as I know that is it! And I have been through this thing from front to back, believe me.

RE: Duotherm Comfort Control Center Thermostat

The reason I wanted seperate control is due to the fact that both units have to be on heat or cool. We sleep in a very cold room at night in the stick house or the Coach. We have occassions where we have a guest with us, during cold weather we need to run the heat for them, but would like to run the A/C in the bedroom. Also, I just went through a frustrating excercise where I believed my Thermostat had failed completely. Turned out to be a poor connection in the thermostat wire running to the CCC. But, neither unit was responding.

RE: Duotherm Comfort Control Center Thermostat

Yes, I figured it would need the seperate feed wires. Great news, I was hoping that would be the case!

Duotherm Comfort Control Center Thermostat

I have a question about these thermostats. Those of you familiar with them know that they communicate to the different appliances through a digital signal cable. My question is this - I now have two thermostats(thought I have a bad one so bought another), can I connect one thermostat to the front heat pump and furnance and hook the other to the rear heat pump and furnance and run them independtly? If so great, I have wanted to have seperate controls for some time. If not, at least I have a new spare.

RE: Norcold fire picture

Actually, Cloud_Dancer I have had some experience with RV refrigerator fires. I bought a 2005 Allegro Bus three years ago, that had suffered one of the infamous 1200 fires. I am attaching some pictures of the damage it caused.
When I bought it:

RE: Norcold fire picture

Here's my photos which indicate that whenever there's a blockage in the cooling unit that causes the temperature to rise to the level which can cause the start of a fire, but the refrigerator shuts down just short of starting a fire, that it will prevent the start of the
My apologies too. I thought you were saying the latest device had shut the unit down.

RE: Side view cameras - worth it?

There seems to be a real love/hate relationship with the side cameras. One person says they are a waste, the next one wouldn't be without them. I don't have them on my coach, but have considered installing them. They just seem like a great idea. Even for in town traffic.

RE: An alternative to the CCC thermostat?

The CCC has been out for 16 years and as a RV tech (32 years) I have NEVER heard of any such problem with the CCC system. I have worked on hundreds if not thousands of CCC AC system units over the years, and never had such a complaint or problem. Your problem may be as simple as replacing the modular connections on all the CCC communication cables due to corrosion and original bad install. You only have 2 choices for a CCC system---Repair your existing system or upgrade to the new Dometic CCC system which will require a new control board for each AC unit you have and a new style CCC wall tstat. If you are experiancing burnt out or failed wall CCC tstats, that means your control/communication cables are defective or you have a defective front AC control board. Failed wall CCC units are RARE, they fail because of an external wire problem and instead of finding and fixing the problem, some just keep replacing the wall CCC and then are upset when it fails again. Doug
Doug,
You may want to drop by theTiffin Motorhome user group and read all the issues reported on the CCC five button thermostat. People report having to turn off flourescent lights to get their thermostat to reset. They talk about sudden lock ups of the screen due to tv or radio interference. I agree it is a great system when it works, but at the cost of individual components this thing is over kill. It makes sense to me to walk to a bedroom thermostat to make temp adjustments rather than walk down the hall to the living room. I quess I just don't appreciate the one thermostat thinking. I was just asking if it was possible to add simpler thermostats for each zone?

An alternative to the CCC thermostat?

I have a 2005 Allegro Bus that uses the CCC thermostat. I hate this thing. It is very sensitive to voltage spikes and/or electric interference. Is there a better all in one or should I buy a seperate basic thermostat fro each zone? Open to any and all suggestions.

RE: Residential Fridge ----- Awesome, awesome, awesome

My frige came open twice. Seems to happen when the door has sodas and milk in it. I tried a couple of different latches. Still came open. I finally boughtoneof those kick down door stops and mounted it near the bottom oif the door. When we travel we filp it down in place. When we arrive, we flip it up and it locks in place. Works great.

RE: Anyone added Aqua Hot to Class A

I am in the process of adding a system to my 2005 allegro Bus. I kept watching Ebay and found a used unit for a very very good price. I have the unit mounted and have piped in a large heat exchanger to the front area that supplies three vents. So far, so good. I will purchase at least three smaller heat exhangers for the bath and bedroom areas. My reasons for wanting the Hydro Hot is my wife's fear of propane appliances. She wants the propane tank gone completely. I have the domestic water system connected also. We both LOVE the long hot showers. Here is a link to that topic.
