RE: Anyone Made Any Camping Plans?

We spent last weekend in Wells, Maine and will be there again next weekend. I think this year we will stay close to home. Weekends at the beach and maybe even a two week stint there. Might go to the White Mountains in the fall. Depends on work schedules.

RE: Thousand Trails Camping pass

This will be our second year with the Zone Pass. We used all 30 nights last year and plan to this year as well. No hidden costs and will most likely renew again.

RE: If you could have one car back

My yonger brother had a 72 Chevelle SS convertible, Orange with White top, stripe and leather interior. It was a beautiful car and I'd love to have one.
My favorites were two - a 1996 Mustang Cobra Convertible, red with camel top and interior and my 1999 Eldorado Touring Coupe, black with black interior.
I now have a 2006 300c and I enjoy it very much. This morining I watched the odometer hit 123,456 miles.

For your leisure reading: :)
Do some snakes chase people?
Black racers chasing people
Snake misconceptions
I read the first link and it is hilarious. Eastern states like Maine and Louisiana and Southern states like New England, South Canada and Texas.

RE: Your not going to believe this!!

On our way to Florida we took the PA pike and cut across 25 (I think) to 95. On the way to Florida on 25 we got 14 MPG.
On the way home through the same stretch we got about 4.5 MPG.
Averaged over the entire 2600 mile round trip we got about 8 MPG.

RE: Lease a new car???

The single most important factor in a lease is the residual value at lease end. This is a figure stated at inception and, so long as the car is not over-mileage and does not have more than normal wear and tear, is value you and the dealer agree the vehicle will be worth at lease end.
I have leased 5 new cars. You are paying the depreciation and the taxes due, plus interest. The BEST deal is if you can afford to pre-pay the lease because then you do not pay any interest.
Rolling into a new car every two years sounds nice - but consider that you will always have high insurance premiums (always paying for a new car), equipment/use or excise taxes (if they apply), and you pay sales tax based on the selling price of the car (built into the lease). If you decide to buy the car at lease end, you sales tax again for the value of the sale - the leasing company paid the sales tax the first time around and built it into the monthly payment.
Cars that hold their value well are a good deal. Merceses and Lexus are two examples. A Yugo would have been a bad deal. The CRV will most likely be a decent deal if you are not going to load miles onto it. Just make sure the fees are all in the payment or have been disclosed.

RE: side aisle motor homes

We have an Itasca 36M with the side aisle and two slides. The private bathroom was the determinant factor in the decision to buy this unit.

RE: Locked In... Be honest

A campground surrounded by a fence with razor-wire over the top and a locked gate seems like it might not be in an area where I want to be.
There are effective ways to stop a party at a site. First is to post a guard who takes the ID of every person, $5.00 fee and registration information for every car, and two non-refundable dollars for every guest that comes through the gate after 9:00 PM if they are not the registered guest for the site.

RE: Niagara Falls camping

We really like the KOA on Lundy's Lance. Couple of pools, hot tubs and right on the bus route.
+1. Nice park, have stayed there several times.
Our choice, too. Good as a KOA goes. Great as location goes.

RE: Thousand Trails

Our friends have a membership that was originally ODW and we have camped in several of the campgrounds with them (our motorhome / their membership). Now we have purchased a Zone membership for the third year. We used 25 days the first year and all 30 last year. Moody Beach in Maine is great and we are there on and off all summer. Their campground on Cape Cod is a good one, too.
We've stayed in and around Hershey, Busch Gardens (VA), Six Flags (NJ) and Maine at ODW campgrounds. All were just fine.

RE: FT. Wilderness

We've stayed several times. The preferred sites are closer to the loop bus stops and marina (water taxi to the Magic Kingdom). Great place to stay and once you are there, all you use is Disney transportation.

RE: Montana LLC

In Massachusetts, you can have an RV registered to a foreign LLC, but if it is garaged here you are subject to excise taxes. You are not subject to sales taxes.
The excise tax is 2 1/2 percent of the wholesale value of the unit. It is a local tax and if you have a registered vehicle of any type registered anywhere that is principally garaged in your yard, you owe the local government the excise tax.
You declare where the vehicle is garaged on your insurance. Your rates are determined by where the vehicle is garaged. If you lie about the garage location you give the insurance company an out if your rig is stolen from your yard but you claimed it was garaged in Montana.
The LLC only exempts you from sales tax, registration fees and vehicle inspections.

RE: Ringtone halts NY Philharmonic performance

"You have a patient waiting for a heart, there is (unbeknowst to you) an accident that kills a compatible downer just as the conductor starts the concert."
"a compatible DOWNER"??
I don't think I would want a donated organ from a "downer".
However, if you are expecting a child or a parent to die, or you are an on-call surgeon, SILENCE THE PHONE!
Anybody else, turn it off. The world will be just fine without you for a couple of hours. No matter what you or your caller might think, chances are you just are not all that important! You can turn it on and check for voice-mails at intermission.
I agree with silence the phone, but who is anyone to tell me I have to turn it off? My job requires 24/7 availability and I am paid very well for that. Also, as an elected public official who is the spokesperson for my committee there are times when an emergency requires attention - and I rely on email or text for those notifications- both of which I can silently view from my Droid phone.

RE: Broncos !!!

Big Ben looked about the same as always to me. I don't think he was hurt enough for it to make a difference. He made a couple of scrambles and had no noticable limp or effect after the plays.
Why can't some people just admit that Denver simply outplayed Pittsburgh and deserved to win? The Steeler defense did what I would have coahed them to do, which was make Tebow beat you with his arm. They shut down his running attack and eveyone thought that was his only strength. He is showing that he can throw the ball, too.
No matter, the Pats will take care of it this Saturday (as long as our defense shows up!).

Tribute to Andy

He was a hard worker, but he was always smiling. He had next to nothing, but would share anything with you. Whenever you left the building, he would say with a grin "Do me a favor and have a safe trip home".
Andy, do me a favor and have a safe trip home. Godspeed my friend.
Andy was a janitor at the school in the town where I live. I spend a lot of time volunteering there and saw him at least twice a week for the past ten years. Yesterday Andy suffered a heart attack and did not survive it. The guy with the heart of gold and infectious laugh is gone. I will miss him.
